Re: Tijuana
In regards to the "scariest place" remark, there are scary places in L.A. and San Diego too. I walked a short distance in the neighborhood around Fais Do Do once on a Databass night and I was getting mad dogged by people standing in their own front yards.
Support for d&b in Tijuana is a fraction of a percent of what you find in San Diego. The dance floors in drum and bass rooms at all events I attended there (Futura and Maquiladora de Suenos at the Jai Alai building) were filled only with Americans. The only d&b DJ i know of who's from Tijuana is Ivan (System Freeze), and I don't think he ever plays there.
Nevertheless, here are links to a couple of good resources there for the arts:

I did hear rumors of system freeze playing out there - but not truly sure if it was dnb related. well then maybe this is just me being too idealistic but if we live SO CLOSE to tj and there aren't any dnb parties there, why not start something up so like every 2 months or something there is a dnb event?
who would be interested in getting involved? esh? cathode? .....
why not start a partnership with our neighbors to the south and get something going? even if current support from mexicans is low i think some of us would go to mexico once in a while to hear some dnb, right?
it would for sure be 18 and up with a bar
and system freeze if you see this please get in contact

I personally feel everyone should have a passport. The last stats I heard about Americans having passports is 8 percent of the population has one. In Europe it was almost 90 percent. That was a few years ago though, so if someone knows the updated numbers shout it out. I don't think that will hinder someone from going to Mexico. a lot of people try to use passports as forms of ID in the US, but most retailers won't allow them from US customers, only international.. which is wierd i guess.. maybe they think if u live in the U.S. and have a passport you should also have government issued ID...?
btw I have been to Watts.. my sister lives there because she's going to school. i used to live off MLK Blvd in Oakland too... i just think the fact that you need to bring lots of extra bribe money to TJ in case the federales decide you're doing something "immoral" helps disuade me from going. i know a lot of people who have gotten rolled there for doing nothing, people driving down to Rosarita who have been shot at, people who've gotten their wallets jacked at knifepoint..
also i find it hard to go down and feel good about spending money and partying when there is so much poverty EVERYWHERE..

~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Why should we need passports if we want to visit for less that 72 hours? Because everyone in Europe has them? I dont get the logic there. IMHO, we should be able to duck across the boarder (MX or Canada) for short recreational visits less than 3 days. I cant see how requiring passports is going to curb terrorism - if someone is smart enough to aquire weapons/drugs/etc and attempt to cross and international boarder, they are going to be able to aquire a fake passport. As far as MX is concerned, this is going to destroy a large portion of thier tourism. College kids and weekend travelers to rosarito/ensenada/puerto nuevo are not very likely to go through the hassle and expense of getting a passport.
and djesh... birth certificate is CURRENTLY accepted, like a DL, to go in and out of MX and Canada, the new laws will require a full blown passport.
Also you would need a passport if you ever wanted to go to London. When I went to Europe getting a passport was a realitively painless opperation. It does cost a little bit of money. But you ALREADY need a passport or tourist card to travel to mainland Mexico. Being able to just roll into Baja was a concession made by Mexico in order to encourage American tourism into the area. |
Re: Tijuana
Hey a D&B party in Tj would be great, I love the vibe of the parties in SD & LA, both I would love to have something here in Tj.
Even tough support for D&B is small here in Tj compared to the "Trance and House scenes", there still a lot of people that dig D&B but doesnt know it, I'm saying this because I've played some D&B at some friends parties and everytime people responded well (with some exceptions of course from some of the trance and house fans), But there are a couple of friends of mine that really dig this music and want to make some parties, one of them was talking to one of the guys from Pendulum, but I dont know how that turned out.
Anyways if anyone is interested in helping us to develop the D&B scene here it would be great, my friends and I are also interested in incorporating "turntablism" and hip hop to our future events ( If they'll ever take place)
skylab- i was referring to that passport/acceptable document thing, i know you can(currently) use a photocopy of a birth certificate to go to mainland mexico if it's notarized, my girlfrend did that for acapulco... i was wondering if it was going to be strictly passport after these laws are passed? if so that doesn't seem too unfair... however a passport for tj is a bit intrusive
