Born in London in 1972, I grew up in Hammersmith and Shepherds Bush. I left school in 1989 and ran away with the circus that was the 'free party' scene. I began DJ'ing at age 16 at the beginning of the acid house explosion and by 1990 I was living on the road and DJ'ing for Spiral Tribe and the Techno Travellers sound system.
1996 was the first Optical single, released on Bear Necessities and in the following 12 months I met up with Grooverider, Goldie and also hooked up with Ed Rush for the first time. Singles on Metalheadz, Prototype, Moving Shadow and 31 records followed in 1997 and it was around this time that Ed and myself began working together on music, deciding that we should form Virus Recordings as a way to express the more(at the time) leftfield ideas we were having.
1998 was a very busy year with working on the MOBO award winning 'Mysteries of Funk', Grooveriders first solo album, and also starting production of 'Wormhole'. I was doing 8 hours a day on Grooverider's album then going and doing another 8 hours with Ed on 'Wormhole' for nearly 12 months and still keeping up a healthy remix schedule too but it was a pioneering time in the scene where drum and bass finally went global and began to be taken more seriously by the press and music buyers.
Over the next 10 years I have been lucky enough to work with and for many of my favourite artists, as a producer and remixer, and travel the world as a DJ .A few highlights are remixing 'Fool's Gold' by the Stone Roses, and 'Rockit' by Herbie Hancock, DJ'ing at Glastonbury, Exit Festival and a Peurto Rican cave system in a rainforest where I met my wife Lisa and the continued journey through sound I have been having with Ed Rush.

That was fun. I had a great time. The DJ's were righteously rocking the crowd out - people were dancing, knocking em back...It was cool having tunes out in the aromatic patio and although it was disappointing that Optical didn't make it (stupid planes)- all i saw were a bunch of people having a most enjoyable time

yeah man sux about that situation with Optical, but still was a rockin' night. wassup with all the girl fights? ha. naw on the reals good looking to those who broke it up quik cause that is #1 way to burn a venue by the crowd u bring. Yeah, GOOD TIMES!
The outside smokers lounge was awesome with the Rudey-Raggamuffin sounds all night, and that M.C...I think he said his name is Woes..?SICK-ILL!
I was literally one of the first peeps on the dancefloor so it was exciting to see how fast it fills up inside and how quick the crowd gets pumped when the heavy drum and bass bumps hype em up.
The crowd was so live!
I especially enjoyed chillin-chucklin-cuttin it up with big bad Jo-S, Magnafide, and the other 4th Level G's.
Drone, Indentation,Machete, Serum killed it!

^ His flight was delayed and everyone kept hoping that he may make it, even if for a bit at the end. What sucks is that he did make it into LA last night, but not on time for Respect. And now Rob is already taking him back to the airport. I'm sure Optical was just as bumed as we were cuz he basically came down here for nothing. But what you gonna do .. you can't control everything I guess. Stupid planes is right! haha
Regardless I thought it was a really good night. So many smiling faces.. everyone seemed to have a good time and rock the eff out. I know I did ! But I'm paying for it today at work.
Dude I gotta give it up to Machete and Serum for holdings it down on the decks for hours and killin it! I kept thinking they were gonna run out of records cuz I'm pretty sure they weren't prepared for a marathon set LOL Good job fellaz !! |
