Re: where were u in '92?

I was 12, living in the suburbs of Ventura County, listening to Nitzer Ebb, Underworld, Front 242, and Coldcut.

My older brother was working at a local Warehouse music store and he would constantly bring home pre-release CDs of bands and electronic stuff that I had never seen or heard of before. Since I couldn't get out on my own much (except to house parties that my bro's friends threw), my time was mostly spent at home, listening to these CDs and trying mimic the sounds with NoiseTracker on my Amiga.

Re: where were u in '92?

My first real party I went too, was that new years party at knott berry farm "krave". When people still wore funny ass hats and gloves. I was wearing fresh jive shirts and doc martins back then. I was looking at some fashion trends by going thru some photo archives online and boy have we come a long ass weird way.

Anyways I remember going to some of those events like stupid cupid and Latin Underground parties. I would have to go to exodus records back when it was still in the 818 area code. End up in some warehouse party on the East side. Those were some really fun times. I guess thats why Im still into these parties and stuff.

Re: where were u in '92?

Insomniacs threw a weekly(bi weekly) in DTLA early to mid 94. It switched to some crazy cramped two room spot across the street after a while that was like 3 stories up. I can't remember what it was called for the life of me..but thats when I first started to be able to differentiate the types of music and stuff, see the same people over and over.

Re: where were u in '92?

don't have a musical moment - 'cept for really, really being into "fear of a black planet"... i had stopped doing music then - Putting all my time into social activism and organizing..

but the main thing i remember from 92 was the LA rebellion/riot...I was at Parker Center (5-0 headquarters) the first night when the parking kiosk got burned down

I was in a line of righteously pissed off people of EVERY color and nationality - we were going toe to toe with a whole flanks of police. People were so mad,
It was awe inspiring - how fearless the people were... in that anger was something beautiful- I never felt more alive. It was far better then any party - to see and feel that determination to fight against an injustice - putting it on the line not just for themselves but for all who have suffered at the hands of brutal police.

"we don't get no justice, you don't get no peace"

"Burn Hollywood burn I smell a riot
Goin' on first they're guilty now they're gone
Yeah I'll check out a movie
But it'll take a Black one to move me
Get me the hell away from this TV
All this news and views are beneath me
Cause all I hear about is shots ringin' out
So I rather kick some slang out
All right fellas let's go hand out
Hollywood or would they not
Make us all look bad like I know they had
But some things I'll never forget yeah
So step and fetch this s**t
For all the years we looked like clowns
The joke is over smell the smoke from all around
Burn Hollywood burn"

Alex I and me did a party in '91 called TRUST, we had Doc and Barry on the lineup. we passed out necklace fliers for show to promote it. the evening of the party we're loaded with sound, on the way to Mateo and 8th to break into the warehouse there. the same 3 or 4 story place used for Human Resource(Dominator) a week or so before.

so as we pull up, some other dudes are breaking in!
turns out they had the same idea we had...so we ended up taking a floor and they took a floor and we split the door.

back then you really never knew what to expect.
