Re: any of you into silk screening?
after a while of actually doing it, and learning from mistakes, it gets easy.
we've done the "dirty deeds" "dk logo" shirts, as well as the "temple of boom" shirts. plus a few other micro-runs.
if any one is interested in getting shirts made, hollla.

Re: any of you into silk screening?
How does someone get into silk printing? Isn’t the equipment really expensive? Is there anyone that has the equipment at their house or a shop that will rent you time.. I’ve love to make some shirts, but I’m poor… like most junglists.

Re: any of you into silk screening?
its simple as s**t, just doing big runs suck.
you need a screen, a way of burning your image into the screen, a way of making a hinge/press for your screen onto whatever you want the image screened on, ink, and a squeegee.
you can ghetto rig up stuff for under 100 bucks. |

Re: any of you into silk screening?
bnj,
a really good way to start is by cutting stencils... if give you an idea of how silkscreening really works...
once you get board w/ that... go down to your local art store and pick up a kit...
pretty simple
hit me up if you'd like some ideas |

Re: any of you into silk screening?
When living in O'Side I worked for a silk-screening company for about a year and a half. It was an interesting experience with our boss being a shady f**k who rarely handed out good checks. But overall, it was fun. We mainly printed for Camp Pendleton and smaller businesses, but once in a while had smaller start-up clothing labels do runs. Those were cool cuz somehow I'd always end up with a shirt or two of my own.
The equipment can get really pricey, but that's mainly if you're doing large runs and getting into multi-color wheels. I think we only had an 8-8 which wasn't too bad to use. Our designer was way under-paid and under-appreciated (as usual). I could always tell when he did the separations and when our boss did them. You have to be really accurate to get a good print and it all starts with the separations.
If you're into it, look at the stores above for equipment and give it a shot. To start you really only need the basics. A flash unit and a small belt heater never hurt, though! |

Re: any of you into silk screening?
There are silk screening kits online for about $100-$150. for starters. I would check some books out or go online and get tips on design and registration of color before so you start. Just so you don't make a huge mess- even though it's the fun part. Practice on paper... |
