so ill, especially considering the disney sponsored wall at melrose and la brea. Disney has been commissioning artists to do that spot for years, seen sponsored pieces by mear, fafi, and that wack toy buffmonster. as i recall 'sever' went over the butt monster piece within a couple days. strong visual statement that will get noticed by graff heads and everyday passer bys.

cause hes disprespectfull and unoriginal... just my opinion (and most street artists//graffheads). i think his art is all a direct bite of old dalek space monkeys. he just made the ears into boobs. i believe hes done a successfull job of creating an image that people buy because they are unaware of all its blatant borrowed influences. |

I can most definitely see how hard street graf writers feel this way.
Buff is more 'TOY' art (in my opinion) I like his stuff, just like i like Daleks older stuff. I think they both have a place and are unique in there own way. Good for any urban art collector. Plus Buff is a really good, shy guy.

I don't judge when it comes to this type of art, it just istn't that simple, they are all good in their own way and if they can make $$$ of it, then more power to them.

He himself claimed to be a 'street artist' and then proceeded to diss many infamous writers in the same paragraph. now that hes doing some appropriated pop art that looks just like everything else, hes becominga minor celebrity in these kitch subcultures. He's like frank kozic, give him enough time and his ego will cause him to alienate another genre.
its like the pendulum arguement, there are 2 sides that may never agree about anything, but to me as a person who values fine art, design, graf, toys and theory in general... buff is garbage. |

heres the article, took me a minute to find. this is a blog by revok basicly stating the beef. Graf writers arent always the most diplomatic people when it comes to conflict resolution, but these guys are protecting the art form that the help to progress.

on the other topic, i really like some of Sam flores' work. Hes a talented illustrator who does some really interesting work. not feeling all the asian influence stuff, but i saw a painting of a rooster in juxtapoz he did that was f**kin dope! |

especially ones that are n the spot light, but as they claim to come from a medium I am very familiar with...
I think both dalek and buffy have painted themselves into the one trick pony category..

space monkey on acid style...not a big fan but its different.
i have daleks old work and im a big fan, but i havent really wanted to buy too much recently. with dalek, i dont have as much of a problem. dalek made a name in graf, transitioned over and has created a memorable charachter, buff just bites from people like dalek as though it were some formula...which it kinda is. either way, i really object to buff monsters blatant ignorance and ego. |
