Re: decent brushes for ink?

i like the winsor newton series 7, they work great for a long time (longer than most). I use them for hand lettering and the lines are solid and it holds the ink ok (i think its a oil/acrylic brush but the hair is great for ink too). Also they clean pretty easy, i would go between white and black ink without any sort of gray holding on.

Re: decent brushes for ink?

have you had problems with cleaning with turpentine? i used a generic ink cleaning solution thing, ... it doesnt work too well.

Re: decent brushes for ink?

i dont like turpentine, i use the turpenoid natural cause it seems to be slightly less harsh (its probly in my head). When i worked ath the art store we had brushes we had for demos and i found that the best combo for preservation was turpenoid natural and a brush conditioner at the end. when youre using oils and inks the conditioner is actually good because they are alot more de hydrating than things like gouache or acrylic.

side note* i hate cleaning brushes, alot of the time i just use the cheap stuff so i dont have to worry about the cleaning as much, but then I have a stash of 6-7 good brushes for the details that i treat with respect. its definently worth investing in a couple of good brushes.

Re: decent brushes for ink?

i use cheap brushes too. the older, crustier and crappier the better imo. i like using twigs too. someone suggested using a sable brush... i hated it.

as for painting, like anything else... just do it. play. explore. learn.
