RESPECT
Presents

JUNGLIST PLATOON

AN ALL VINYL FLASHBACK ASSAULT

"The home-grown Junglist Platoon crew of DJs recently moved their 9-year old Respect drum & bass night to the Echoplex on Thursday nights, after the owners of their last home base, a Hollywood lounge, couldn't stand the volume of d-'n'-b's rumble and roll. (If you can't stand the beats, stay out of the kitchen.)"

-The Los Angeles Times '2008'

"They say Los Angeles isn't a party town. These promoters say otherwise. From day long funk fest to all night techno bashes, these folks are throwing your "best-night-ever" every week." 'It's a crappy job' {10 top L.A. promoters} RESPECT

-URB Magazine '2007'

"What would the Los Angeles drum & bass scene be like without Respect? Probably pretty quiet considering the six long , loud & lively years that the weekly has been in business, supplying their jungle-fevered fans with regular doses of distorted grooves and wicked selectors. Through consistent delivery of world renowned headliners supported by a core line-up of local DJs, the event has maintained a dedicated following and continues to define the sounds of the genre's LA underground."

-URB Magazine '2005'

"The junglist Platoons 'RESPECT' weekly is the bedrock of the LA scene and was recently named one of the top five hottest drum & bass clubs in the country by URB Magazine. Going full speed ahead for over five an a half years, 'RESPECT' is absolutely beloved by the community and steadily turns out quality nights by bringing through top domestic and international talent week after week."

-RINSE Magazine '2004'

"There's only one stop on the West Coast worth checking on a weekly basis and that's the Junglist Platoon's infamous Los Angeles weekly, RESPECT. Running and gunning for the past five years and showcasing nearly every major drum & bass artist on the planet, the intimate vibes, pristine sound and support from heavy-hitting locals makes this one a guaranteed killer every time.

-URB Magazine '2004'

"The Junglist Platoon's Thursday night in LA makes you remember one thing: Jungle lives, homeboy, in all its subsonic and soulful gangsta glory. Thank you.

-URB Magazine, 'Top Musical Moments of 2004'

"It's impossible to talk about Los Angeles's drum & bass scene without mentioning Junglist Platoon. The outfit has consistently been the bedrock of a scene typically characterized by a high DJ-turnover rate and sketchy upstart promoters. Moreover, the crew has proved that there's still a huge market for banging, cantakerous, roughneck drum & bass."

Re: .:SEPT 4:. RESPECT Presents ALL VINYL ASSAULT *$5 ALL NI

in my opinion....

a dj will use any available resource to him/her in order to ermm........make the dance hot! wether its cd's, serrato, dvd's, midi controllers hooked up to ableton, etc........ in 2008 it really doesnt matter. the options are plentifull.

because of this.......sometimes (not all the time) vinyl gets overlooked.

an all vinyl special event at respect headlined by all members of the junglist platoon is special. to me atleast. it will take me back to my high school days when i used to dream about this very moment!

not to mention that all the records we have as a collective probably spans the entire lifetime of jungle/dnb! jeah!!! thats special baby!

Re: .:SEPT 4:. RESPECT Presents ALL VINYL ASSAULT *$5 ALL NI

I don't have names...but can i bring them so you can play them.... hehehe...

One has that sample of (i think peter tosh) a rasta saying "sick and tired of all this micheal jackson bombo clot...i love you bombo clot..."

you know that one?...

Or how bout the one that starts with the sample
"make a joyful sound...allover the land..." And then later there is a break and
the lyric is "love is the answer, there is no other..." repeats...

you know that one?...

or "Down in the Ghetto"?

or "angel" by Goldie - or anything of that same album...

so many, just can't remember names...but i'm sure you guys will play 'em ....

boh! big up the jp crew

looking forward, going to be a fun night...

According to riddle_me_this ...

what makes playing vinyl records at a party a special event???

**********

I think the question should be "what makes an all vinyl night a special event???

First off, every week at RESPECT is a special event

As for ALL VINYL?
With technology moving & advancing so fast, it's easy to forget what being a dj was all about.
Sets used to be worked on for weeks sometimes months. The DJ would go through his collection & pick tunes that he felt would work best for that evening.

Well what's so special about that?
Of course these days a DJ can do the same if not more with the advancements that have been made, so why so special?

Now-a-day anyone can be a dj without ever leaving the house to buy a single tune. This wasn't always the case. DJs would spend hours upon hours going through piles of RECORDS that would ultimately make them who they are.

Again, why so special?
Well, say I woke up today deciding that I wanted to be a dj. One trip to Itunes or any other online MP3 purchasing site & I could make a name for myself as a 'DJ' in a matter of days with SERATO/FINAL SCRATCH as my co-pilot.
Nothing wrong with that, I'm a big fan of music & I'm all for people living out their dreams in their bedrooms

Personally when I book a DJ I want to get my moneys worth. Meaning show me what's in your bag!!! Dust off them classics, dust off those tunes that inspired you to become a DJ & put some thought into it please.

Can't you do the same with C-DJs or Serato/Final Scratch?
Sure you can, so can Lindsay Lohan, Steve Aoki, Danny Masterson etc.....

Mad late on this one, but I gotta agree with the above. This was a super sick nite... I heard tunes that made me feel like I was 17 again! Needless to say I had a great time. I so love oldschool jungle and was so nice to see dance circles too. I really hope to see more of these nights!!!! All the JP boys brought the heat ... definetly had a nice vibe going and good turnout too
