Re: Dj Rap commericail....

I think it's weak how DJ's work on thier musical skills for years only to go on TV and pretend to be a DJ.

I was once interviewed by the piece of s**t BET's teen summit f**k's (whole nother story) but they asked me if I could just get up on the decks and "fake it" and that their audio guys would "dub in" some skratches.

My reaction: FUCK THAT!!!

hahaha there's a discussion about this in the Sac Junglescene message board too and someone made a good point...She's pretty much already been tryin' to be commercial and she really doesn't have much talent anyways...if that's what she wants to do I say more power to her just as long as she's not draggin' people with talent with her

Re: Dj Rap commericail....

sold out? where she's from shes almost a pop godess. now if R.A.W were reppin on a commercial it would be a different story.

why would a twix commercial make you say shes just NOW selling out?

she's already showed her face on American MTV years back, shes with SONY... wtf ? so what if shes doing twix.. paul oakenfold has a s**tty song with that one s**tty band. and dont say that Jungle is sacred and trance is acceptable for selling out. Cause it's all (the music) being pushed onto the "mainstream" audience. it's been like that for YEARS. when I first saw the prodigy on MTV I was like "f**k theyre selling out".. now Im too tired to give a s**t.

Her taste in opportune moments are off - if shes thinking about getting more exposure. You have a choice in what u do and if your choice is a Twix commerical. hehe. then so be it. but i would wait to endorse something better. if i was in that position.

Re: Dj Rap commericail....

So f**kin what. She did a commercial. Big deal. If ya think she's got talent or none at all that's not the point. The point is she's exposing herself and makin some duckets at the same time. I didn't hear anyone talkin about DJ Phear when he did a Skechers commersial did I? He's got skills like a mofo, but it doesn't meen he's sellin out cause he's on T.V. People are just doin what they gotta do,...don't be so judgemental....sheesh.

Re: Dj Rap commericail....

i dont know what all you people are talking about being a sell out. dont you people listen to dnb and s**t. if she is selling out to the mainstream . what you are saying is she has just sold out to you. and all of you who have seen it on TV. not all people that watch tv are mainstream. now have you ever thought that she was doing it for the underground , and for those who do enjoy her music, and what she does. i mean she doesnt have to play music. but you got to make a living some how. and thats another factor, cuz i know if i was able to get a grip of cash for doing something that i like and do all the time, i would do it and i know you ALL would too.
MUCH RESPECT.

Re: Dj Rap commericail....

I say she sold out, but i dont think that is a bad thing. I think that the moment you take money to hock wares other than your own youve sold out. Plain and simple. But that doesnt mean her skills have diminished or that she doesnt deserve our respect. People get too butt hurt over the whole "sell out" issue. who the f**k cares? You gotta make a living. If an artist starts making s**tty music thats another thing all together.

Re: Dj Rap commericail....

how many of you saying that she "sold out" are actual deejays that have put in many many many years of hard work?

Have you ever been asked to be in a commercial? Like the homie said above it's not selling out it's cashing in. And MAYBE just MAYBE this exposure will get some more kids to BUY drum n bass records, maybe even statestide records and not UK ones. meaning that the scene as a whole will benefit.

If you're so concerned with "keeping it underground" continue t support. who the f**k cares that there are going to be mainstream deejays promoting dnb.
The "underground" will remain underground.

Look at all the other music genres. Fuck, look at hip hop. now every one and thier mother can go to agosh darn nelly show, but how many kids in the midwest, bumpin' dmx out of thier daddy's pick up speakers know about say, Burning Star, or Medusa? That is underground.

thus the same as dnb. quit your bitching about something that has NO affect on your feelings and support of YOUR underground drum n bass scene.

Re: Dj Rap commericail....

naw im in total agreement with the "quit your bitching" statement because thats exactly what it is. The sellout debate is so tired. "You mean I'm not the only one who knows about Living Legends?!? Thats Bulls**t!!!!" Get over yourself please. Maybe its because most individuals want the artists they admire to be as humble as they are, and maybe they want them to be as miserable and struggling as they are. But the fact of the matter is, if you have a check with a 1 followed by a lot of zeros and no decimals staring at you with your name on it, all those principles you believe in might as well be farts in the wind. Cuz thats exactly where they are going.

i agree with almost everything the hommie thepoet said. you people out there that dont like the idea of selling out are intresting. and like poet said we should ne helping out in some way. making not only our dnb scene but anything that comes along with it know. whats better than introducing all this great music to other people. and yeah they are'nt ganna know what its all about at first. but did you when you first started listening to all this music? i dont think so. these new people will catch on just as you did. so i say more power to those who are trying to share this music and scene.

oh yea.

about rap "not being that good"

I used to not like her, the many times i'd seen her i was disapointed in her mixing and track selection.

Though after seeing her at respect last year when it wasn't the tour she was on with D-boy, I was blown away. She was so much fun to watch and she dropped cuts and her mixing was tight. all around a good show.

Re: Dj Rap commericail....

...with compound records and nemesis closing (both of which seem to be a sign of the times), we need all the financial help we can get. If this brings mroe attention and maybe more money to our scene that's great, because pretty soon there might not be a lot left to "save". no money means no new labels, no new releases from new artists, no good record stores, no good events, and djs don't get paid what they deserve. If we have to sacrifice some of the "underground" to keep things progressing, or even alive, maybe it's worth it...? just .02...

Good for her.....

I don't think it will sell out the scene...I think drum n' bass will pretty much remain underground in the scene.....the music may go mainstream sometime, but the parties will always remain true......we won't be seeing a rave happening at the forum or staples center anytime soon because of dj rap doing a twix commercial.

Doing a commercial isnt selling out, I dont even watch TV so if it wasnt for this board i wouldnt have even known.

But I do believe you sell yourself out when you have all these supposed "skills" and they edit in some fake ass cuts that you arent even doing. Maybe that's the way they do things in the industry?

that is the way they do it in the industry, becuase they paid some "in house" person to make that beat so there aren't any royalties they would have to pay in it by taking a dillinja track or something.

Re: Dj Rap commericail....

If she sold out anyone, it's herself, not the scene. I've been working on my music my entire life and I'm not going to join the ranks of Usher to be in a Twix commercial. However, if I understand correctly, it's not her music, and all she's doing is basically modelling. Didn't she do that anyway? Your music should be sacred...otherwise you'll turn up like Moby, where even if you liked "Play" it's not going to mean s**t because those songs already sold you a BMW or something.

Re: Dj Rap commericail....

in case anyone hadn't noticed, the commercial had NOTHING to do with DnB - all it was all about a hottie blonde dj, scratching (or pretending to sctarch on 2 1200's and a djm1000) to lot's of TWIX logos...

the only DnB influence i heard was like a split second of an amen cut

she sold out DnB as much as Phear did for pretending to spin breaks on the Sketchers commercial he did - and besides the only people that would ever even know it was dj rap (and the fact that she is a DnB dj) are DnB headz - anyone in the mainstream wouldn't know her from a pile of raw pork

get a grip!
