very neat they are bringing you kids to hawaii.. just moved back from there and for various reasons i was a little frustrated with how subphonix runs their stuff. I was just living in hawaii for the summer and of course wanted to help out any sort of drum and bass anything - but they were entirely unresponsive. anyhow.. nice people.. just an interesting way of running things, so i stopped going to the shows out there. |

the music at mercury bar on friday was pretty ill but i must say that spot really makes me miss the LA scene. its just not the same in honolulu. does anyone know about any secret jungle spots on oahu that i jsut might not have heard about? |

The only island there is any kind of drum & bass scene is Oahu! No D&B on the Big Island. No D&B on Maui. No D&B on Kauai, and definitely no D&B on the smaller islands. And it is pretty lucky that there people dedicated enough in Oahu to make things happen, and bring people out --- because there aren't a whole lot of junglists, they are building the scene from the ground up.
They all have busy lives outside drum & bass including school and working full time, so - if they weren't responsive enough to someone who wanted to help out for the summer, I wouldn't take it personal, they were probably just busy.
Outside of a few crews like Subphonix (Pacific Jungle) and Amplify (Audiolab), there is very little to no jungle happening at all. The occasional DJ or show here and there, but there would be no scene at all. So, not really any secret jungle shows happening, lol.
We are very lucky here in LA to have such a vibrant an amazing scene, so we get a little spoiled (and take it for granted) - but go around the country and things are just not the same. Hawaii's scene in that respect is actually pretty banging (when compared to many other big cities around the country).
The best way you could have helped out, is just to show up at the shows, and pay the door price - that way they can keep the shows going, cultivating local talent and bringing in talent from around the globe.

That being said, both those nites me and Circuit played at were murderation, good crowds and a super thick vibe loving every second of it. Better than many of the shows I have played in LA recently - s**t was banging! I have to give it up to all the heads that came and danced their asses off!
