Re: Pendulum Dubstep?

from getdarker.com:
have to say i agree...
Pendulum, the famous Drum & Bass group who are infamous for their live performances and “underground fan base” recently released an album titled In Silico which features a track called “The Other Side”. Like most popular tracks, a clock ticks before someone thinks it is a wise idea to do a remix, but unfortunately Pendulum decided to remix it themselves.
Not sure what exact style the remix is as it's quite borderline but alot of people class it as Dubstep because it has a slight “Rusko-esque” to it but then it is pretty much a breaks tune really. Pendulum have made some very good tracks in the past, but this remixed tune armed with the waste vocal is a disaster.
I guess the main concern is Pendulum producing rubbish Dubstep and their fan base and people somewhat associated with Pendulum gradually getting the wrong impression of what Dubstep really is. Sounds a bit of a contradiction considering there is not a formula for Dubstep as we have been blessed because everything pretty much goes but that remix, definately doesn't. I don't think I would be the only one to agree that the “dubstep mix” needs to be replaced with something more fitting and not trying to promote themselves as something they obviously arent.
A Dubstepforum member wooda916 made the perfect statement by looking into the future; “So you like Dubstep?”, “Yeah, like Pendulum?”.
The more I listen to this sample the more I pick up Benga influences and Night similarities. What makes it far worse and insulting is that it is actually going to be released as a B side to the original.
I hope you can understand why we used the image of a woman from a 50's flick screaming. That's atleast a true representation of their current sound. |

Re: Pendulum Dubstep?
It was just a matter of time how many popular acts outthere dropped jungles remixes around 1996-98. Too many to list and most where rubish. Dubstep is becoming a broad base movement. I know soldiers from venezuela , brazil, australia, south africa just to name a few. The more popular it becomes the more junk tracks we will hear. All this tells us that DUBSTEP is here to stay the best complement is to be copied. |

Re: Pendulum Dubstep?
I don't think there's anything wrong with Pendulum doing dubstep. Good tunes are good tunes no matter who wrote them, and likewise with utterly s**t tunes.
(I haven't listened BTW, so I don't know which category this one falls into. LOL.) |

Re: Pendulum Dubstep?
I don't think there's anything wrong with him doing Dubstep.. But I really don't care for this track.. That front sound s is a lil annoying. If that sound was changed and less abrasive.. id be down
(sorry if you don't get what I'm saying.. I don't produce.. But I know how to listen) |

Re: Pendulum Dubstep?
a friend bought a pendulum cd this weekend @ amoeba, I forgot the title but it's the "rock" album..
one of the tunes, had a very dubstep sounding break...so I didn't think it was far off when I saw and posted this..
but more power to them...I'd love to see a massive dubstep anthem come out of them |

Re: Pendulum Dubstep?
I prefer Rusko's dubbier stuff, but I like many of his bangers as well. Not everyone creams over every new Rusko release though. I do disagree with what I took to be the thrust of that getdarker article however, one release isn't gonna cripple a whole style of music. If you don't like a tune, don't play it. For me the beautiful thing about dubstep is the wide variety of sounds on offer. |
