Re: protesters...

blaci has a point, the protesters arent gonna change s**t. they can protest all they want against the war and it isnt gonna make president bush pull out of iraq which would make us look really bad and like we r scared of them. most likely if we pulled out now all hell would break loose all over the world. protesters need to just live with the fact that we are at war and there is nothing that is gonna change that untill we f**k up saddam.

my two cents!

Re: protesters...

i'm a hater not a fighter!

that is pretty funny~

you do seem to have a lot of negativity comin' from you on the board~ which doesn't necessarily mean you are like that in person, but it is easy to see how one on here would come to that conclusion~

i agree with not blocking the streets, i think blocking intersections and creating unnecessary traffic is problematic for their cause~ but protesting is a right and a tradition in the US and goes back further than the Boston Tea Party~ protesting is not going to make Bush pull out of Iraq~ but it does force him to consider that there are many Americans that do not support this war~ and that if he hopes to be re-elected he better not go to far to alienate any more Americans~ it lets leaders know the extent of their political efficacy/limits.

So although protesting will definitely not reverse his decisions, it helps influence policy in other ways. Protesting also has the ability to have much more potent influence in more localized issues~ so it is not a lost cause~

Re: protesters...

The point is, if nobody protested, and everybody sat on their couch and didn't pay any attention~ that would be tacit consent to our leaders that they had no political bounds or limits. George Bush might decide, hey~ if no one cares I might as well just invade Lybia, Syria and Iran while I am out there~

Re: protesters...

martin luther and martin luther king jr were protesters they made a huge difference. in fact protesters have such a huge influence on the public that they cause others to think about what is really going on and that its alright to not be lead like sheep. when King Jr began to speak on the vietnam war the government became very upset because he was right and telling the truth. shortly after this great man was assasinated. its quite sad because we all know the huge failure that vietnam was.

Re: protesters...

yeah why protest when a country of 42 million people are getting bombed because of the there leader and oil interests, which will then bring more terrorism back here to our soil and possibly in the very streets we lay down and protest in. Martin luther king didnt change s**t by protesting, neither did Ceasar chavez, or Angela davis or a whole list of others. yeah just stay apathetic and ignorant, that's what bush wants, good job!

Re: protesters...

I am a protester, and I cannot speak for everyone, but in my opinion the point of blocking the street was to show Bush that we are not going to continue with business as usual, and allow him to do whatever the hell he wants. We are going to stop this war, and the only way we are going to do it is by speaking out. I was not one of those who got arrested, but I am very proud of those who dis. I feel it was a very courageous act, and we need more people like them to make a difference. Bush needs to know that we don't agree with this war, and the only way he is going to realize it is by being out there, and speaking out against this war. The whole point of protesting is to get noticed, but not necause we want attention to feel good about ourselves, we want attention so that Bush knows we are not oing to stand by and let him kill millions of innoncent women and children. 48% of the population of Iraq are children. Who is going to fight for them?

Re: protesters...

First of all, is the TV where you get your information from, poor you. Yes they do have an army, but what we have started is a full on massacre. They are a third world country going up the largest superpower in the world. Do you honestly think they have a chance? I know Bush doesn't. Why do you think we are there? And you think the army can stop all the bombs form dropping. you think the army is going to stop the destruction of power plants and water treatment plants that the Iraqi people nee to survive? Bush chose Iraq and not Nroth Korea for a reason. North Korea has the third largest army in the world and nuclear weapons, isn't it strange that we aren't going after them? No instead we are going after a third world country that has no way of defending itself. ANd yes, I do have frineds in the military and I don't think they want to kill women and children. They joined the army cause of the system. There are no jobs in this country and the only thing they could turn to is the military. I am sure though had they known they were going to be sent away to war they would not have chosen to go into the military.

Re: protesters...

couple of points...i protest for many reasons, first off, i feel horrible if this is going on and im not doing something about it. I dislike people who talk and dont act. another reason is because i get a lot of information and beliefs from those things, that has made me the person i am today. and finally, if enough people protest, it can make a difference, so i think that i am just one more person helping out. next point, i feel no ill feelings toward our military, i think that they are just following orders. i disagree with the people giving orders.
