Nastiest Food You've Eaten
Inspired by the unknown life form thread. Tak brought up an Asian delicacy called Balut. It's an egg that's almost about to hatch so most of the chicken is formed and people cook and eat it.
While that's pretty gross, what are some of the things you've tried in different countries that were pretty gross or what you thought was inedible.
I have two from when I lived in Alaska. One is mucktuck which is whale blubber raw. It tasted like fishy rubber. The other is what is called "stink flip. It's whale flipper that's been fermented in blood underground for several months. Eskimos would actually get a mild hallucination from eating a bunch of it. Straight Nasty.

I think there's stuff that we consider strange but could be completely delicious. I'm not opposed to trying stuff, just don't be offended if I vomit haha.
Oh another good one is Habu sake. I was in Okinawa and it's sake that has a poisonous snake chillin in the bottom dead. Tasted like gross sake nonetheless.
And in Sydney I had to try Vegimite. It tasted like salty paste, I didn't get why they love it so much

not sure of the spelling on this one, filipino dish, dineguan....pig blood soup...whoa.
the other was a halibut i had in germany. i swear they grabbed it out of the river, slapped it on a rock, then served it up on a plate to me. the eye was still blinking while i carnivored away on it....to the tune of 1 bite give me my liter of beer i'm dong. |

Uni aka Sea Urchin. Can be found at most sushi joints. Dont understand why some people go ape s**t for it. It was like eating a giant rubbery saltwater tasting slug that just slithered down your throat. Yuck.
Escargo is bomb though. |

I came into this thread to post about Uni. I LOVE seafood and damn near all of it (octopus, all fish, shrimp, shark, ect ect)... I tried Uni a few years ago and almost crapped my pants it was so disgusting. Reminded me of a gross mashed up seafood vomit toothpaste that you eat.

Hahaha! I had Uni w/ a Quail Egg on top my first time eating Sushi... my Sister dared that I wouldn't do it. Definitely an aquired taste...

Went to a Thai place years ago and had some dish with a sauce that tasted like blood, only tangier. Nasty.
Similarly, in high school the resident crazy Iranian chick cooked up something for world culture day that had an overpoweringly tangy lemon-type thing in it. I've never understood why the middle east likes their lemons so god damn strong but I couldn't eat more than a few bites. |

Balut and dineguaan is bomb. Grew up on that stuff. Moved here from the Philippines when I was 14. And ya, almost hatched duck egg and pig blood stew. It's really awesome. No lie! |

well lets see here my country ass has eatn some nasty s**t... softshell turtle/ squirel/ aligator ( which is actually really good) frog legs/ an assortment of different birds/ snakes/ raw deer heart ( its a ritual after you shoot your first deer) maybe some more idk have to think about it... |

Shark Fin Soup = yummY
Habu Sake x3 shots = don't expect to work in the morning, cuz ur bloodstream still has poison from the snake runnin thru ur veins, LOL.
In Taiwan i accidentally had sewer rat. No joke. Slightly bigger than a chihuahua...mMmmMmMmm~ Chihuahua...yumMmMm~
In the Philippines, my uncles thought it would be funny to have their nephew (me) at the age of 10, have some dog. It was a mutt. I had no clue. I liked it. Then they told me what it was. I started to tear, then realized it just kinda tasted like chicken, just a lil more tougher. I love chicken. Whenever i have chicken, i have a flashback about once in every 20 times i'm at the drive-thru at Popeye's. |

Nobody mentioned menudo. It tastes great and abuela makes it bomb, but If you think about it, it's pretty nasty. Tripe-lower intestine and stomach lining.

true- i've had menudo, tiz bomb. as is caviar and escargo (when prepared correctly). buffaloes taste like cows, kangaroo taste like a bland/dry version of moocows, and rabbit taste like a more sweet version chicken.
but when it comes to 4/5 matured bird, or moose testicles..i think ill trust my judgement and pass.

My dad used to do systems admin for an online gourmet food retailer. We had ostrich burgers and snake for 4th of July one year. The ostrich wasn't too bad and the snake did taste like poultry even though it looked like chopped tube meat. |

a south african buddy of mine in seattle tricked a bunch of us at a party once gave us some biltong jerkey he brought back from SA and after everyone ate it hes like ha you just ate antelope penis!
it was still good though. despite the fact it was weenis. =-\
i jus looked up biltong on the web, and none of the recipes i saw use antelope dong so he coulda been f**kin with us...never know though.
