Re: what do u think about jungle going mainstream?

i dont mind....but....the last 5 or 8 years mainstream has sucked hard. there was a time when mainstream music was actually decent. and now? its all about bigger and better record sales(well its allways been that way....). nobody cares anymore. and i dont think people care about s**t now. its more about image and belonging to a certain group....not just listening because you care.

Re: what do u think about jungle going mainstream?

it won't. pop music needs a pop star. the closest that may happen is justin timberlake doing a song with the think break in it. and even then it will be "timbaland-ized". or maybe some cross over watered down pretty girl being produced by adam f or roni or johnny L will make 2 songs and fade away with other breakthrough dance acts like alice deejay....

Re: what do u think about jungle going mainstream?

Jungle won't ever be mainstream. The simple fact is that the only electronic music that most people will listen to has verse/chorus/verse structure (see: the 80's) and true jungle will never have that.

But while we're on the subject, f**k Justin Timberlake and his "I wish I was black" bulls**t. Listen to Micheal Jackson if you want to hear Micheal Jackson, not that spoiled choir boy.

Re: what do u think about jungle going mainstream?

even when hip hop went main stream, the underground still thrives...

Only dif now is that more people can be supported living strictly off of hip-hop..

I would like for D&B to be able to support more peeps financially, I'm always talkin to house Dj's and they make alot of money spinning house.... Why can't D&B dj's do the same?

Dont get me wrong I love D&B and i'm not about the money, but I hate having D&B be my side interest while I work 8 hour days @ something I have little interest in...

If I could Do D&B 8 hours a day that would rawk but the current state wont allow for that...

drum and bass IS mainstream in the UK and look at all the talent that flocks there. look at how d&b parties are booked, with systems like Valve etc. look at how its respected

that would be a nice change to the backroom s**tty sound bizzness we get over here

i think it would be tight cuz there would be more money in the industry and all the dj's tryin to come up would have a better chance cuz there would be more record companys with the money to sign more people to see what they r made of.

i think it would be tite if jungle was more mainstream. more drum n bass= good. there will always be sell outs and s**t, but if more ppl were into it, then there would be a lot more tite producers and dj's and stuff, rite? or it could turn the scene into total s**t cos then it would be all about the $$. hmm... i dunno... i'm drunk. i'm bored. someone talk to me.

Re: what do u think about jungle going mainstream?

- you know what this topic sucks becuz this s**t is mainstream already. movies, commercials, samples of beat licks heard during radio anouncements, OUTKAST who mtv thinks are pioneers of the art of sylibols at thee fastest possible pace over DNB weak ass beats prolly made by nurse DRE, college football bands... f**k how many remember CURIOUS on groove radio during 97 on a wedsnday that was oooooo my #%#... if it happens let he or she play the roll of what me and BLACKILICOUS despise the most. money changes even the best but not the true musician. look PINKFLOYD... well ROGER WATERS made it main stream with the sickest futuristic melodies during there era... if EIB or RONI SIZE thee one who i think made it clear on mtv in front of that CARSON DALY fag asking him the most rediculous questions, is that DnB is thee most latest unkown sound to come up in society.. in ENGLAND its mainstream but one thing is sure. UK music fans and promoters and artist dont care about making money for doing what they love and thats living through the music not making a liiving off the music... f**k all americans who sell out and use people "sheep" as there tool of advancement towards financial gain. if it goes mainstreams yall like mtv videos and s**t... f**k it we will still be listening and loving this miracle of sientific sound.

Re: what do u think about jungle going mainstream?

I dont see it really becoming "mainstream" here in the U.S. The music is too intense for most people and the roots of DnB culture here stems from the outlaws that made it happen. It might blow up but it wont go pop. The more "underground" the culture is puts more pressure on the artists to not "sell-out."

Re: what do u think about jungle going mainstream?

Agrees w/Teekay

The American music scene has always been about the song, the lyrics, the 3-4 min masterpieces.

Jungle's just a bit harsh for the average folks but you do see traces here or there - some light d&b in car commericals, a track or two in a movie, etc.

My 2 cents....

Man I hope DnB gets bigger. It will open the door for more producers with actual talent. I'm sick of hearing all of these half ass tracks from s**tty producers. That is why DnB was taking a s**t for a while. I would love it if it went mainstream.

Re: what do u think about jungle going mainstream?

people have been talking about dnb going mainstream for years. has it happened yet? it is too fast paced of a genre to really be pop. i mean pop stars live off of one maybe two albums a year. dnb producers have at least a cut a week. it takes dedication to even keep up with whats going on in the music. pop on the other hand is force fed down peoples throats one song at a time in a continuous loop on radio and tv- it's called a rotation, over and over and over, till you can't help but notice it like a drill boring into your brain. to me, dnb is almost mainstream now. i remember when i would tell people i played drum and bass (or jungle) and it would always have to be followed by an explanation of what the music even was. now it seems everyone is an expert on the sound. as stated above, in the uk it is even moreso mainstream, and they have had their big cross over hits, i.e. "hide you", to name one. in comparison to hiphop though, no matter how much cash and major label support there is being waved in front of peoples faces there is still always an underground. we in the dnb field are beyond being totally underground (unheard of) as we once were, so i say embrace the cash, but don't sell your ass.

Re: what do u think about jungle going mainstream?

Will it go mainstream?

By my opinion it already has, a long time ago.
When I first started experiencing DnB, the only place to hear it was at parties and records/mix-tapes and such. Presently jungle can be heard everywhere from commercials and radio intro's (KROQ) to sci-fi network and cartoon network (some of the first to broadcast dnb on American TV).
It has become a common back-ground music to accompany many of modern media's attempts to lower the age of their demographics.

Is this a bad thing?
Hell No!
Although not everything about is good.

I remember the days when all we wanted to do was open the ears and minds of sceptical people who were ignorant to jungle music, we
wanted to spread the music-not restrict it.

Now that our music has gained recognition-we become greedy and defensive?

I realize that often times commercializing it may discredit what we've worked for, but that all depends on how it(the music&culture) is represented.
Of course we are going to always have participants who will be working negatively against this, but what genre of music isn't full of a bunch of money-grubbin',fake-ass,sell-outs, who will do whatever it takes to earn a buck. Society will just have to weed through the s**t to find the purity, just like every form of art before it.

Stay true to your intent and keep it real-the greatness that is DnB will one day be realized by all, whether you like it or not.
