***IMPORTANT*** RESPECT UPDATE : EFFECTIVE IMMEDIATELY!!!

Due to the overwhelming amount of underage drinking and senseless tagging that has taken place over the past few months, we regret to inform that The Echoplex Management has decided to pull any and all under 21+ events at Respect, effective immediately.

We apologize to those of you who have played by the rules because it's your support and energy that inspired our fight to keep Respect's doors open to 18+ for so long.

However,
WE WILL be looking into options for future 18+ monthly and one-off events so STAY TUNED!!!!

I hate people who tag at clubs/parties!!!! Go hit the freeways not the club walls! That is an absolute shame that this has happened.

damn... thats like 30% of the crowd right there... if not more... this is good and bad... youngsters do get annoying or unruley sometimes... but lower number of heads in the place!

i dont know how some people can expect 18-20 year olds not to drink when at an event with people serving alcohol... especially in a "party" atmosphere... "hey ill buy you a beer, if you can get me one".. "sure NO PROBLEM!!!" c'mon WE ARE ALL GUILTY OF THIS!!.. and we've ALL been on both sides of this...

That's soO lame... that place is too nice to be messing up the scenery with ugly tags all over the place. It's just a really stupid thing to do. As for the underage drinking.... when i was underage, I always respect the rules...

You gotta get drunk before hand.. durrr!!!

I remember I held a homies drink at History couple yrs back.. got kicked out early in the night, for holding a drink that wasn't mine, and I had to wait outside the venue (in downtown LA) by myself til 2 or 3am, cause my "friend" wanted to keep partying.. even though i got him into the event.. grrrrrr!!!

Rules are rules for a reason people...

Really sucks though... I would of been so bummed if I was underage and wasn't able to get in anymore...

Its unfortunate but at the same time these issues are probably some of the hardest things to regulate unless you have a beer garden where everyone is confined to a designated drinking area and strip searches to uncover any keestered markers or writing materials.
Often venues choose to suspend under age drinkers for the sheer reality that if Anyone underage should injure someone or themselves the Venue is Liable and could potentially be in Jeopardy of losing thier License to operate or sell drinks.
It's a serious matter, But like someone mentioned before.. it happens we have all done "it" (drink or supply drinks to underage drinkers) The key is not get caught if you do or did then you werer slippin' while sippin'.

Firstly this greatly saddens me... I have your back always 100%, I wish I had known about the tagging issue I would have tried to work with you guys to help reduce this issue.

Secondly stupid generalizations are for ignorant people. Saying I hate taggers, sounds to me like some saying I hate jungle heads, they always stink the place up with that weed smell.

I do agree that tagging at a club/party is super toy. So I think it would sound better to say I hate people that tag at parties or something to that effect, I hate toys, etc...
otherwise I take it personal. Us taggers are crazy!

also people are quick to point to the taggers, but I've been to dubclub up stair dozens of times and seen 21+ kids go nuts with the tags. I think it was more of an excuse and underage drinking was a larger factor..

I wanted to second what piston said and add (i may be a little off here- i'm not a graff artist);

Once again, the the narrow, self-interests of a few small-minded selfish 'individuals' - has a negative effect on a communal activity.

To think that there is anything at all rebellious in tagging a mid level club is
absurd to the extreme- sophomoric moronic and self-delusional.

The graf community has a whole has moved way beyond the beginning days of
tagging and street expression and street cred (although its still an important element). This s**t is recognized as art - world class and on a world scale even..The rest of the graff community has reached the respect and artistic level of modern day Michelangelo's - and making social and political statements that have more relevance to basic people then any eloquent speech given by Mr "Hope" (i.e. Bansky)... Mean while, these fools' tagging of bathrooms, is the equivalent of a cave-man scribbling on rocks well before the stone age.

If u want to be 'subversive' by tagging a club - then you need to go the uppity - bourgeois clubs that cater to the well-soled...oh thats right - you with your
hoody can't get in those - because of dress code.. - but a 'real' subversive knows that you have to put on the clothes of those you want to subvert.

And all you really did, was f**k it up for everyone under 21. ya fool!

YOU SHOULD NOT TAG CHURCHES.
YOU SHOULD NOT TAG PEOPLE'S HOMES or PERSONAL PROPERTY.

I won't say I haven't tagged clubs, but I don't s**t where I eat...
I have used graffiti as a tool to piss people off, but I don't think it is always the proper means of expressing one distaste with a given situation.
In other words to accept graffiti as credible art one must realize that it takes a system of filters for on e to achieve a certain level of skill. In graffiti it takes various step the first being toydom. There isn't a hand book of rues and if there were many would opt to discard it, as it may go against some of the philosophical reasons behind actually doing graffiti(rebellion, anarchistic tendencies). The fact is most great talented graffiti artist started as toy tagging places they should not have or ust didn't know better.
That being said if you are a toy at 18 there is a good chance you will never surpass that place within the graffiti world.

To generalize graffiti heads is like saying all junglist are "_______." Whatever you choose to say it is likely not true for everyone.
There will always be bad apples.
