TO ALL YOU CONSISTENT DRUNX......
....I've been thinking lately, how we are all DUI offenders on a daily....how can we re-adjust to normal society......
?????????????
Tis a financial decision on our end...
.....and a re-evaluation on our end.....
I hear so many stories on being mashed, and friends getting DUI's....how can we avoid this????
....as a collective??? |

lets consider the consequences of a DUI without accident, injury or death:
-at least $2-4k in charges for first time offenders.
-3 years probation
-10 years on your dmv record, means if you get pulled over in the next 10 years, you are automatically breathalized on the spot. makes getting your second DUI very easy and likely.
-work release and associated fines
-drinking driver program classes attended by derelicts, addicts, alcoholics and lead by ex-addicts. a very degrading experience. oh, and associated fines.
-suspended license, jail time if you get pulled over driving on one
FYI. |

The only problem with that, is liability, insurance coverage etc. I thought about why anyone hadn't thought of that idea already.... it'd be a perfect solution otherwise
In Europe they have a vespa-taxi service thing that they will pick you up at your parked car (when u realize you're too drunk to drive) and take you home.
They also has a fraction of the DUI/drunk accidents/etc. in comparison to America because their laws are way stricter, (first offense is automatic loss of license i believe) and they have a waaaaaay better public transportation system.
Better public transportation would solve most of peoples dillemas when choosing to drink or not drink and drive. But unless you live and play in hollywood atm, you're pretty much assed out re: public transportation

Re: TO ALL YOU CONSISTENT DRUNX......
For a while I was getting into this bad habit. Then I got a DUI. $3000 in fines, court appointed alcohol classes(that I had to pay for), court appointed AA classes, and probation that I finally just got off, plus my insurance went sky high (I really could only afford liability right after). I think in all that last gin and tonic I had probably cost me $10000 and about 3 months of my personal time...most expensive drink I ever bought.
Drinking and driving is a stupid f**king thing to do that is easily avoided. All it takes is a little self control to not have that one that puts you over. Give yourself a limit and stick to it for the night...or better yet, don't drink if you're driving. You really don't miss much and you can still have fun because there's jungle music and friends around. |

Re: TO ALL YOU CONSISTENT DRUNX......
yea i have a dui under my belt. back in early 2004.
driving under the influence is a HUGE problem (for me, and all others) and honestly i dont see it being resolved anytime soon since most californians live in their cars.
in europe and other societies the governments have taken the responsibility out of the peoples hands by offering an awesome public transportation system. Unfortunatly here in the states its very costly....and it smells sometimes lol.
the cost of drinks at parties and the fact that i need to drive afterwards really limits my drinks at parties. and a lot of the times when we roll to parties were rollin with the homies all in one car, and we usually have someone who doesnt drink because they have to work the next day or whatever. but a lot of times thats stiiill not the case.
im definatly down for a united junglist transportation system. And i do see threads on here about homies asking for rides to parties. I am down to see these more often if the responsible driver is compensated for taking the extra time and money to drive around and pick all our asses and and drop us off!
big ups to the person who volunteers. you got my money/support/respect. |

Re: TO ALL YOU CONSISTENT DRUNX......
Recently when I went to Irvine Spectrum - there was a business card on all the cars, offering exactly this service.
It was a couple, and they offer to drive your car home for you, and obviously the second person follows you home in their car....
That was the first thing I thought of too, that it must create some liability issues - but I guess the overriding consequences of drinking and driving must be greater than these liability issues?
All in all, I think it is a good idea, and if all the legalities can be worked out (some sort of special insurance policy for these companies) - it would be a lifesaver, literally!

Re: TO ALL YOU CONSISTENT DRUNX......
This last weekend I had two beers at the Evol Intent show and called it quits. I went and picked up my friends that came with me, and I dropped em off. I've learned from friends getting DUI's that it's just not worth it to have more than my limit. You can still have a couple of beers, you just gotta make em last... and you just gotta have self control and stick to just a couple of beers. I agree though Tez, this is a great idea, it's much better to pay a sober driver gas money than to pay thousands in fees / fines. |

Tez, if you wanted to organize groups (by counties; LA, OC, SD) You could make a list of all those wanting to participate, then alternate one by one who would drive sober for the night.
Example;
Groups of 4 passengers to a car, with one driver
participants would be able to get smashed and be care free at 4 shows before having to commit to staying sober for one.
this would be a great step for; carpooling, sober driving, smaller bar tabs (drinking b4 event, not worrying about driving to) + pre-party fun w/ homies, pooling people together to support events which they might not attend due to inability to drive/pay for gas on a particular night etc.
organization would be key
and finding people who are serious and committed too of course.

$20-$30 cab ride (IF you are solo)

if you get pulled over after that about ANYTHING most likely it will double your suspension and fines.
when i got my dui i got pulled over a week after that because my tags were expired (which i had proof of payment for) but when the cop ran my license it was suspended from the dui and my priors....so i got to court and the judge fined me $7500 and a year and a half suspension.

