record / tune release posting in this forum?
what do you guys think? i think for a small percentage of the people on the site this is interesting, but for everyone else it is filling up the main forum. there is a forum for new releases / dub plates...
what do you think?

Re: record / tune release posting in this forum?
Yeah I think that makes a lot of sense, and it would allow us to just go to one forum for it all. And for discussions, it would just make more everything a bit more organized in the main forum. |

Re: record / tune release posting in this forum?
I think that if you're trying to promote a new tune or release, you'd want to put in a forum that gets a lot of views, like the Jungle Scene forum. Not a forum that's within another forum that most people probably don't read.. I mean this site is about the MUSIC, right?Without the MUSIC there would be no Junglescene.. My 2 cents.. |

Re: record / tune release posting in this forum?
Yeah posting in the main forum you would think you would get more views, but if there was a forum specifically designed for new releases/tunes then you would have to Respect that and if you really cared about it all then you would know to go to that forum.
Besides people who dont care about the new releases probably pay no attention to it in the main forum anyhow. It would just flood the stuff others would want to see or what not.
But then again what is the Listen to this forum for? Doesnt it sort of run along the same boundaries? |

Re: record / tune release posting in this forum?
here's my suggestion
if you do make a new forum for new releases can you make it on the forums page? not a sub-forum?
i check new releases a lot but sometimes i get lost up in this site! lol theres lots of dark corners you can find your way into..
---slightly off topic -> any way to implement a "views" to the threads? it makes it a lot easier to see if someone, or anyone for that matter, is even looking. which helps me out a lot actually.. just askin |

Re: record / tune release posting in this forum?
you could have a forum called New Releases
in the subfolders could be *edit* west coast/mid west/east coast/canada/uk/worldwide or something that degree so then people can not only keep up on new relesease, but where they are coming from.

i like to hear when local producers/djs release tunes!!
at the same time goatkiller's new digital label from eastern europe is not something anyone is interested in... so yes i would agree with keeping local labels and producers in the main forum but the "spam" threads could go elsewhere |

Re: record / tune release posting in this forum?
I don't mind them being in the main forum - if I am not interested, I will just skip over it. And, it is topical to the main forum.
I think that if you want a decent amount of views - the main forum is the place to post something - and not a sub-forum that doesn't see much activity.
When we segregate things too far, it just results in that information being isolated, under-represented, and overlooked by most who just check a couple of the main forums.
Additionally, I don't think having a separate forum would achieve the goal of just having the local stuff in the main forum - because "outsiders" would't be as familiar with the board, and would just post in the main forum anyways. (and probably wouldn't spend the time to find out if there was another forum specifically for new releases) |

for as long as i've know the texas dnb forum only allows releases from local labels/producers and it seems like most people are mindful of it. of course i like this idea since i'm a local label owner/producer :P |

Re: record / tune release posting in this forum?
i say you should let them post in the main forum... unless you make a section specifically for 'New Releases' / 'Forthcoming'... the "Producing" section is labeled as "Discuss methods and techniques. NO WAREZ TALK!!!! please support your software companies... they support our scene!" so that wouldnt really be suitable for tunes that have been signed and released.
and im pretty sure this main section and club and parties gets the most activity... so it would be smart for the promoters to put it in this main section. |

Re: record / tune release posting in this forum?
yeah i think i will make a top level forum for new releases. that's the best route.
i think i will also make a move thread feature so i don't have to delete threads. i've been lazy about doing that and i may not implement it, but who knows.
also as for the "views" feature that will never happen as it would add thousands of write sql queries to each thread.

Re: record / tune release posting in this forum?
A guy puts work into a site - trying to make it as funktional and orderly as possible - so that a visitor can navigate it and find what ever info they are looking for...and can find it because its set up in a logical way. but instead of following the sites structure, people instead post willy-nilly - where ever they feel like - which means, Everything ends up on the Main forum...
why have any forums at all besides the main one? No one seems to pay attention to any of it anyway....
seems people just post 'whatever they want to on the main forum... dnb related or not.
esp. when 'self-promoting'.... You know how people Love to talk about themselves! or their label - why isolate yourself in some 'corner' forum that supposedly 'no-one' looks at - why not put it out front where more people will see it - Since, We've all been waiting with baited breath just for YOU and YOUR new s**t -
*i'm just being sarcastic - no disrespect... forgit'bout it
But seriously, i don't think everything should be posted in the Main Forum...There is a forum designated for this, is there not? Then it should be utilized...

Re: record / tune release posting in this forum?
This thread makes me laugh. People come to this site, for the most part, with the sole intention of finding out information pertaining to jungle. I personally cannot think of anything more closely related to jungle, drum n bass, or whatever you opt to call it , than new releases. Since when is information directly related to this sites intention "thinly veiled spam"? Seems to me it is exactly what the message board is designed to do. Get information to the people.
I would guess that a large portion of visitors are not registered, and probably never make it past the "jungle scene" or "clubs and parties" forums. Why should it be made difficult for the casual viewer to see this information and be forced to dig into elusive sub forums just to find out about the actual music? |

HA! that's funny.
yeah, i think it would limit the exposure of the new releases even being in another forum (even if it's top level).
but, whatevs. it's not that big a deal.
i usually just scan over the threads i don't want to read anyway. and then vice versa it's nice to sometimes catch something interesting you weren't looking for without having to dig to hard to find it. |

Re: record / tune release posting in this forum?
With all due Respect not everyone on here is a DJ/Producer although it seems like everyone in LA may be. Yeah this is a Jungle/DnB message board but that doesnt necessarily mean its top priority should be releases. If you really want to know the releases go to the forum. Makes sense.
People come on here for information and discussion, it would seem right to make it easy for everyone to maneuver through. You know what your looking for or what forum you want to read so you can go to it.
I think Dave and others maybe just noticed there was enough releases in the main forum to make a new forum to be dedicated to them all. You want main exposure pay for some advertisements if you think its that effective.
I love the music and come on here to get info on shows and what not but if I was interested in realeases, I would definetely just go to the forum, all information would just be there plain and simply and I wouldnt have to search the main forum for a thread on a certain track I wanted more information about. Be a lot easier to scan through a forum just for new releases so there is nothing else flooding the information I was trying to seek. To me personally would be easier because it will all be put up plain and simply and I can figure out what tunes I really want to know about.
My 2 cents. Sorry for the rant.

Re: record / tune release posting in this forum?
yeah so my thoughts were that half the posts in the main forum were release, why not create a forum just for the releases. it would be a top level form when you look at the forums pages (the landing page for js). i also thought that keeping the LA related releases in the main forum was fine. the name of this site is junglescene not junglemusic.com.... if a post went up in the main forum every time any new release came out it would fill the forum. also most of the people who check this site out are not djs and probably don't care what the latest vinyl that is dropping is. |

Re: record / tune release posting in this forum?
I think its funny that people who are worried about the casual users are regulars. The fact is that this site is well set up and easy to maneuver. Just because people fear having to expand their forum viewing to more than one or two? As a participant in a minor forum that gets lost alot (designer jeans) I understand the idea that you dont want information hidden, but the fact is that it isn't hidden, just stop clicking the same 5 button 800 times a day and explore a bit. You will be greatly rewarded with lots of interesting topics and less drama from casual posters who are just trolling the 'latest posts'.
Follow your instincts. |
