acid house started in ~1985
the firt prototype jungle tracks started appearing around 1988, however you wouldn't call it jungle.
the first real genre-defining tracks started coming out in '90 and '91. |

actually, *ahem*....what happened was people like fabio and grooverider where just basically speeding up hip hop instrumentals and such (anything with a strong breakbeat) to match the techno and house tunes of the day.....eventually it progressed, got faster...... soon they just started producing the tracks with breaks already in them rather than blending tracks together to make the sound |

Jungle emerged from breakbeat techno (just like hardcore), and the origins are very blurry, and came from many different sources with many different influences.... But I can tell you for a fact it wasn't by speeding up hip-hop instrumentals. |

well, first off, learn the history behind 'artcore/jungle tekno before you start trying to call people out......

back in the "summer of love" days, (what, back in 88, 87?, earlier) wayyy be for 'artcore, people like, i.e.:fabio, grooverider, where mixing "acid house"(or whatever similar tempoed beats were runnin at the time) with breakbeats, sped up hip hop breaks, rare groove tracks, etc. to get a new sound, which progressed into what then became 'artcore/jungle tekno/proto jungle...when the ragga came in is when it firmly footed itself into some jungle bizness.
timetable:
88 - acid house
90 - fast tempo breakbeat samples over house tempo kicks
91-92 - ragga elements, techno sounds
late92-93 - jungle
94-95 jungle/jump up/atmospherics
95-96 hardstep/early tech
96-98 techstep
99-00 ? (haha)
late00-03 everything
this is, of course, my own data figures going from what ive observed and whatnot...the sound developed over time by different mediums, eventually people caught on and started producing the new sound that was developing through the underground....its from turntablizm really.... |

Jungle was the original name, but the media/journalists and such thought it sounded racial/racist, so they came up with an alternative~ Drum N Bass, so drum n bass did not give birth to jungle. |

all are up there as are many others out there
True breaks started getting mixed with 4/4, sped up, mc's popped in ... but the real origin of the "term" jungle comes from white kids complaining of the "break" element stating the the music sounded like it was made by "jungle bunnies" and offensuive name for a black person comparable to the "N" word |

my belief is that the jungle lifestyle spawned from the two genres hip hop and punk.
