Re: The negative side of crate digging
the art work is dope but i'm an avid digger and although i can see his point, it's a long stretch as it's based on a presumption that every person who digs for out-of-print or rare vinyl is trying to receive notoriety by the collection they have aqcuired. and then to go as far as to say that just b/c a producer may rip a sample b/c they want people to know that they used rare sound bites is kinda silly. i think most producers who are sample based produce this way b/c it's the best way to achieve a desired effect. a lot of things can be engineered synthetically that's for sure and it's always more "original" to make something from thin air "out of scratch" as they say. but the rarity of the sample source isn't what's really sought after as much as the rarity of THE SOUND that when incorporated into your production or dj set gives a certain organic aesthetic. |

Re: The negative side of crate digging
Anybody know who the artist is? I did'nt check the link but certainly appreciate his style. I remember digging into dusty crates as a youth. I spent hours in them stores. Great art work all around. My man had time on his hands |

Re: The negative side of crate digging
I love crate diggin! The pleasure of seeing the album art from well known artists that you never would've seen any other way is worth it alone. And I've come up on some GEMS! Not for the purpose of impressing people, but more for the satisfaction of hearing Sgt. Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band through my system on a prestine copy of vinyl that I picked up for $5. Moments like that make it all worth it.
Half my record collection is well over 20 years old. A lot of it I picked up from my mom, uncle and grandma. The wifey and I always throw on some random album that we've never heard when we're cleaning up and doing chores. Sometimes we come across a well known song and we're like "Oh wow I didn't know this song was by this band!"
Also I LOVE the smell of old record sleeves!
Definitely not boring IMO.
I do like this guys artwork though, and the humor, cause I can definitely relate. |

Re: The negative side of crate digging
I'm like a kid in a candy store when i'm out crate digging! There is nothing like shopping for old or new records. Today's generation has no clue what they are missing! If you're afraid of a little dust, well then you're just a pussy..LOL
Finding an old Led Zeppelin or Daryl Hall & John Oates record is GOLD! |

Re: The negative side of crate digging
Crate digging will always be special to me. The vintage sound is something I love to f**k with in the studio. Not to mention the process of recording breaks and samples.and incorperating them into tunes right there on the spot. So going from the store and just blindly looking for something......ANYTHING to listening to the tune in your car or club is a very fun expierence. I was blessed enough to have received record collections from both sets of grandparents and still haven't been thru them all yet.
You'll find the best sample in the darndest places.
I love it!!!!
And that art is really dope. Fun looking thru them.

Re: The negative side of crate digging
Sick piece -
DNB was derived off of sampling and all of breakbeat culture for that matter, so this must be sarcasm/satire. . . . . . . which makes it even better.
I do dig crates thou - 3 weeks ago the Salvation army had a 50% off sale in Pasadena, sick sick recs for ONE DOLLAR!! . Robert Redford narrating the life of Wolves, Experimental percussion ensembles, so much. - its amazing for tunes, yes i do sample lol and mix with original material . .

Yea, for anyone who didn't catch on. This post was purely sarcastic. It's odd that I have to point that out, it seemed quite apparent to me, but some people don't seem to get the joke.
