Re: Breakdown of Modern Web Design
honestly its not that bad if you know the hacks and how to use alternate style sheets for IE7. !important for IE6.
I've been doing a bunch of cross-browser compatiblity CSS over the last 6 months and I've got it down pat. It just takes practice.
=]
I used to not even care how stuff looked in other browsers, but the clients do care and a bunch of my clients want me to do the CSS / XHTML development as well as the back end programming so I do.

Re: Breakdown of Modern Web Design
My XHTML 1.0 Strict-fu will defeat your XHTML 1.0 Transitional technique any day!
Srsly, I have reached a Zen-like state with this s**t. Now I'm all about mastering the big JS frameworks like jQuery and script.aculo.us. |

Re: Breakdown of Modern Web Design
LOL.
Get ready for XHTML 2.0 and HTML 5. They are coming soon.
jQuery and Scriptalicious are pretty bad ass. There is also mooTools which are really nice as well.
I just discovered ext JS as well, and I am throughly impressed with that. You can check it out at: http://extjs.com/
Overall I'm pretty good at getting things straight, but I do encounter small little problems here and there which can lead to me cursing at IE. |

Re: Breakdown of Modern Web Design
The good news is that the IE6 market share is only going to get smaller from here on out, especially in light of M$ forcing an update to IE7 via Windows Update...I have IE6 running on my desktop for testing purposes but have already moved my laptop to IE7 - it is definitely way closer to a standards-compliant browser than IE6, but of course what would an M$ browser be without quirks?
I saw some of the working drafts for XHTML2/HTML5, and there's going to be some cool stuff coming down the pipe...
http://www.w3.org/TR/html5-diff/
Highlights:
- Lots more semantic tags: section, article, header, nav, etc.
- multimedia api's!!! audio and video tags that allow developers to create native media controls in the document
- new form elements, like date and time
- frames/ifreames are finally fully deprecated and not even present in HTML5
- all text style tags are gone, replaced by CSS
Basically, all these changes and more are turning HTML into a framework suitable for developing fully-functional applications that can store and manipulate data across a variety of platforms.

Re: Breakdown of Modern Web Design
Lol, but that would require restarting my machine. And that never happens. My poor computer almost never is turned off, or gets restarted. Maybe twice a month..maybe.

Re: Breakdown of Modern Web Design
nah parallels doesn't require restarting your machine at all, it is a virtual machine, like vmware. =] |
