Best Headphones?

I figure for as much time as I spend with my head in the phones, price really shouldn't be an option. It's one of those quality of living issues... I've had the Sony 7700s and they broke, I loved the sound quality but I'm not sure I'd go back down that road... are Sennhauser (sp?) the biggies? Anyone own a pair? Just looking for some opinions... what do you guys have? thanks!

Re: Best Headphones?

if money isn't an option, the high end sennhiesers really are incredible. i prefer the sony studios, however, because i find that wearing the sennheisers for extended periods of time can get uncomfortable on the outer ear (because they "cup" the ear, not cover it). but the sennheiser sounds perfect...just like mini monitors, their bass response is unequalled in my opinion.

Re: Best Headphones?

i forget the model number...i think it's a 300 series or something. check the website...they're the small ones that cup around your ear.

okay. just checked the site. i think it's the HD25. They run about 250-300 dollars, i think.

Re: Best Headphones?

The plus about the senheisers is that any part is replacable, if any part of the headphone breaks, u can order the part again and replace it. They do have a good sound quality but, personally i find that they are not as easy to manuver around my head as the sony 700's.

The sony 700's are what i use personally, but i find a lot of people telling me that they have blown out a speaker in the headphones. The fact of the matter is that the speakers in the sony 700's are identical to the speakers in the sony studio headphones, the 200 dollar 900's. The difference between tthe two is that the 700's are designed with a harder shell to be taken all around and bang into stuff while the studio versions are made for comfort over an extended time. But you are more likely to break the structure of the studio headphones. And the studio headphones arnt as easy to manipulate.

One of the best things to do to keep your headphones working in proper order is to always turn down your headphone volume when u turn off ur mixer. Most problems i have seen are due to people starting off their mixer with a record already playing, when that happens the speaker goes from inactive to active so quickly damage can occur depending on how loud the speaker is. You can generally push your speakers more if u gradually increase the volume then if you go from 0 to loud in a split second, that initial jolt is generally what will blow your speaker, and that goes for your monitors as well.

I know a lot of people who turn up there headphones loud as all hell, and you dont need to do that. Its bad for the headphones and for your ears. You jus gotta hear it, you dont have to feel it, thats what the loudspeakers are for.

My reviews in general

Senheiser- Very good quality, easy to fix, great sound. But the head band is usually not flexable and it makes it difficult to move the headphones around your head.
I give them a B.

Technics- Try to copy the sonys, but they have a smaller space for the ears so they can start to make the earlobe sensitive after a while. Good sound, but the feel isnt as nice. C+

Pioneer- Well pioneer actually runs technic. If you didnt know Technic and pioneer are tied together. Same attributes as the technic headphons. C+

AKG- Very cool looking, bad ass sound. Very uncomfortable. C

Sony- Heavy, most definetly, but great sound quality, very easy to manipulate, and durable if you treat them right. And lets not forget, u get a cool lil baggy to keep em in when u get them. If you want something light and comfy then the studio's are nice, but you are more likely to blow them because they dont keep external sounds out as well so you will find yourself turning them up louder then u need to compensate. A

There are some other brands but i dont deem them on the same level, there are some that blow these away but they are expensive as all hell and i wouldnt take them djing. This is jus my opinon, not cold hard fact. I know a lot of good dj's that have all these types of headphones, thats not what makes a dj. All of them work, they are just different accessories. Choose the one that works best for you.

Re: Best Headphones?

I'd go w/ the Sennheisers...the HD25. I've blown way too many Sony headphones over the years and I don't think I will shell out good money anymore for their headphones. Check out

Super cheap price on the HD25...just make sure that if you go for the Sennheisers, that they are the HD25 and not HD25SP.

BTW....TRYST:

Pioneer does not run Technics....Technics is a division of Panasonic who's parent company is Matsus**ta Electric Insdustrial Co.,Ltd.

Re: Best Headphones?

radio shack has a model called Pro 35's that have a 15-25,000 hz freq response for $40, sometimes on half price! there is no deal that comes close to that for home production. At a party, i dunno, they aren't enclosing over the ears like sonys, but i recommend them. Titanium diaphrams

Re: Best Headphones?

Thanks for all the help guys!

So ... HD25s and HD580s... both about the same price. Grudge match? Who wins? The 25s appear to be geared more towards mixing and the 580s more studio and classical (?) music, but the reviews I've read call them the best. I just want this to be my last headphone purchase for a long time so want to do it right.

thanks again!

Re: Best Headphones?

I like the PIONEERs. I have had mine for about five years now, and they are still holding strong. The padding is flat as a pancake, but they still work, and they have been abuuuuussssedd. MC'd on, used all night, dropped, the whole shabang. And, they have good sound quality, thet doesn't hurt your ears.
