Mixers and bpm counters
I'm trying to figure out which mixer I should go with. Are bpm counters pretty helpful to have (to beginning djs) or is it worth putting the money into some other features? |

Re: Mixers and bpm counters
Dude, FUCK bpm counters. I use to have a pioneer 300 with a bpm counter, don't even bother, it just throws you off.
Plus, if you learn with a bpm counter, what happens when you use a mixer without one? Don't become dependant on it. |

Re: Mixers and bpm counters
assuming they work at least...
i have one and it doesn't work for s**t... at all -- not even close. half the time during a beatmatch it will output 78 bpm and 94 on the other record.
you'll get much more gratification from mixing without those aids... the best practice is mixing without headphones -- you'll train your ears in a hurry! |

Re: Mixers and bpm counters
Cool, thanks for the insight. Never used a bpm counter anyway but I wanted to know if I was missing anything. |

Re: Mixers and bpm counters
bpm's for jungle are completely worthless, they will not help you at all, just slow you down... for dnb the ears are the best tool for matching beats... |

Re: Mixers and bpm counters
bpm counters are useles for breaks of any kind and only slightly less useless for other beats. Also stop counting and start feeling. |

Re: Mixers and bpm counters
I'm excited, I decided to go with the Stanton Sk-2 mixer and got a good deal on ebay ($90!) when I've seen them at $300. Now I just need to wait for it to ship...(-: |

Re: Mixers and bpm counters
bpms counters suck for most breakbeats, but especially drum & bass.
careful buying your mixer off the internet. as far as mixers go, it's best to put your money into them and buy them new. decks are usually pretty safe to buy over the internet, though. good luck, have fun |
