R.I.P. Tim Traaen aka DRONE
Holy s**t... Katie alerted me to something horrible today. Tim Traaen (aka DJ Drone) was shot and killed by an armed robber near AC Lounge Friday night/Saturday AM. His girlfriend was also shot but is doing ok.
I will always remember how cool he was when I first met him. He was a huge VE supporter back in the Tio Leos days, which we always appreciated.
Dude... I feel like someone punched me in the stomach. This is so sad.

SAN DIEGO -- Authorities Monday released the name of a man who was killed when he and a friend were shot during a robbery in Normal Heights.
Timothy Traaen died early Saturday, according to the San Diego County Medical Examiner's Office.
Traaen and a woman friend were shot after leaving a bar at Adams Avenue and 30th Street, according to police. The woman, who survived the shooting, told police that a gunman came up behind them as they were getting into their car in the 2900 block of Suncrest Drive. The man demanded money and then shot the couple, police said.
The woman was last reported hospitalized at Scripps Memorial Hospital.
Police said the gunman ran to an alley west of 30th street. A witness told investigators that a light-colored Chevrolet van drove quickly out of the alley in reverse after the shooting and drove away from the area.
Police said anyone with information about the crime should call the homicide detectives at 619-531-2293 or Crime Stoppers 888-580-TIPS.

I received an email about this on Sunday as his bro is good friends with my cousin - asking for any information on the shooter. I didn't realize it was someone in our scene.
My condolences to all those affected by this terrible tragedy.
I hope that the killer is found. |

Whoa...I knew that guy... What's strange was that I was at Kadan on Friday night and we saw a bunch of coplights about 100 yards from the club. One of the guys at the club decided to go check it out and see what happened. He said that he saw one of the bodies being pulled off the street. I'm not sure that it was the same incident, though. He said there were 4 shots fired and that 3 people were killed.
Either way, that sucks. Didn't realize stuff like that went down in that neighborhood.

there really aren't words to describe this loss. to lose tim, so gentle and fun and goofy, to such senseless violence... it just doesn't compute.
i've probably had to tell ten people today who cared about and loved him more than most, and it still doesn't seem real.
my heart goes out to his family right now, i can't even imagine what pain they're going through, nor do i ever want to. rest in peace, tim. |

I f**king miss Tim soooo much. I was thinking about him recently and was told he would be at the Day Party Aug. 12th. I was stoked cause I have not seen him in about a year. NOW, its all just a dream.
Pat, we are having people over our place Friday night/early evening. You and Morgan are more than welcome to come by. Peter and Brad will be here and a few others as well. It would be cool if some of us could work something out as far as a benefit for his girl and his family. I might have a venue big enough to hold it at.
If anyone else who knew Tim wants to come by and chill. Hit me up on here and I'll get you directions.
This is just a get together of all his friends and the people who were moved by him. Its not meant to be overly emotional. Just smile and have fun. Thats what he would have wanted.

I still can't believe this. It's just so senseless. Words can't express right now just how bad it feels to know that we'll never get to see that smile, hear that laugh, feel the warm embrace of his hugs, argue with him over stupid s**t. Tim was a good friend to us over the last 5 years and will truly be missed. Our deepest condolences to his family and girlfriend. He will truly be missed.
