Re: Would you buy these records?
Well I can't actual say what stores we supply (unethical and all that crap)-but I can tell you that a lot of these titles will be available in some fine stores on Melrose Blvd. as well as other local Southern Cali. (LA&OC) mom and pops shop. We also supply most of the bigger chains but they usually only buy what is desired by the masses and that's usually/mostly Trance and crossover stuff. We supply the whole nation so it's much bigger that just our local scene.
If you don't think your local shop is bringin the heat tell them to get a hold of Sean at Phantom, chances are most of the local shops already have accounts set-up with our sales reps.
Overall though our Southern California mom & pop "Dance" record stores are full of good music, so turn off Kazaa, get the hell off the internet for a couple hours and go buy some new music.
Somewhere there is a record shop owner crying because he is sick of Top Ramen and government cheese and even though he has been trying his hardest to offer the newest release all people want to buy from him are CD-Rs. |

Re: Would you buy these records?
word i have a lot of those titles and they just sit. but i am wondering if its because the u.s. is not feeling the diversity of dnb that is now happening in the uk. when i go out i dont here a lot of djs play variety at all. thats why i am prmoting myself so hard. all of those tracks are dope but i never hear anyone play them. i have to tell people whats hot in my store its really sad.
dnb could get even bigger but the djs need to start playing a larger variety the pigeonholing has got to stop..for real

Re: Would you buy these records?
i dont think it's pigeonholing honestly... just a lack of education and information. people will buy ram and dillinja all day because that's all they really know. |

Re: Would you buy these records?
wow i see the opposite people not buying dillinja and ram cause its too 'party style' and alot of heads are scared to play the liquid funk stuff too. this is just my observation to what gets played and what is bought. |

Re: Would you buy these records?
I hear you fellas I hear you so clear it makes my ears hurt. Most buyers just follow the heards and buy s**t because of the reputation/past of the artist or label. All day long I try to supply people with fresh s**t and they just want me to tell them what to buy-I'm like s**t man I 'm more than willing to give suggestions but it's your shop, you should be running it not me, you know your customers not me, your on the payroll not me. You know?
We have a great support for Stateside DnB at our local parties and honestly I love that, but it kinda sucks when your trying to make a living off of Import Music. I am so down for our stateside talent but I do think peeps are starting to abandon the UK stylees and some of the artists brought that upon themselves because they're still using the same played drum kits and reprossesing the same cookie-cutter s**t that made them famous back in 96. I also think many Yanks are turning their backs on UK Jungle because they feel like we are in competition to create a scene that parallels there's, but that's not true we have our own s**t and we need to recognize our unique sounds and run with it.
We all have to realize that there is some innovative and revolutionary DnB pumping out of the UK, but it is being clouded by the Pop/Crossover thang.
There is still great music being created daily, we just have to do our homework and chase that s**t down.
All right I'll stop ranting and...err raving. This has been a public service announcement from a frustrated guy in a harsh industy. But at the end of the day when I go home and drop my needle on a record-it' all worth it.
Keep riding them basslines and breaking them beats. |

Re: Would you buy these records?
hey but thats what i want mo crossover! naw but seriously i got my girl into dnb through shy fx's 'don't wanna' that s**t sounds like beyonce on dnb its sooo phat! i dont mind the same sounds as long as the concept is different kinda like the neptunes or timbaland. there are some banging tracks out right now that walk that fine line between heavy and catchy. these songs come to mind...
heartless crew 'why?' shy fx rmx
joe payne 'watch yo back' keaton rmx
by design 'dilemma' (ald, ori, tr rmx)
p. monch 'f**k you' dist minds rmx
aaliyah-rock the boat' clipz rmx
and the list can go on and on. i have been testing this out with those who don't really like dnb and i have been getting an excellent response from hip hop heads and rnb girlies. dont be afraid yall. play diff styles no one will hate you or think ur gay (the homophobia can stay with the reggae culture). weeeerd |
