i call shinanegans (@ the standard)

*this isnt directed in any way to chris (xyz)*

After a 3+ hours drive from San Diego to L.A. fighting holiday traffic we arrived at The Standard around 2pm (which is only 1 hour after its advertised opening) we pay for parking at the hotel and proceed to the door where the guy working it says " sorry man but you need to go home. we are at capacity and wont be letting anyone else in and besides its a private invite only party,and its almost over so come back another day. No more than 5 min after saying this a group of about 15 ppl walk up and he gives them wrist bands and sends them on there way. I walk up and ask .. So your letting ppl in now? he replied "i told you no. were at capacity come back tommarow" So we hang out for a few when we get a call from someone who was allready inside and they say. " man there really isnt that many ppl up here at all." then after about a hour of hanging out in front of The Standard the door guy leaves and a lady started to watch the door. i walked up and asked when they think they were going to let ppl in. she replyed.. only ppl getting in are ppl who booked a room and were on the list." i said i was on the list and she replyed again. "do you have a room?" i replyed no. and final reply from her was "then your not getting in."

This was really lame not just a waste of 5 hours of drive time. but felt walked on and unwelcome. i mean was told at capacity but ppl walking in in groups and being allowed in.. apparently not at capacity.. more like selective entry. i knew it was all bulls**t when the guy working the door told me on thing .. then another 30 min later . and the next person working the door had something completly different that the other 2 lines of bulls**t the guy tried to feed me.

Yep...we had the same experience...spoke to Shy and he said make sure u get there early, so I tried to round up the stamina massif and get down there soon enuff (after the super Samurai rinse out Sunday). Did the same..payed for valet then walked in for the dude at the front to tell us it was gonna be 30mins-1hour to get in. We waited an hour and a half while paying 8 bux a stella and blowing through loot only to be told that they were closed for the rest of the day, the whole time handing out mad wristbands to peeps roling up with tight shirts and feux hawks. Hazen called me from inside and told me there really weren't that many folks up there, Dino said same thing...I RSVP'ed with XYZ last week, he said it was all good....waisted an afternoon hanging downstairs watching a bunch of Hollywood cheeseballs run game...s**t was WACK with a capital W...should've known better when I saw Jigga "Starz in his eyes" Jayvon involved in the production...what started out as a good idea ended up as a big waist of time forralot o folks on Labor Day...Leave it the f#ck out next time.

We kinda predicted this outcome, so we opted to stay inside with the AC cranked and an icey bong... really glad we decided to be lazy.

and im okay with that
There was no reason for me to wait in line for hours for a bouncer to tell me i couldnt play with the cool kids...

(I wish it woulda worked out differently tho, i was stoked on the idea and talent.)

it's been that way for 15 years, welcome to the hollywood jet set

why you would want to run a dubstep / dnb / anything other than weak disco house or hip hop night there escapes me since the security would probably not be letting your target audience through the ropes...

Like TMB2LA said, "I am not Hollywood" --- and I am definitely not the typical "Standard" crowd.

This event looked dope, but I definitely didn't want to put up with any of the BS that you knew a trendy Hollywood venue like the Standard was going to throw at you.

I don't blame XYZ, or Jayvon or anybody for the outcome - cause they don't have any control over the game. Its just typical weak trendy Hollywood B.S. - Even Cinespace tried to front on a junglist the first week of Funktion there, and run a huge line outside for an empty club. ---- That wasn't Bassrush's fault. It takes time to straighten out these kinks, or move your s**t somewhere else.

But, you can bet if I had showed up and not been let in, I would be suuuuuuper fukkkkin' pissed today. So, I'm with all you guys who got lied to and mistreated by the staff at the Standard

This is one of the reasons why I love the drum&bass scene (you generally don't have to worry about fake lines out front, dress codes, discriminatin' door guys, guy to girl ratios --- its all about brockin' out and havin a good time no matter who you are), because that type of s**t is not my scene.

