Re: wheat pasting....
I would imagine not getting arrested but getting a ticket.
I dont remember exactly, but friends of mine got off with only warnings
(in hollywood) But the policy metioned to them by cops was that they could've been fined for posting that stuff.
I dont think the cops look at it like if its vandalism (i.e. graffitti, breaking windows, etc...) So they just let them go.

Re: wheat pasting....
If it is illegal and grounds for citation, how is it that you see major corners covered with legitimate company wheat pastings? Itunes seems to be a major player in this game, so wouldn't they, too, be subject to fines? |

Re: wheat pasting....

Re: wheat pasting....
first off, wheat pasting got played a couple years ago, if youre not taking a progressive banksy type of mixed-media approach, you should probably not waste time, the LA artist community kinda frowns on it and graffiti artists haaaate it, not like its rebelious, more like its kinda chumpy...
but...
if you have an idea that must be manifested, then watch out... A few years back I was half of a posting crew with a street artist buddy of mine named TOFER(www.christopherchin.com or www.kingtofer.com), the 2 of us posted nearly 500 posters over the course of 3-4 months. In that time I was detained nuuuumerous times, but was not ticketed or arrested, the truth is that we just were reeeeallly lucky, as it isnt uncommon to get tickets.
As far as the people who post legitimately for advetising purposes they pay good money for space in LA... you know why people write 'post no bills' on buildings...? its because that space is reserved for paying clientelle.
but seriously, posters are cheese...unless its something new... |

Re: wheat pasting....
i haven't wheatpasted in so long... i miss it. chicago is so damn clean. selling spray paint is illegal here. i want to mix wheatpasting with stencils on top of that.
i got so f**kin' sick of shepard fairey. same s**t f**kin' everywhere. that's my complaint about most artists, they do the same thing over and over again. same character. same schtick. show me something new! all you draw are pandas? you know how to use steamline? wow. tofer. buffmonster. *yawn*
we need more people like banksy.
i just made my posters at kinkos. nothing fancy. i think the cheap bond paper works cuz it soaks up the paste.
i stop using actual wheatpaste though. it was such a bitch to mix with all the lumps from the powder. i even used a whisk. i just get wallpaper adhesive. |

Re: wheat pasting....
heh, i agree at this point ...but it was fun before half of LA followed suit. not to say tofer was the originator(far from it) but there was big spike in box pasting.

Re: wheat pasting....
i respect tofer. i just want to see more work. i've seen his stuff in the galleries, (like all those egg things). i just want to see them on the streets.
i just wish i had a crew / army to do my dirty work. but i really wouldn't have it any other way. it's my work, i'll do it. it's crazy that someone has f**kin' sheep, er i mean followers who "obey." haha. i hear some pay people to do their s**t. whack.
some promoter (non-dnb) wanted me to wheatpaste for his club. i'm like "f**k no."
about that site - there's some good points. i totally agree about the vinyl toys and painting on shoes. lame. clothing lines. fancy schmancy art shows. yeah, man, that's keepin' it real. |

Re: wheat pasting....
now a days, like 90% of it is pretty lame, but theres still some cool sticker/poster stuff being done.
if any of you are into graff, what are you views on slap tags then? i used to do ALOT of those, but then i noticed theyd all be missing so i got really paranoid someone was following me around hahahaha |

Re: wheat pasting....
slap tags are cool, as long as that isn't your only medium. as far as graffiti goes if you don't paint your not a writer.
and as far as wheat paste goes... I like some random ones I've seen in europe... they were hand painted and then cut out and then pasted. Otherwise I don't wnat to see any more silly faces... no tofer, no andre, no london police, no obey, no buff monster, no siez, no ralf machio, no catace(meow)!!!! that s**t blows its time to expand on posters and wheat paste as a medium....
oh and if you are a none white person. count on a vandalism charge, specially in those nice neighborhoods... |
