mixing or tunes...what do you listen to?
ive noticed some people listen to a dj's mixing a LOT more than what tunes are played. these people get into it so much that if the dj trainwrecks once the set is ruined.
then you have people who listen to tunes. thse people can enjoy a set no matter how s**tty the mixing is as long as the tunes are bangin'.
so which one are you? |

Re: mixing or tunes...what do you listen to?
im the crazy mix trainspotter but if a dj wrecks, i dont really get worked up about it. just reinforces that, yes, everyone f**ks up now and then and that im on the right track haha ... just hope they're bringing sick tracks in the process. |

Re: mixing or tunes...what do you listen to?
i prefer to hear a cd that has little flaws.. hearing the dj work the mix.. if its slowly going wide and then fixed...
you can tell a good dj by how he fixes his mixes and how quick...
if i hear a perfect mix.. i then suspect it was done in acid or something..
and then usually upon further investigation it usually is done in acid or somthing... |

Re: mixing or tunes...what do you listen to?
i'm constantly listening to mixes but i'm oblivious to train wrecks. i never wanted to delve that deeply into the music. i just keep it at a nice dancing level because the technicalities of the music does not interest me at all. I APPRECIATE TUNES MORE THAN MIXING. track selection seems much more important to me in the set that mixing.

I'm a mix person. I like to listen to mixes, unless it's ragga, then i'll listen to individual tracks.. |

Re: mixing or tunes...what do you listen to?
i can listen to most any dj as long as the tunes are good......thats why im able to enjoy somethings that people just cant get into like when polar came down or when ray kieth was at respect. its all gravy to me cuz i just ignore the s**tty skills like i do mc's. |

Re: mixing or tunes...what do you listen to?
for real, i find myself only digging through mixed cd's now.
hip-hop, dnb, house, anything...
once in awhile i find myself throwing on some real big fish though, just to remind myself not to be too serious. |

Re: mixing or tunes...what do you listen to?
How about a lil of both? I prefer toons, since all of the peeps I have seen as of late do the long and drawn out mix but it's all crap toons. I prefer the mashup style. |

Re: mixing or tunes...what do you listen to?
I'm so with you Pete. I wish I wasn't so aware of a djs flaws.
Back in the day I wouldn't be able to tell, but the more you get into mixing, it becomes unavoidable.
I still rock out no matter what, no one is perfect. |

Re: mixing or tunes...what do you listen to?
yeah, a little bit of both for me, it doesn't have to be perfect mixing, but i like it to be at least decent, and then once that is there, it is all about the tunes. |

Re: mixing or tunes...what do you listen to?
Id say each has their percs... like a mix cd is great because you go on a long journey and feel many different feelings because of all the different tracks, and then single tracks are great because you can feel what the producer was trying to say and i LOVE 10 minute tracks |

Re: mixing or tunes...what do you listen to?
i agree- u need both, wuts a mix w/out a great tune & wuts a tune if it cant be mixed properly. How many times can u listen 2 1 tune b4 its starts getting boring. Most Jungle/DnB tunes are made knowing there going 2 be mixed. Thats why it takes a gud dj to take parts from tunes & paint a picture w/his/her set. |