The Standard is just weird. Period. My friend has been a DJ at both hotels since they opened. For her it's a job. We had her b-day there this Saturday (mostly for lack of a better idea) and several of her friends that came, waited in line and were on guestlist couldn't get up, so they left. It sucks, but that's the way it is there. I felt Saturday like it wasn't that full up there, but they claimed it was at capacity. I'm sure it actually was at legal capacity, being that legal capacity should be based on how quickly you can evacuate everyone. At The Standard, you get there SUPER early and grab a spot or you're probably screwed. And yes, drinks, food and parking are expensive (which is why I was a bit surprised to see a jungle event there, but it seemed like a cool idea). Also, keep in mind, first and foremost, it's a hotel. It's a bar at a hotel, which means hotel guests get priority.

I just knew better than to try to go to this, plus I can barely tolerate that place anyway. The bathrooms upstairs get so disgusting it's not even funny. ewwww Anyway, I'm sorry so many of you had a bad experience, but just check that off as a lesson learned about The Standard. It's a crap shoot, at best.

yup... i didnt have my really tight .50 cent flannel shirt with fallout boy undershirt, $800 ball tight jeans and have enough time to grow my hipster hair out to make the event

it wouldve been cool to go and we were planning on it. i know there wasnt anything xyz could do about it.... its the standard that made it a hastle and waste of time for everyone

thanks to us marshall for the heads up yesterday and confirming what we kinda knew was gonna happen with this taking place at the standard.... icey bong hits and a/c were perfect

i think staff at the standard were pricks.

i agree with what steve commented on in the above post.

it was clear that they were only letting in the "shinny shirt mafioso" and people they knew personally.

i should have droped a deuce in the bathroom sink or something.. to make up for being felt like i was s**t on =/

and for the record i got there quite early 2 o clock concidering the party started at 1 o clock.. i think that is pretty early. and at 2 o clock the person i talked to said there wasnt really anyone up there. i dought anything close to capacity or "legal capacity"

This is exactly why I got there at 2 and I'm so glad I did cuz I can't remember the last time I had this much fun ! Sorry to hear you guys couldn't get in (that blows and I'd be pissed too !), but in all honestly I loooooved this party !!!! Being on the rooftop in the pool while absorbing the beautiful view of Downtown LA is definetly my cup of tea. I so wanna do this every weekend.

Also to be clear this was NOT a strictly dnb event. It was about 75% hip hop (of all kinds) and 25% dnb. The target audience was anyone. There were a good number of regular dnb heads there but i say 80% of the peeps were not there necessarily for the dnb, but still were feeling it when it was played.

complaining about being treated badly at the standard is like complaining that the music is too loud at a rave.

i know there's some of you who SO badly want DnB to be a bottle-service type scene, but it's not.

we come from dusty wharehouses, not brent bolthouse clubs.

why not just send a few personal e-vites as opposed to making it seem like anyone could go as long as they responded to some email or whatever it was?
yeah i would like to see DNB happen at some cool spots but not at the cost of having friends go through some bulls**t like that.
and if i would never put something on at a discriminating place like that,nor would anyone else i know do that.
we work hard for our money some of us have more that others,but we still work hard.we shouldnt be judged by the way we are dressed.

sucks they were cutting people down at the door, id be hella pissed too after rolling up from SD. i rolled up at 2 with my chica and we had no problem rolling up. and imma slob so who knows....

Just spoke with Chris, sounded like there was alot of stuff outta their control, first time dealing with the standard. I used to go to Gary Richards aka DJ Destructo's parties there back in 98/99 and it didn't seem to get too crazy there til later in the day. Was just really dissapointing to see all the lovely jungle ladies get they bikinis on only to get denied at the door. Better luck next time.

WOW...I just wanted to say that I came to this Party @ The Standard Hotel and got right inside & upstairs (maybe it was cause it was just Me a Miss Jane and we are Girls) but still we got there even late around 3pm and had no problem getting in. It really sucks to hear that so many people did not get in. It was crowded upstairs but a comfortable crowded. I guess they had to make room for not only the RSVP list but the other guests that were staying at the hotel that wanted to use the Pool..Anyways yeah I didn't see you rfx and I was hoping I would have. Hope all is good in SD with your new baby girl. As for the Standard.. Nice View and Plush Seating, but WAY over priced drinks I mean come on $8 dollars for a Corona PFFF...Over all it was a Good Labor Day!

i got in for like two minutes but then had to go down stairs to get a wristband. i had just gone straight up to the roof. there weren't that many people there it seemed. so when i went to get my wristband and they told me they were at capacity i called bulls**t and left. s**t was weak sauce but i had an alright day none the less

I had no idea it was like that until marshall said that sam couldnt get in...

wierd cause I walked up at 2 oclock and gotta wristband no problem...I was surprised to see that it was very mellow downstairs and up stairs.

