How long have you been into jungle/dnb?

I see all these arguements about being ol school or how some people arent true junglist.
I'm just curious how long everyone has been into the music?? Not that it makes someone more junglist then that person or anything..

I first heard it in *96, but I didnt know what it was when I heard it at the time. I was into hardcore, house, and techno at first. The year of *97 is when my boyfriend and I got together and he played me Super Sharp Shooter, and for those who know, that song is soo damn tight!

Hahaha, but on the real, yo! I first heard it back in 1995 when I was at some crazy ass rave in Scotland at a castle, I didn't bother asking what the f**k it was. Then in 1997 I started hanging out with this dude who was a dj and he started taking me record shopping. It was all over from there.

I think this is sorta a silly question to ask, cause people that haven't been into it that long are gonna front like they have, cause they don't wanna be looked down upon by more "old skool" junglists.

Obviously people that try to act hardcore and s**t, are trying to cover up the fact that they're newcomers to the sound, which isn't a bad thing.

We were all new to this at one point or another.

Been listening since '94. Heard my first jungle sets @ Technostate, Euphoria & Angie's Urbal Jungle..

since before it was dnb, hell before it was jungle...

started listening to techno back in 90, started buying uk hardcore records in 91/92....suburban base, chill, production house, xl, ...been with it ever since....

i kinda burnt out around 94 but kept buying raw's mixtapes. then technology came full swing. i built a video mixer, practiced a bit. then got back into the scene about what 2years ago at respect? wrongsauce is also 2 years strong.

i do kinda miss the rotterdam though. remember that huge dinosaur song?

wow i can't believe someone actually mentioned angies urbal jungle! Yeah that's when I first heard the stuff. The sound seems to have changed so much since then. I was an L gobbler following hardcore and acid techno parties wherever and stumbled into it almost by accident. Reminds me of fear and loathing. ....just a common street freak gobbling anthing that came my way.

i came in when a bunch of heads came in.....97. i read about it some mag(details i think or was it q?) whatever the case i went down to record reaction in lb and said "where da jungle at?" and then from there up until it closed i would take the bus from high school over to there to listen to the new music that came shipped in with the wierd "made in the uk" stickers on the sleeves. the first three records i ever bought were j majik-shiatsu/??? , blame-cuban lynx/??? and dillinja/lemon d-the acid track/one out of many. im not all old school. im not gonna lie. i wish i were but im only 21 and ive noticed that most heads that have been listening since 90 or 92 are over 23 or 25. so meh!

I'll be honest and say that prior to 98 it was just a bunch of garbage noise to me. I used to hear it played at Raves but I didn't know the difference between all the Electronic music Hardcore, techno, etc. Frankly I didn't care. My whole attitude was totally different and I thought I was Mr. underground hip/hop super b-boy/ recovering G. Got rid of the old bad news homies and met new ones. To make a long story short they were into DNB and I got hooked.

i think about this question and i wonder if someone is young can they be blamed for being a newbie? like, is it their fault?? then again, if they act like tards and cuse trouble, lets burn them at the stake....

anywho, i'm still pretty young (20) but i first heard DnB at this random ass party that i went to with some friends in high school. i was looking around this house for a bathroom and i walked into this room where i heard some s**t playing. i ran to find the guy who lived there and i asked him what it was. the answer i got was drum and bass. then i was hooked.

it was s**tty, however, cuz i was like 16 and i had no friends that partied or were into my s**t. just like 2 yrs ago i started meeting people who were into it, then i had the proper outlet for my love of the music. yay!

