Record Release / Promos Will Be Deleted From This Forum
Hello All,
Just wanted to let you know that I will be deleting record release posts from this forum.
I have created a new top-level forum for posting new releases:
http://junglescene.com/forums/139-Releases___Promos___Albums.html

any chance of moving this forum up closer to the producers forum? seems like putting it as the very last forum sets it up to be ignored (unless that's point; view it as spam)

Re: Record Release / Promos Will Be Deleted From This Forum
there seems to be a new forum every other month. and some forums should probally be eliminated/or they should just fall under the main forum (ie. Liquid Funk, and even Ragga)cuz its all jungle / drum'n'bass really... (RE: ragga, not talk'n @ reggae, dancehall, dub, etc thats often poted in there too)
take for example www.ragga-jungle.com that site is really easy to navigate.. for everything musicly thats not jungle/DnB it goes into a category called "non ragga jungle" which can cover everything from hip-hop, to reggae, to electro, to jazz, etc., etc.
...I know there is alot of cool/interesting stuff posted here that i never see cuz...
1. there are so many forums i don't even know @ and can't find easily
and 2. I just don't have the time to dive into every forum.
I actually find new forums weekly by just looking at the latest posts thing on the side...
I'd recomend only a couple of major forums then sub-forums within.
..just some observations and thoughts.

Re: Record Release / Promos Will Be Deleted From This Forum
Seems kind of stooped to me. You’re widdling down information and making so many sub-forums people can’t tell what the hell’s going on. This is supposed to be a DnB website…. a place to go for information about DnB\Jungle music. These posts directly relate to the reason the website is even here. Without these tracks there would be no scene and no junglescene for that matter.
I understand the argument that “all people aren’t DJ’s” so a majority of people don’t care about these posts….. But what about all the “happy fukken B day” post? There are tones of people that don’t know or give a s**t about the people that are being wished a happy bday, but they remain on FRONT PAGE. There are also many posts that have nothing to do with jungle (dubstep, voting, electro, ex.) but they remain on FRONT PAGE.
What’s the front page gonna be when you done sheriffing it? A bunch of “happy bday” and “Do we need MC’s” posts.
I liked the good old days when “if it’s not jungle related, its gets deleted” was the tune you were signing. Only seems fitting for a jungle community. |

Re: Record Release / Promos Will Be Deleted From This Forum
Agreed.
Will just throw my two cents in, it doesn't get any more jungle related than new jungle music or old jungle music. Record Release promo stuff doesn't need a new forum, and if you don't want to read them - just don't open up the threads?
When did it become such a chore to skip over threads? It is necessary to have a certain amount of different forums / sub-forums, but be careful not to create too many sub-forums, then it makes the site harder to navigate and isolates the information to the point that no one will see it.

I totally agree with you Whizard!
If you don't want to read em skip em.
Since when are new tunes being released NOT worthy of being on the MAIN forum?
I'm all for being organized, but it goes back to information being SEEN.
Just MY two cents....

i have to say that most non-djs are not interested in music coming out in single form. do you think non djs like to listen to individual records that are made to be mixed? not so much. mixes are interesting to people, and we have a very popular forum for those. |

also i never said it's not jungle related, it clearly is, but the point of this forum is to discuss things going on in "our scene" whatever that means. the constant record promos every day detract from that discussion. the new forum is a great place for them and there are plenty of people who are interested in that info and won't have any problem finding it. =]

Re: Record Release / Promos Will Be Deleted From This Forum
I understand your point in this.
But, shouldn't that be up to the potential listener to decide?
Not to mention, a sizable percentage of regulars on this site are DJs in some form or another, be it bedroom DJ or superstar DJ.
Also, I think you will find that non-DJs are more interested in unmixed drum & bass singles than you think. You see how many myspace profiles have an unmixed drum & bass track set as their default song that plays on their profile?
In the end, it is your decision and I am not challenging that, but I am just providing an alternative position to several assumptions that you are providing as the basis to your decision.

Pretty much since you can "release" any track on a "digital" label now.
Wade through some of the "releases" posted daily on Trackitdown or Beatport.
Seems every start up producer with Frooty Loops and an internet connection can have a "label" now and release tracks.
Someone has to patrol that schtuff...

