banksy kicks ass. very inspirational.
this is my interpretation: along the lines of dave's 'nationalistic fervor,' is that one can be patriotic but it doesn't have to be this fanatical attitude. (similar to the religious right?) for example, after 9/11, i saw a lot of that. it was like some pro football / wwf mentality. like war is a sport. "let's go kick some ass!" (i actually saw a bumper sticker say that.) 'waving a flag' adds to america's arrogance and superiority complex. what about all the advertising and marketing campaigns that used red, white and blue non stop? or the flag with the shopping bag handles? isn't that disgraceful? using patriotism and grief to sell products? anyways, that's just my opinion. |