About early 99. I listened to trance and all that before and some jungle / dnb, but didn't really get into it until about 99. Now it's almost all I listen to.

it was in about 91/92 that i started getting in to electronic music when i lived in florida. my fatehr was co owner of a club & took me to my frist rave. i never knew the classification for the tapes i was collectin or the music i was just calling "techno" in florida, it was predominatly breaks & drum & bass, uk hardcore was rare, but i would get tapes from local djs. trance came around to fla like 97 or so.. i moved out to CA in 99 & and i got into house in 2000 when i finally got over the fact that i thought it was "too slow". then i heard some 2 step...mmmm thank you.
i love ALL the music. i dont consider myself allocated to just one genere..its too diverse & each area brings up so much emotion in me & i just got to dance.

Though I had heard tons of jungle-techno and jumpup, and wasn't really feelin it,

It was a rainy wed. night in the late 90s at phunkatek, where and noel and ufo were droppin some deep early tech, when I fell in love with it.

I got into UK hardcore back in 92-93 through the mod tracker scene. I guess I wasn't exposed to DnB as we know it till Goldie's Inner City Life hit back in '95

I added breakbeat/jungle into my musical repertoire back in 95. Before that I was into hip-hop, jazz, world music, dub/dancehall, and blues. Then in 94-95 Photek, Source Direct, Goldie, and the Reinforced Crew started dropping that bad ass breakbeat bizness. Now that s**t is timeless.

98. I bought the new forms album and liked it. then started going to parties like gorilla warfare and saw there was an actual jungle scene with heads who really were into the music not just partying. I remember hearing the nine for the first time. say what you will about that tune but it's what got me into this and I still like it no matter how played out it is.

hnmmm 1993 is the first time i heard of it (i think) i had a friend in HS that spun rekkards... but probably more around 99/00 did i REALLY get into it.. yup...

Never really got into house in 93-95,but sorta got exposed 2 jungle, didnt fall in love until 97, 98-2001 were the golden years where so many styles start taking form. Ragga/Hardstep/Darkstep, Techstep,Junlge/hiphop, Junlge/rnb(ey...), Jazzy/LiquidFunk etc... **Really misses KonkreteJungle & Drum n Bassics/La casa/dome

my boy john dada took me to my first massive (edc 99) and i heard d'n'b but preferred hardcore. i didn't end up getting into drum n bass until hearing it again at wake n bake 99 (when i was following this girl around). it was freaky flow and flipside that turned me on to it. after wake n bake, i started hitting up jungle parties like drunk n bass ones in hollywood and ones at the stillwell hotel and i've been going ever since. hardcore was left in the dust..

i first heard it when i lived in Egypt when on an expedition to the congo. i heard some drums in the jungle, and i asked what they were, and my trusty sidekick told me it was jungle music

It's funny, this is the same question I used to hear often in the graffiti scene. For some reason everyone started writing in 89... I just have to laugh at that s**t. Kids who are like 7 years younger than me trying to tell me they started writing in 89. Yeh down ass fetuses

hee hee. it was BOTH! I think in about August of 97 it switched from Thursdays to Weds or vice versa... and then Eklektic came along to Thursdays at Kate O'Briens in October...

it's funny, cause i was also one of those who didn't *know* it was called drum-n-bass in like 94/95 when i started getting the "SPEED LIMIT 140bpm" Compilations...it was Hardcore Techno to me, then my friend Minna who was my only black girl techno buddy, moved to Chicago, she made me some tapes of stuff she heard on the radio and said "They call it drum-n-bass here" so, i thought it was a Chicago thing, hahaha.

Then right before i moved out here i remember finally getting "TIMELESS"
and sitting in a car with my friend Tom and listening to the whole thing. Just sitting there, freaking out, being moved almost to tears by Diane Charlamagne, and just being generally overwhelmed. I was pretty much listening to my future.

When I finally moved here in 1997, it all really clicked because it was the first time I saw a DJ feeling what I felt as a dancer. Coming from Florida I was used to being like one of three on a dancefloor just losing my mind. So to come here, see a whole dancefloor of fools like me and look up [@ Cat's Phunckateck's night there] and see UFO! f**king losing it more than me, it was like, oh ok. I'm home now. I'm never leaving.
