JUMP UP VS. LIQUID- WHO WINS??
After looking back on the past 12 years, and reflecting on how far Drum n Bass has come, I thought I'd see what other people think!
I've been a fan of Drum n Bass since 1997 growing up on the East Coast. I remember m first show-going to see Freaky Flow at the Tunnel in NYC (a crazy place). What I found there was this crazy new energy within that I had been looking for all of my life.
As I've become older, I feel lucky to know that I've been growing up a part of a REVOLUTION. I realized then, as I still believe now that's exactly what this is...
Jump Up will and should always hold itself high within the DnB community, and I think it's important to remember that like all things, it too must grow up!
To me, Liquid is such an important part of Drum n Bass because it shows us what POTENTIAL there is for the future!
So who wins?

there is no VS in the matter. there is quality in all subgenres of dnb, which makes dnb that much more flavourful!

I love liquid... I mean I LOVE IT. I will try n play it any time I get to.
but the truth of the matter is it just doesn't hype the crowd like jump up can.

DnB is like Creationism, it suggests that there is Someone is Bigger than all of us. The evolution of music is inevitable and it progresses. Liquid is so fluid and futuristic that it's advancement is superb. The adrenaline involved with Jump up is extraordinary. I embrace our Roots, that DnB is bigger than us as junglists and I Recognize our Future! LIQUID-JUMP UP! We all win!!! |

I love it all as long as its a solid track, but to much of a good thing can kinda be bad.
Like a hour of jump up to me gets to be a lil to much, and an hour of just straight jazzy stuff can be a lil to soft.
But if u can find the nitch between the two and rock those and some other forms aswell, well......then u have a dope set!

I'd say this is a silly question.
Those who really love liquid love the smooth vibe. They're not the "crazy go nuts" types. To expect that from the liquid crowd is like expecting jazz fans to start a mosh pit.
I personally dislike jumpup, but I can understand the appeal. It fits what certain people have come to expect from drum and bass, and so in their sphere, it's exactly what they want, and they react a particular way.
Different styles equate to different moods, and elicit different reactions. They both win. |