Re: Record Release / Promos Will Be Deleted From This Forum
i have to chime in here ... its is actually getting to the point where releasing a record and getting some kind of response monitarily or otherwise is becoming a dead art form (ask anyone making tunes) - and if a site like this has decided to move that part of our scene to the back burner - is sad and deadly .. a real ignorant fuk you to the people who actually really keep the scene fresh from the ground. I am not a huge JS junkie .. but i have been visiting for a decade - and i dont ever look at any other forum except the top 2 ( and i browse accordingly)... so i think separating an essential part of our small and struggling scene iz a not so smoort.
still love ya dave -

um....wrong. If I like a track, I'll go buy the MP3 of it. I don't put whole mixes on my myspace, I put tracks. I don't deejay , but I'm also not an 'average' listener.

Re: Record Release / Promos Will Be Deleted From This Forum
That's a damn shame that people who pour their blood sweat and tears into production and are excited to share their music on a high traffic forum are prevented from doing so and are shunned to their own corner. I think you should just create a separate drama forum so the rest of us who actually are interested in DNB don't have to filter through the other noise (oh wait, that's right! General Discussion!). I'd be lying if I said I didn't like a good entertaining read now and then, but it seems as if the agenda here is to prevent dilution of the high drama threads. Are there particular "drama threads" that got burried a little faster than you would have preferred? Maybe we can just hire some trolls or something.... Get this party started! There's gotta be some good trolls for hire somewhere....
This is bulls**t.
I'm sure you're gonna get tired of deleting pretty quickly anyways.
I like you Dave, but not allowing for an artist to promote him/herself and the artform jades me like no other. If I just spent all this time making something and it got signed, my first inclination would be to post it where people can see it. Pretty much, all we're gonna have left is a f**king circus that the rest of the world is gonna just laugh at. We ought to set the standard in music and lead by example. Not have the main forum be strictly "scene-related." B-day threads certainly shouldn't be of more value than the music.
Don't get me wrong, I appreciate the site a lot. It's been a great networking tool and a great source of information and entertainment, but the principal of "putting the music on the backburner" as Hazen mentioned really hinders what DNB used to be about. Once upon a time, we all used to be avid connosseuiers (damn is that how u spell that?) of music.
Your decision impacts the natural ebb and flow of what I thought was a democracy on this site. Releases that aren't popular/don't have much support die and get burried quickly anyway. I'd be interested in hearing what the traffic numbers are in each forum....
Oh yeah, and can someone please bring back the mixtape? And sell CD's out of their trunks? Lol...
Sorry. Got a little carried away there. But hey, if my post brings more traffic, then you should be a happy camper right?

Dave's point is that dj's and producers are the only ones who care about record releases, etc. so he's trying to make this site more friendly for non-dj/producers that way it becomes a better promotional tool and gets more traffic. Forums need regulating and Dave has to the one to do it, at least he's smart about it. Only thing I'd suggest is putting it in the top forums section right under the sets and tracklistings link that way its easier to find. It may not have as many current hits as the other forums but over time the topic certainly has. |

i have to disagree with this. i have a hard drive full of single mp3's that i downloaded before i bought a lot of vinyl (and before file sharing was considered a crime worse than murder) and i used to listen to them all day..... one at a time, unmixed.
i'm sure quite a few non-DJ's keep up with record releases..... or maybe seeing when their favorite tracks are released might encourage people to get into DJ'ing. |

I see the point, believe me. It's just kinda a slap in the face to people who work hard to share their love of the music with you. The Sets and Tracklistings forum appears to be a ghost town. It would be cool if like any other forum you could at least see how many hits a thread got. But apparently that's priviliged information or something....
As a supporter of promotion, you should appreciate that people want an opportunity to get exposure for their music just as much as a promoter promoting an event. Just like when people have to post non-dnb events in another forum. It might very well be relevant to the scene, but yet it's shunned to the corner...unless it's dubstep. So people get frustrated because they want people to see it. I'm sure some would argue that point (and I know you will haha!), but others might feel that diversity spices up the vibe a little...and a scene can always use more vibe.
When a JS user sees that a homie posted a new release, they might want to click that link and check it out more than actively trying to keep up on all the fresh tracks which not everyone has time to do. I honestly don't sit there and open each thread one by one in the New Releases forum. I think that would be kinda boring. I like the music mixed in. A little bit of this and that ya know?
Whatever, I'm sure I'm just arguing for the sake of arguing at this point, lol. I'm all worked up! Hahaha! Truth is it doesn't matter and we'll all just adapt to it and it's not a big deal. Local artists know where to send tunes (my AIM is djdaemia ) , this policy just makes it a little harder for them to get well-deserved props and I don't agree with it. But I don't know anything about anything yet so carry on.
Mad love and respect to the producers making beats and representing stateside DNB...