I got pulled over for not having my headlights on after leaving my local watering hole. Witch led to me to 4 field sobriety tests, 3 Breathalyzer, and a blood test after being arrested. All witch I passed (failed in their eyes) with a 0.00 % BAC. Seems that when you are guilty they expedite your paperwork and get you going on the path to "recovery" with their wonderful classes, payments and public humiliation. In my case I have yet to receive any sort of paperwork from the local PD that arrested me saying the charges are dropped. I had to take 3 days off (not in a row) of work to deal with the bureaucracy of the local PD, DMV, DA and my insurance company. I'm still bitter but I’m glad this post came up because it gave me a opportunity to vent.

Re: TO ALL YOU CONSISTENT DRUNX......
what i find interesting is that most of the people i encounter who smoke almost always do it while or b4 they drive as if it's any different from being drunk. just b/c they can't test you on the spot doesn't discount the fact that your reaction time is not as quick while yur stoned so u can still get into an accident. and don't get it twisted... cops know when you're hi if not from the look in your eyes but the stank in the car. i don't do anything if i'm driving anymore since i got my 1st and only dui in la a year after i moved here so that was about 5-6 yrs ago. and yea...it's no joke. $5000 in the whole and they held me for 13 hrs cuz i still had my ny license. they throw u in the drunk tank w/ the rest of the crackheads, thieves and pimps so you're treated just like everyone else they picked up that night..it's quite depressing. i don't ever wanna have to go through that again. what's f**ked up about the system is they make you go to 8 aa classes b/c it's mandated by the state. aa is rooted in the belief that you are powerless b/c the alcohol "consumes" you and u must rely on "god" to save you. so if you aren't religious or believe in god and really do have a problem it's not going to be effective at helping you. and the fact of the matter is all of the treatment options to keep drunks off alcohol all have the same %5 success rate but i still think the state should give u an option as to what kind of counseling you receive ESPECIALLY if you're f**kin paying for it. and then there's the alcohol education class i had to pay $500 bucks for and all i did was attend this class twice a month and watch movies like trainspotting and leaving las vegas. who would complain right? but where's the service in that? what good is it doing but waisting my time and money? it only pays for that persons salary who has to sit there and watch the class while u watch movies. i'll tell u though..what impacted me the most was the madd presentation that was actually the only mandated thing i didn't have to pay for. u really begin to think about your actions when u hear these mothers tell their stories about how their kids died in drunk driving accidents. |

For New Year's, Triple A had a program where any driver who was drunk could call them and they would tow your car [and you] back home [or wherever] within a 7-10 mile radious [I think]. Pretty neat idea, so I stayed local that night, but being intoxicated, I forgot the number. Hence, another night of sleeping in my car. Wish they could do this year round, and perhaps charge a small fee. But then I shouldn't be talking.. I shouldn't have to rely on others. Need to be more responsible when drinking.
I end up just staying the night and partial morning just sleeping and sobering up in my car. But even that's not enough sometimes. |

sadly, not even that is true. there are only a handful of busses that run past midnight and most of those you don't want to take. and our wonderful rail system also shuts down early....me thinks the city makes too much on DUI's to even open it later. f**kers.
i've had many of my own scary moments and exceptionally close calls. i've been very fortunate to say the least and have had good friends around me to yell at me when i f**ked up and drove when i shouldnt' have. now when i go out i typically public transit it there and catch a ride back with someone who isn't too obliterated, or i simply won't drink and drive their car home. but then again i don't go out very much and now i tend to stay local, i.e. no more than a mile or so walk.

Re: TO ALL YOU CONSISTENT DRUNX......
In SD, there is a program called the SAFE RIDE program where if your intoxicated you can call them up and they will come get you w/ another person and drive you and your car home (The other person follows in the car they came in). Im pretty sure its a small fee or atleast a tip or even if you use them to volunteer an evening of doing what they are doing to get people home safe that have been drinking... |

To the tokers:
if you are ever pulled over or a pasenger in a car that's searched and weed is found, don't br a prick, try and be nice, and ask the cops when they're writing you up if they can cite you under the health and safety code (Section 11357) as opposed to the vehicle code (Section 23222). the difference? your license.
gotta know the law. |

Re: TO ALL YOU CONSISTENT DRUNX......
get good sleep beforehand, eat a good meal, and order drinks with red bull in it. that's my m.o. at the moment.
usually i try to crash at a friends' pad who lives nearby whichever venue i'm attending. or meet up at a friend's house beforehand who's driving and crash there after |

Re: TO ALL YOU CONSISTENT DRUNX......
We had this at our high school.
It was setup so some people involved in the associated student body would be sober and on call at night to pick you up at a party or where ever u were.
Was damn funny being wasted and having the ASB president picking you up.
Made for a funny monday!
