New Look For....

http://www.musicv2.com

Nice new outlook. A very cheap way to host mixes, music, videos and more!!! I highly recommend every DJ have a place that their mixes are almost as important as a myspace page imo.

The thing I don't really like now is that a user MUST create an account and log-in so that they can download your mixes. Oh well. I guess if someone really wants your mix, they'll go through the trouble.

WOW
Thats kinda f**ked up.
Sucks that you have to sign up to download as a listener.
It was so easy to get your stuff out there with musicv2, but now you can only stream as a non-member.
hmmmmmmm

im on the fence with this one.

Re: New Look For....

Well I guess people can still stream your mixes, just to download them they have to sign up.

I still don't agree with it cuz' it takes something that small to make someone go "okay this isn't worth it, oh well", and you've just lost a potential listener or fan.

Yeah, no doubt. Its all a number game, the more steps you make the potential listener go through, the more you are going to lose in the process, people that will give up and move onto the next thing...

Re: New Look For....

This was my response on the musicv2 forums regarding this new limitation...

**********************
The purpose of me signing up for musicv2.com in the first place, was a way for me to get my music out to people the easiest. The fact that they could also view my profile, learn more about me and access the rest of my mixes was definitely a huge plus, and best of all they didn't have to sign up or do anything to do so. I could promote my music on myspace, messageboards, wherever - and people could access my music without any additional work on their part. Just click a link, bing bang boom! NEW FAN! I could direct them to my myspace page from my musicv2 account, and direct them from my musicv2 account to my myspace page - and get plenty of interaction with the listener.

Making them sign up for a profile in order to download my mixes will definitely change the dynamic of this. Sure, some people will do it - which is awesome, but others will just say forget it, they were just looking for something quick to listen to while they are at work (streaming at work is often a huge NO-NO, i know it is at my company) - and don't have time to create a profile on some new site (which they may not be very familiar with). I wish the incentive to drive fans to the site was something other than being able to download the artists media... Especially when that artist thought that feature was something they had already paid for! I know that is why I invested my money into this site - instead of something else.

I seriously hope you reconsider this, or reconfigure things - or institute some sort of grandfather system, where artists that were with the site before the re-launch are not affected by this new policy.

Re: New Look For....

Yeah, another thing that bugs me about the new design, is you can't see all of the mixes on the home page anymore - you can only see the "featured" mixes - and you have to click to view the rest of the mixes on a different page....

So, now for the B2B page, you can't see all the different mixes at once, where as you could before....

All in all, the upgrade is in the right direction - but there are a few things that are more like downgrades for the artist.

Re: New Look For....

Not to complain more, but I'm not really feelin' this new layout. My profile's all messed up and it isn't as user friendly as it once was. Before you can scroll through several pages for the same artist for events, videos, pics, friends, comments, etc...now it's all on one page.

I'm happy that my latest mix is in the top 10 most popular though Yay. Big up to the back2back sessions for consistently being at the top!

Re: New Look For....

What I wrote:
_____________

Honestly I too am a bit down that now users will have to subscribe for every mix I put up. Regardless (and I say this respectfully) of what one thinks we all will loose listeners to our mixes because of this. Maybe it is our (artists) fault because we need to do content that will make everyone want to login (not to say that we don't), but to me this "extra step" can be fatal. Let's be honest, this is the internet, in which if you can get someone to be on your page/site for :15 that is a major WIN! IMO even increasing this number by :5 seconds is the difference between getting 30 downloads and 10, multiply that out over a year and you get the picture.