It is the Standard and am I surprised that they got all Studio 54? not really....still s**tty for the Fam that made the treck to be with the everyone on the holiday.

still, I got pretty toasty on that roof, a few jointz, a few vodka and soda's, ladies in bikini's, and surrounded by my favorite skyline, im thankful for the hospitality.

Im not involved with the production in any way. Me and Chris got asked to perform because we have a notable amount of marketing power online and pull in a different type of DnB crowd.

Second of all XYZ EXPLICITLY STATED TO GET THERE EARLY TO AVOID ANY PROBLEMS GETTING IN!!!!!!

There were a notable amount of IMPORTANT people in the scene who actually followed these instructions came early and what do you know HAD A GOOD FUCKIN TIME.

Its more Hollywood to show up at a party where you have no pull thinking your gonna waltz in (like its your regular ass LA dnb show) when you were told that you may have problems if you dont arrive early.

Funny how LA DnB tries to act like its not Hollywood when everyone always expects to cut in line and not pay a dime becasue they are somebody "in this niche scene" and they've been around for blah blah blah blah years.
THE IRONY BEING THAT ALMOST ALL OF THE WEEKLIES ARE IN HOLLYWOOD!!! HAHA COMEDY I TELL THEE!!!

Shout out to DubFrequency for choosing to have some DnB played at their party when they could have chosen any other genre.

sorry j if you think im bitching about the party. im bitching about the staff. and the way i was continuiously lied to. i though 2 pm was early concidering there wasnt really anyone up there. and the show only started 1 hour prior. yet it was apparent that people still made it in after i arrived.. like i said before.. selective entry

ok so heres the deal,

i go to the standard quite a bit and the move is to get there early.

i see people blaming chris, hipsters, jeans, and bottles, but the main thing is that it is a club/lounge, and it operates on a RSVP or hotel rooms ONLY.

i have friends that do summer s**t there and the enterance is completely out of their hands. the australian guy in the front runs the wristband show.

it never looks packed because that is their capacity look. they can only have 100 - 300 people their durring the day, im not sure why that is.

the drinks are a bit pricey and the place looks plush, but that has nothing to do with xyz or drum and bass. on a hot summer day, the standard is the spot. sorry that some people could not get in.

i promote for 6 "boochy ass hollywood clubs" every week and something you gotta know is that when people rsvp you shoot them a confirmation telling them about dress codes, girl-to-guy ratios, when to arrive, etc.

from what i read this wasn't exactly a boojy dnb show (more hip hop oriented)... only one of those i can ever remember was orange by the grapevinez crew a couple years ago.

Hell, if you know anything about clubbing in LA you should know you have to get to the standard early.

All in all it was a good day till security kicked my ghetto ass out for flicking a cigg off the roof.

i showed up around 330 (which i know is late but it was hot and i wanted to smoke in the comfort of some AC beforehand) but we got the same rant & 'tude from the staff. in all honesty, i sort of expected it too so i wasn't all that pissed. however, i was much happier having experienced samurai biznez the night before despite the mtv idiots and sweltering heat. it's what dnb is all about. i even half expected getting into the W and not having the greatest time. if ya did get in & hand a great time...more power to ya. i got my $15 back from valet with a hug and spent my afternoon at a bar where stellas were $3 and i didn't have to drop my business card to walk in the door.

I personally had a great time. The Standard is definitely a 'come early' club. I've not been able to get in there a couple times because we got there too late (and one time I didn't have the right shoes on lol), so I made sure we all got there as early as we could (around 2 or so). I was actually thinking I wasn't gonna get in because I was wearing a t-shirt with some old shoes, but it worked out.

It was nice to have a good variety of music to chill/drink/dance/swim to. I've never heard dnb at the Standard and I think it should happen more often after this show. Looking over L.A. from a pool, with a nice cocktail in hand, listening to some dnb is f**king awesome.

It is too bad people couldn't get in. Especially after driving far. It's unfortunate that the door staff (for whatever reason, it is beyond me) behaves in this manner. Hopefully if a party like this happens again there things at the door will go a lot more smooth.
