f**k yeah dnb is going back to its ragga roots. I know ragga came from the uk but lately, the majority of s**t from the uk is repetative and f**king boring! I'm down with the north america ragga movement... N2O, Rewind!, Big Cat, General Malice, 16 armed jack, Sound Murderah, Tester Boyyeeeeee!!! That's the good s**t right there!

It can def be said that North American Ragga is at an all time high, but At the same time I think North American Tech is not only at an all time high too, but making a lot of noise worldwide. I'm not sure that Ragga is turning as many heads. Thats not a value judgement its just reality. So yes N.A.R. deserves a lot of credit right now, but lets not start talking CRAZY! *waves both hands*

I'll be damned if I don't think that ragga is great, but the only forward-thinking that's been applied to it went down the drain when crunk vinyl stopped releasing stuff. end of story. Be honest with yourself. What *innovation* do you hear in ragga nowadays?

Lack of innovation doesn't make it bad. BUT, it certainly prevents it from being anything better or MORE than what it is.

tech may not be your style, but at least there's more of an emphasis on forward-thinking and actual PRODUCTION - from selecting your own sounds, to engineering and sound design, to the raw ENERGY and EMOTION it can convey (along with all the other styles of drum and bass that you also seem to consider "dead").

And remember, musical elitism promotes stagnation. It's been said that one is only TRULY dead when he or she cannot appreciate new things any longer.

If you think that only one subgenre of any form of music is the only valid one, then you're in danger of falling into that category.

That being said... Ragga could be so much better if it progressed beyond such a limited range of sounds... all those old a capellas need to be put to rest (they have their place and they are good for what they are, but using something too much really kills it...), and ragga heads need to find new, innovative ragga MCs to do vocal work with (i'm sure some of them do, but more of them need to).

the north american ragga talent i am seeing come up, and that has been around, blows away the competition in the U.K. by far. lets ask ourselves something, would you rather see krinjah battle gen.malice again, or total science, the answer is clear my friend.

I think we may see dnb styles splinter off further, with many styles representing simultaneously. Who says there has to be one style that dominates? Look at other types of electronic music. Is there only one type of house music? Is there only one type of hip hop? no.

Honestly yo,... I've been working on a fresh stateside ragga set (rewind, big cat, .....etc) for 'bout a year and a half now, and I do love it to death. I've been a ragga fan since day one, I mean back when the s**t was like 150 bpm. Although all this recent hype and whatnot is really starting to bother me.

Ya gotta admit though,...times are a' changin' and somethings got to give soon,....I still really love the chill-out sounds that come out of the UK (please don't ever call it "liquid-fonk" around me, that's gotta be the worst f**king name in the world) Has anyone heard any of the new sounds coming out of the Bay Area?? Really innovative stuff,......soundclash isn't going to be the end-all for jungle, but I honestly think it's going to be the "next big thang".......hmmm, back to the drawing board huh?
