Hard atmospheric amens. Less 2-step, sugary liquid funk. More variety in sets (even 1+ hour of the smooth stuff starts to get to me). |

I want to hear some way more eclectic mixes...some people are doing it right, but no one wants to hear obnoxious bass lines for an hour straight. Mix in and out of different styles, throw in some electro and some breaks, even house, anything to keep us guessing. |

Honestly,
In production: more NEW sounds. Stop regergitating all the same samples and start generating some new ones.
In our scene: More local support. The flown in talent is always great, but they never mix quite as good as the hungry locals. The hungry locals are the ones that are really rockin the crowds right now. |

Better and more interesting song structure; as in not relying on the same bass line throughout an entire tune, throw in some key changes and even some time changes. Every stoner likes trippy sound effects (myself included), but a song can't be built around sounds...learn some proper chord progressions. |

I agree with the above about DJ's and producers needing to listen to more diverse music and incorporating it in D&B and jungle.
One of my favorite things about downtempo is that fact. So instead of the slower forms of music, D&B could go for the faster, harder genres and styles. Gritty grimey hip-hop, heavy/thrash/hardcore/death metal, up-tempo jazz and blues, a little international flavor (watch out for those Brazilians!). These are all being done but not as much as I'd like.
The tried old samples can go especially when there are infinite samples to choose from. It is amazing what a sample from a good old movie can do to a song and its ability to convey a theme or message. Culture isn't just about music, but what movies and TV shows the people watch, speeches from influential people, etc... Put it all together to let the world know who were are and what we stand for.