Why not have it where we can purchase the ability to have non-signedup members to download our music? To me that will alleviate the problem it seems like 99% of us have plus you (Musicv2.com) can make money to compensate. Also (just analyzing) this is a partnership between us artists and Musicv2.com, one on here can not exist without another. You provide us different plans and we pay accordingly, you need us to bring people/traffic here and we depend on you to provide a spot to host our mixes (and all the other features). I just don't see why there can not be a compromise on this issue (it seems like it really is big enough). I also think comparing this site to Myspace or Facebook is a wrong analogy because those sites specific goal are social websites and we don't have to pay to use them. Also myspace pages are open (if you choose to have them as so). If you are not logged into myspace you can still see my myspace page (I do that to increase traffic) while others choose to make theirs private and so on. In the case of Musicv2.com we pay monthly for the service to upload mixes for the public, but then we now have to require the public to log in to get our mixes on download (which is a major method of gathering artist's music on here). Also what is to stop an artist from just coming up with a fake ID and password and telling people to just type that in if they want to download their mixes? Cause in all honesty I would rather do that and make it easier for fans to download my material then to ask them monthly to remember a password and login etc..

All that being said, I think this site is GREAT!!! I reiterate this site is a GREAT tool for artists and for people to get music from artists. I just have learned (and I am not some crazy "internet marketing person") that you ALWAYS want to make getting from Point A to Point B on the internet as SMOOTH as possible and I think this adjustment will make it a lot harder. I understand that you don't want the site to be just a "music dump" and you are trying to build a community, but the community are the individual pages not Musicv2 as a whole because this site is about individuals musics solely. Myspace is about friends and blogs and conversations and like 100,000 other things. My musicv2.com community are those who visit my page and dload my music as is every other artists. It may not seem harder to us here (because we are mostly all on the internet a lot, enough so to know how to upload/download materials etc.) but trust me when I used to run out of bandwidth for a month many people would hit me up not even knowing what that meant. I don't want to loose those fans/people/listeners.

Respectfully,

Chris L.

Re: New Look For....

then I added this (to me MUSICV2.COM is NOT a social site. my musicv2.com page has nothing to do with Whizard's or Daemia's or KellyD's, it has to do with our individual music the exact opposite of Myspace or Facebook)
------------------

Just to go a little bit further, if there is no wiggle room on this issue and you are content on building this as a Musicv2.com community I say you should add like a "sounds like" feature. On Myspace if you visit my page you can click on my friend's page and go to their page. Since our product is our music if I have a "Ragga Drum n Bass" mix up, there should be links to other Musicv2.com artists who have "Ragga Drum n Bass" mixes so a fan of one can maybe get interest in checking out another.

Again I just think that the appeal of Musicv2 are the artist pages themselves. I see my page as totally isolated from everyone elses because it is about my music period...something like Myspace is very different because it is for social networking first.

Again I appreciate this site a lot and the help you have given me in the past Chris and I thank you for all your hard work!

-----------------------

Yeah i just say this. Damnit. I wish you could design ur own page like "myspace" cause I would hide my comments, my friends, my pictures just to have all my mixes showing. this site, Musicv2.com, is ALL ABOUT THE MUSIC because we all have myspace/facebook pages and don't need another one of those. i understand as the owner u wanna build it as a social site, but the business model needs to be like that of YOUTUBE. I sign up for youtube to upload videos, some people sign up for my page (so every time i upload a video they get an email) and others just visit my videos without having to sign up. That is the business model i think musicv2.com has to follow. it is the contributers who make the site what it is...

so, in case they don't go back to old downloading thing were else can i store my mixes? i'll keep my account though for the streaming since i usually only get like a dozen people to listen to them online. that's what really sucks for me, they're talking about you only lose a few new listeners, but i only got a few new listeners at a time. that's like my whole audience.

Re: New Look For....

Posted by MusicV2...........

So,

I've been thinking about this a lot and taking everything that has been said into consideration I have decided on what I think is a fair and good way to move forward.

For the time being, I am going to keep the downloads from the site exactly as they are for all of the reasons I've expressed many times.

I am however changing the Direct Download system so that you can now post and share direct download links anywhere you want to without any credits limit or anything like that. Basically if you want to post direct download links anywhere on the interent you can do so and the file will instantly begin to download without ever visiting the site or any thing like that.

You can find the links for direct downloads for each of your media in the audio admin section. A Direct Download link works and looks like this:

www.musicv2.com/direct.php?id=26414

I hope this helps,

Chris
