Re: Speakers Photoshop Brushes
Thanks for the post, its a nice kit. My only fear is that in 2-3 weeks we will see them on 50% of the flyers on this site. Photoshop brushes are like plutonium, in the wrong hands they are extremely dangerous. While there is a benefit to having artistic brushes for small details, there are to many designers who make generic illustrator and photoshop brush flyers. To anyone else downloading these... be original... the fastest way to make your s**t look generic is to use the same tools in the same way as everyone else.
with graphic power comes graphic responsibility.

Re: Speakers Photoshop Brushes
Plutonium.. I just love the sound of that word, it's so much fun to say... Plutonium.
Yea, I feel you about genericness. However, even with generic tools and brushes you can still be creative.
AND... Sometimes a client isn't paying me enough to create everything from scratch. I guess it depends on the type of person you are. I'm definitely more a business man than an artist these days.
Like for example Pete G, he wants to pay a designer $75 per flyer. My hourly rate is $75, and I don't know about you, but it takes me longer to make a flyer than an hour, so in a situation like that, I would use found and free brushes.
I dunno, my opinion I suppose...

Re: Speakers Photoshop Brushes
good opinion... hahaha
I agree, like i said, there is a way to use these tools originally. A paint brush in the hand of an infant isnt going to get you a flyer, but in the hands of a bad designer...youll get a bad flyer. We all need to pay the rent and the idea that pandering to a budget in the name of saving time definently happens. Somtimes tho, i have no ability to censor myself... bad business when a 100 dollar job looks like 300 dollar job. Thats something I've learned about over time, its not a bad thing to make people want to pay more for quality. Technics would be out of business if they put out a 600 that was as good as a 1200 at half the cost.
Final note on cheap flyers, I think theres a quality way to do it, sure i might not tweak as much on kearning and s**t, but by establishing a grid and using some original photos you can make quality work in shorter time. |

Re: Speakers Photoshop Brushes
I'm not takin a stab at Pete G but promoters in general, in my opinion, for $75 you get a $75 flier,...problem is, in most cases the flier looks extremely weak, therefore not attracting punters, therefore the promoters not getting paid, therefore the whole night goes down the drain.
Its a vicious cycle. |

Re: Speakers Photoshop Brushes
Good points aero.
Yea there are plenty of times when I spend more time on a design than I'm being paid for, sometimes I can't help myself. It really depends on who the client is, who the target audience will be. And sometimes some clients are really happy with something so simple.
And yea, I wasn't taking a stab at Pete either, I was just using an example from this forum. I totally understand budgets are low sometimes. It happens. I don't wanna sound like I'm doggin on him or anything. |
