Los Angeles is home to an impressive amount of talented DJs who have been putting their hearts and souls into Drum'n'Bass for over a decade. After years without a booking agency to serve the Los Angeles Drum'n'Bass scene, Dave Bullock (aka eecue) the founder of junglescene.com, decided it was time to start one and Granular Music was born. Culling his personal relationships with the veterans of the LA scene, Dave was able to bring together the best DJs on to one roster... [read on for the roster[ (Read More... | 3 comments)
So as you may or may not have noticed. The scene is dead. At the same time the scene is thriving. The scene is an amorphous entity that changes daily and will never be the same as it was or as it will be. There are a ton of new people in the scene and there are still plenty of old heads rockin it. Just like any scene, our scene comes in waves and as I see it, 2005 will be a big year for drum'n'bass in the US, especially in LA. I think we may top 1999 for the hottest year in LA. It remains to be seen, but from the events I have heard about and/or attended this last year I have seen growth both in quality and quantity. Some things that will help our scene thrive: (Read More... | 15 comments)
Today I added some cool new functionality to junglescene.com. I created RSS feeds for all the forums and for the photo section. This will allow you to get the latest posts and photo groups and view them in a news aggregator This will let you know what is going on here on js withough having to visit the page. Cool stuff! So download one of the apps on this page, then add the feed by copying the orange RSS link on whichever forum you want. Here is an RSS link to the main forum. Here is an RSS link to the to groups. ENJOY! (Read More... | 0 comments)
when i bought a server from pcusa.com i thought i was getting a really good deal, it turns out i was wrong. it went well at first, but soon when the server became heavily loaded for extended periods of time it was hard crashing. there was nothing in the log that would indicate a bad disk or bad memory. i decided to go down to the colo to investigate. the server was hot enough to fry an egg on. when i pulled it out on the rails and removed the "void warranty if removed" sticker, then the cover, i noticed that one of the fans that should have been blowing on the motherboard (not the cpu fans) was off... it wasn't plugged in because the cable wouldn't reach the motherboard. this really pissed me off. that's not the way to build a computer... any-who i just rearranged the way the cable was run and it plugged in just fine... i took the cover with me though because i'm going to cut holes in the top for more ventilation. i had all the best intentions, but it turned out really bad. i never should have added all the junglescene.com emails to it without asking you (even though legally you have me permission when you signed up and agreed to the terms of service) everyone who was on the list has been removed. you may still get some emails that were send out before the list was closed and just took a long time to spool. once again i am sorry for any trouble or heartache i may have caused you. the list is now empty, but if you would like to get back on it you can send an email to: js-subscribe@junglescene.com for the general list socal-subscribe@junglescene.com for the socal list i will be adding more lists soon. have a nice day! -dave (Read More... | 5 comments)
ok folks as you may or may not have noticed, js is running on a new server which is about 10x as fast as the old one with twice the storage space. i still need to get some more ram for it though. i bought this server out of my own pocket. i cost me about $2800. i'm not asking for donations to cover the cost (unless you really want to) as i use the server for a bunch of my other stuff... although js uses up most of the bandwidth and processing power. some other things i'm doing: created a mailing list for junglescene... working on a php front end for the archives as well as signing up. i also have some new projects in the works... raveflyers.com and raveparties.com ... for those projects i'm looking for the socal-raves.org event calendar going back as far as possible. if you have old versions of these please contact me. thanks! new event section - everything in the new system will be based around events. when the promoter adds an event the following things will happen: -- a thread will be added about the event in clubs in parties... you will be able to see that thread when you view the party -- the address of the venue will be stored in the standard vcf format so that it can be easily added to a users address book... this will also help with mapping. -- the promoters info lines and email and websites will be stored in the same format... both those info lines and websites will be accessible by ldap. if you don't know what that means don't worry... there will be detailed instructions on how to use it -- an iCal event will be created... you will be able to subscribe to all js calendars, just calendars from a certain promoter, just events of a certain type or just one event or club. if you haven't checked out iCal's calendar subscribtions it's pretty rad... you will also be able to rsvp for the event -- photo groups - you will be forced to choose an event for you photos when you upload them and you will no longer be able to create your own groups. the photos will be grouped by event first and then by photographer. -- emailer - i will start sending out a weekly email of what's going on in the next week and month. (auto generated of course) (Read More... | 0 comments)
for your thanksgiving pleasure i present to you the new junglescene debt / donations tracker. it gives you an idea of what is due in the next 30 days to keep the site running... that way i won't have to remind y'all so much about it. eventually i will program a cronjob that sends out a reminder when the due date is getting close and there isn't enough money in the account to pay for the hosting. i also....
