When is your 10... aka im gettin old

I just realized that this year is the official 10th anniversary of my alliance with Jungle/drum & bass music. It was 10 years ago that I first devoted myself as an everyday junglist, unintentionallay. I'm not saying its the first time I listened to the genre, it was just the first time I felt a part of something bigger involving music and a movement. I hope that everyone can contribute at least an anicdote about the origins of their junglism...

Started listening around 1995 - AK1200 was the only local DJ pushing the DnB sound at the time. (I lived in Florida back then) - I remember it was not very popular at the time. The Florida scene was all breakbeat/house/trance, and everyone hated DnB. It started picking up around 96/97 and more and more people got into the sound.

i feel so old sometimes, seeing so many faces come in go in the LA scene, in particular, but my 10 yr isnt until '09. but ill only be 26....weird

Started listening in 97, first party was Nation 2000.
So its commin close.
Look how far weve come since then.
Amazing.

thanks for pointing that out conor. first dnb party was in early 97 "kentucky fried gabber"(dnb and hardcore). next year will be 10 years. my joints are starting to hurt (great now im talking like chrisk.)

1995 I became a full-fledged junglist.
I became a gabber head in 1994 after giving up on house as the rebel scene took over...

10,11,12...somewhere in those # of years. funny thing has happened to me. through my love of jungle, i have found deep love with other styles of music that i was not aware of. styles that have and still are a root of jungle.

BUT... didnt find jungle til 2000.. so i got 4 more years til mine

but those 6 years have been...very..long but fun

this is me 8th year, weird thing is ive only 21 tho, ive been a full blown dnb head since i was 14 hahah, didnt start going out till i was like 17 tho

7 years. I started going to dnb parties in 1999 I was only 13, I'm 21 now. A XXL Ragga mixtape was the first jungle sounds I heard.Who the f**k gives a 13 year old a handful of pills and some blotter paper then tells them to rave it up all night? My stupid friend Matt thats who. By the way my parents didn't find out untill a year and a half later what I was doing.

the first "real jungle " I bought was in 1992 the early Reinforced (4hero, goldie), et, SS's Formation label, Moving shadow, DJ crystal stuff, Strictly Underground s**t
BUT, (according to Prodigy-who's 1st 2 E.P.'s kick ass - and I agree) mister Genocide II did among the first ever ragga breakbeat in 1990!!! that is directly linked to jungle - those records are the first one's I got and that makes 16 yrs if you want to get technical
so who's old now?

1995 standing outside in the patio of a party in Connecticut

This little f**ker, jumps on the decks and tears the vinyl off the record. I jammed with him during his whole set, one of those memorable moments you never forget. Some how he made drum & bass sound different to me. But ever since that set, I have been a bass head.

This summer makes it 11 years that I've been djing. I start counting the years from the point when I started my first residency at a shortly lived weekly event on long island in the summer of 96'. My first out of state booking was in memphis tenn in mid 97'.

I found Jungle in 1994 like most other people with Aphrodite and the ragga sounds. There was me and one other dude in high school who listened to it. I made it to ASB in '96 and was in charge of playing music during lunch. I would always play jungle, hardcore, and house. People hated me, but they already knew I was the "raver" so they put up with it.

'95 would be the birth year as me as junglist...LTJ Bukem, Goldie "inner City Life". Seein' Roni Size &'Represents' live - f'ckin awsome. Became a regular at the Science sessions - never looked back.

I think it was 1994 when my friend popped a tape in his car that had jungle on it. Our local college radio station used to play jungle back then, house and techno too. My buddy Walter loved jungle. I wasn't soo hype on it then, but I grew to like it.

that's 12 years since I first heard it, but really 2001 when I met phear at Vibeflow, and he played records for me one night. I feel in love with the music. good times.

I found jungle late in 1994. I remember hearing jungle @ a Technostate party sometime in winter in a back room. The next time I came across jungle was @ a party called Crayola...ahh some great times.

*sigh* i think i lived under a rock in the 90s. well, a remote fishing village, which is just as bad musically.

the friend that got me into raves/house/trance/etc in high school and college started playing jungle for me in late 2000. i didn't really feel it too much until she decided "okay, katie = dirty hippie. hippies like reggae. she'll like ragga!" YUP. freaky flow "fire" track on "obscene underground vol. 1" made me a believer. started in on ragga, soon she was playing pish posh and aphrodite and all that jazz for me. it's been love ever since.

so i guess i've got 4 more years until my anniversary.

I started raving in '94 when I was 14. Going to underground warehouse parties in downtown L.A. and the like. I feel sad to say that I was more into the whole experience rather than the emphasis on music. I didn't pay much attention to who was playing...I would love to see some old fliers so that I can know what I was experiencing. In 1998, I started coming down to San Diego. One night after a New Year's party 98-99, we were at somebody's house for an afterparty. They were playing one of the sickest drum n' bass mixtapes I had ever heard. I asked what it was and the guy was a total ASSHOLE and wouldn't tell me. He said, "If you don't know, you never will..." What a f**knut...And that's how I got introduced to the friendly world of drum n' bass. Fortunately I got clued in to Dieselboy's A Soldier's Story album by a friend shortly thereafter. Listened to Friction's Photon remix...I've been hooked ever since. I started spinning records June of 2003. The rest is history. My 10 year will be in 2008. I'm glad more people push the sound than hide it these days...that was lame. I will never be that person.

I'm on my 10th as well. First real party was Organic 96. Some kats named RAW, CRS, Josh Swissman, etc.. gettin down in the ski loft. Oh and memorable moment was definitely Meat Beat Manifesto!

Yeah, Jungle Sky was def. part of my influence into the sound.
I still have those cd's.
The first cd's i ever bought were
Dieselboy 97 Octane
This is jungle Sky Volumes
AK1200 I forget the cd names
Aphrodite - urban jungle
and a groove rider cd with just tracks from the prototype label which is the cd that brought me out of the candy coated side of dnb.
