NO MORE WOBBLE
I quit going to jungle shows because this genre makes my want to kill someone...
anyone feel me on this?
I didn't like it back in the 1990's when it was jump up ans it certainly sucks harder now!
I'd rather hear some diva-vocal, disco house than another wobble record!
By the way it is the only genre within the dnb/jungle spectrum that I don't like...
By the way did I mention how much I hate jump up???
I'm done with my rant. thanks for listening. |

Re: NO MORE WOBBLE
I'm not sure I properly expressed how I felt so just to make sure...
I really think that DNB is a very complex and interesting style of dance music. However I believe that the sub-genre known as jump-up or clown-step has simplified the dnb/jungle sound and stripped it of anything that made it any more interesting that house. It seems like it is meant to appeal to those that have little knowledge of the complexities of dnb or people that are very high on exstacy. either way. I find it very boring and repetitive without the subtleties or nuance that make the jungle genre so amazing. |

Re: NO MORE WOBBLE
Oh man, dont hate on wobble! I dont LOVE it but i do believe there should be some kind of balance. I do enjoy the occasional jump up tune at the club, wether or not many people like to admit it THE WOBBLE JUMP UP GET THE CROWD HYPED and this is true. People like Hazard, Clipz, TC, G Dub, Original Sin, Distorted Minds to name a few have some sick dancefloor tunes, SHIT, i play some of them myself when i get the chance. However, when a set is NOTHING BUT WOBBLE it does become stale, the formula gets old and tired and i will surely walk away, i feel ya on that. Wobble is dope but too much of it is kinda blah

Re: NO MORE WOBBLE
yeah, i think the problem for some is that most wobble is too simplistic, similar drums, wobbly basslines and the slight variations of the same leads, which a lot of people dont find innovative or pleasent. Just like ive heard some s**tty wobble, ive heard s**tty liquid and s**tty tear-out tunes. Theres garbage and quality in every sub-genre of dnb, its just a matter of what your listening to i guess....
maybe its time for some "ground-breaking wobble"

Re: NO MORE WOBBLE
yah wobble is pretty uninspiring I must add. It kinda takes away the complexity and safistication that oringally attracted me to dnb music in 1998. I can still appreciate simple dnb like calibre - fire and water (which is by far more jump up than liquid) for the fact it doesnt sound like a ringtone from a 1997 nokia cell phone lol. I do think proper jump up is f**king sick tho like old dope dragon and full cycle. There is still good jump up being made, lots of stuff gets classified as tech or liquid purely for the fact that it doesn't sound like nokia wobble garbage, but its still blatently jump up dnb lol.
anyways its all just labels, plenty of s**t tech and liquid out and about. Does bother me tho that u do hear more s**t jump up than just atleast average liquid for that. |

Re: NO MORE WOBBLE
I dont mind the wobble to be honest, some of it is quite tastey these days if we are all being straight here....my problem is with the mixing of it. Is it a requirement to pick tunes that are off key from each other to double drop? I have seen sets full of out of key double drops and djs dancing around like they are standing on hot coals. Please people, learn how to mix, this double drop thing is just out of control. Its like, "look at me, I can prove I can beatmatch at the cost of everyones night out as I ruin it with key clashes"....??!!!?? |

Re: NO MORE WOBBLE
I have always said the best thing about drum and bass is that there is something for everyone.
i have friends that only listen to rock and metal but dig on the darker dnb... sweet!
i also have friends who have never heard dnb so i'll give them a dancefloor mix (andy c., hype, marky) and they fall in love with the sound.
then there are the new kids (who by the way are the ones who packed out function and respect on a weekly basis) and they are the ones who are all about the gnarly wobble sound.... and since they are the ones showing up, more than likely the dj's are gonna try to accomidate the crowd.
i personally love the jump up (wobble) sound but yes like some others have stated.... it can get old after listening to it for six hours strong.
there are so many styles in the sound, don't cage yourself in to just one!
But if you dont like it.... just don't listen. and that goes for anything! |

Wobble is the "POP" of DnB
Hence why newbie 18 year olds are grindng on the respect speakers over it. Its fun and catchy, everyone enjoys a hook they can get down to in a drunken stuper.
But beyond that, the quality of music is s**t. and it compromises the integrity of the producer in my mind. When i cant tell the difference between ANY TC TUNE... i stop taking anything he does seriously.
Bottom line
Its for some people
its not for others
good in certain situations
terrible in others
we cant ban it from LA speakers
just ignore it like its electro
it'll run outta hype eventually

Re: NO MORE WOBBLE
Listen. I'm not saying that I like a whole set/evening of wobbly or jump up tunes either. I like and use diversity as well. The same aplies for any genre of DNB. If Tech Ich throws down a whole set of DNB that sounds like pots and pans bangin on trashcans it would get old too.
My point is that I'm not going to post a thread up and complain about it to piss off the people who do like it.
For example I could put up a post about how I dont care for dubstep. But before I did I would ask myself "Do people really care whether or not I like dubstep?" And the answer is NO. Or I might ask myself "I wonder if this post might make me sound like a bitter complainer and piss off dubstep fans." Then the answer would be YES.

Re: NO MORE WOBBLE
Its all twisted Individual's fault.......
I think Josh has the right idea, a whole night of the stuff is to much and is like some Barnum & Baileys s**t. I think i buy about 6 wobble tunes a year to balance out my sets so i can appeal to that one kid waiting for that sick jump up tune. And it does work.......i love tech drum n bass, it has and will always be my fav genere, but i know that a full hour of that is not as bad as a full hour of wobble, but that might just be me. But i still know that as a listener, thew same type of sound can get old quick, so what do i do........well let me tell you.
Bring alot of tech, bring a wobble tune or two, a liquid banger, and a classic selection, badabing motha f**ka, a well rounded set.
And about the double drop......i only thro down freestyle sets, no programed bulls**t unless its a mix i will be handing out(which i rarely do). Its all about knowing the key mixes, and if it so happens to double drop, awwwwwww s**t!!!!!
lol
Im done here.
I guess the main point were all trying to say is "MODERATION IS THE KEY" |
