*This mix was recorded live at the Vibeflow studios on 2/21/04. Everything is live from the mixing to the mc'n. DJ Whizard is no stranger to the drum n bass scene in Southern California as one of the founding members of the Magnetik Space Lab crew and the host of the only running drum n bass show on UCLA Radio (www.uclaradio.com). Whizard brings his tight mixing skills and energetic flavor to this mix. Even fighting a wick'd cold (sars?) that left him seriously dehydrated toward the end of the mix, Whizard toughed it out to lay down a classic mix of gangster bizness that starts off bouncy, and works its way harder with each track. XYZ has solidified himself as one of the top MCs on the west coast by his performances with many of the top drum n bass DJs. In top form at live shows this effort gives a nice glimpse of his style, lyrics, playful behavior and sheer joy of musically contributing to a set. Dutchess MC makes her debut on this CD. Having a vocal range that spans the scales and an infectious energy, this was her first time live on a CD, look for good things from her in the future. FYI on the mic levels for Dutchess, we had to plug into the mixxer (which i hate) and so instead of having 2 mics, each EQ'd to suit our different voices and ranges (obviously my voice is deeper with more bass), after i would rhyme i would have to try and EQ her's on the fly. |
