Re: job opportunity EXPERIENCE needed
I'm so curious about the quark thing... most people I talk to use indesign as a standard program and most schools dont even teach quark anymore. Is it a choice by the company or is it something you come across. I guess some people still use light tabels if they are comfortable or unwilling to learn new programs, but I'm curious about how many people in the industry still use quark. I have limited quark experience but have found indesign to be much more user friendly in my experiences. Obviously it's good to know as much as possible, but theres no sence in learning corel draw at this point...

Re: job opportunity EXPERIENCE needed
in design is becoming more popular but quark has been the standard for soo long that most agencies find it tuff to switch over. more so than anything it's b/c of the vendors (printers). some of our printers don't even have illustrator cs. they make us lay out all the dvd face labels in v.9. anyhow, it is very common for most of the new employees or freelancers we try out in-house to be used to in design. i always hear the same thing everytime we get a new person in here..."ohh u guys still use quark? u should try in design..." |

Re: job opportunity EXPERIENCE needed
indesign is not all that, really. but both programs work equally well and you should really know both if you're going to do print work. my firm is in the process of trying out both and its causing havoc as far as learning curve and time spent switching between programs.
i tend to find that quark is better with exact positioning and type placement is much faster and easier. indesign has nice built in features similar to illustrator and photoshop, but as far as placement in layouts it is clunky. |

Re: job opportunity EXPERIENCE needed
yea in all honesty, quark runs great and does what we need it to do. there's really no reason to switch but like i said, it's really b/c our vendors require it. it seems to me that junior designers are more accustomed to in design now bc thats what they're teaching in schools. |
