do you still use myspace?

I never have, so I'm not "hip" nor "in the know"

but what about you? do you still use myspace? what do you use it for? how does it help you... professionally / personally / socially?

do you also use facebook? linkedin?

I use myspace to keep up with old friends. I have two actually, one with my maiden name and one wit my married name.

It helps me personally because I can find friends.

I have a facebook, but I think it sucks. Again, I only use it to find old friends.

believe it or not I'm finding awesome music on myspace.

i think that the notion that it's "played out" here, doesn't necessarily mean it's like that to a kid in Glasgow making chip tunes.

yeah i will say myspace has done a good job of getting musicians to put their music up. the interface is crap though

I have three myspace accounts - a personal, one for drum and bass, and one for my downtempo album. I don't use any of them that much anymore.

I used to be more enamored with Myspace when I was more of a socialite, and in general when it was less desperate with the advertising and content - as soon as Fox bought it, it got overrun with commercial stuff that detracted critically from the convenience and community it used to have.

Now it's an info farm for Fox to serve you ads. Barf. That's why I don't put what music or movies I like on there anymore.

I actually don't use it as much as I once did...but I still get hit up by artists in UK, Canada, Asia wanting to come to Vegas to play. I've booked many people through myspace and I have to tip my hat to them guys. It's def. a cool site. but again I'm not glued to it like I once was

I find facebook harder to navigate, search for specific friends, photo areas lack something to be desired.

I think myspace is easier to use. And I hear what Andy said about the ads, but I just use Ad Blocker Plus with Firefox and I don't see anything I don't want to. Its nice.

hmm interesting, i have the exact opposite opinion about user interface and ease of use. perhaps it is easier because you've been using myspace for years?

^^ maybe.. i agree with thepoet tho.. i loathe facebook.. i hate the layout and all the stupid apps you gotta dl and throw in and the whole first name last name bs.. its a little TOO personal for my taste.

myspace is a lot easier to use, for me anyway.

I check myspace from time to time because some of my high school and college friends are only on it. My 10-year highschool reunion is being organized through Myspace since it was so easy to track down most of the alumni through it.

I'm also on Facebook, I do find the app invites annoying but I block most of them.

I joined LinkedIn recently, just because someone at work invited me. I don't expect to get much out of it though.

I kinda think facebook blows. I have an account but I never use it. Perhaps I just haven't made the time and see what it can do or whatever.

I use myspace to keep in touch with friends and music...

facebook I use to stay in touch with my SEM (search engine marketing) friends. I think that Facebook keeps the technologically advanced cats happier than myspace does.

I hate dodgy Facebook apps. The ones where you think you check the box that blocks the app but instead it sends invites to everybody in your friends list.

Myspace definitely isn't as exciting as it used to be --- and I agree with Andy about when Fox took over it went seriously downhill...

But, Facebook just blows in general. I agree with all of the criticisms posted so far. If myspace is now generally less interesting, facebook is generally uninteresting.

I'm starting to see more and more advertising when I log into Facebook, which is really annoying.

I just remember getting emails to my gmail account... OK cool, somebody sent me something, a message,..etc..
*click* takes me right to my f**king friends list. No message, no joke, no cute flirty girl. Am I missing something here?

i'll check it during the week mostly but myspace is great for bookings.. for setting up that initial contact (alot cheaper than going thru many agencys, and quicker responses too)

.. and to keep up with old friends, + there is tonz of good new unrealeased music
.. oh yea and promoting events, it's good for that too i think. (though i'm old skool i prefer hand to hand/car street fliering.

i still use myspace cause it's great if you are a dj for ppl to find out when you have shows or releases or new mixes. facebook doesn't really appeal to me at all but the english seem to love it! i'm signed up for virb and facebook and i like the virb page for the player and layout but socially it doesn't do much for me

I've met a lot of old acquaintances through Facebook... even a few through Myspace. I don't "use" either though.. I have a hard time figuring out what to do on those sites for more than like 5 minutes.

I still use myspace, mostly to keep up with people from my past and what not. I do think a lot of people are over it though!


And yeah facebook! I have an account but it dont compare to myspace!

i started myspace a while ago, it's alright. i like it for meeting new people not for looking up old friends. i have made quite a few graff friends and luv that they post they're art on my page. it's like my own mini art gallery!
as for facebook,bleh... s**t sucks.

Well I love myspace and use it all the time. For both business and pleasure. Pleasure includes keeping up with the homies, sharing pics and comments, blogging and stalking. :p


More importantly however, is my business account, which for the past five years has been my main presence on the web. It’s pretty much a free website. I use the comment section as a community message board for event promotions and gauge my callers/fan base from the friends list and profile views counter. The bulletin board contains tons of info on upcoming events, and a great way to spread info as well. If I did not have the Myspace bulletin board, it would make my job a lot harder. I am unable to go out enough to collect the flyers that have the info I need. This way, I'm able to keep up with a multitude of different kinds of events, the promoters throwing them, and the people attending them. I like that.

Myspace just seems to have certain things I like more than facebook. But of course I have one of those too. :P

Facebook imo IS more personal than myspace, and so I like to use that for my close friends...

(at first I hated it so much, but had to get used to it, once you do, its quite simple, and fun!) (oh and you can get around the "first name, last name" biz. ha! I did!)

But, I really dig the status updates and the fact that you can see what your friends are doing all the time. Sometimes it feels invasive, but when I think about it... I like to know what my friends are doing, and they probably like to see what I’m doing too. If I don't want someone on my list to see something, I block that view from them. The privacy function is much better on Facebook than on Myspace.

I do like the blogging aspect of Myspace, that Facebook doesn't seem to provide, and I like to be able to decorate my profile with colors and stuff that you can't do on Facebook, but the stuff you can do - like the posted items and sharing links and games and fun stuff to send people is cool. I like the "poke" and "send a drink" feature. It does take the creativity out of personal messages, but in this day and age where we have 5 mins in front of a computer to talk to all your closest friends, sending a drink or slapping a high five comes in handy, shows love and is quick and easy to do.

Regarding the amount of time spent on each site... well it depends. I'm back to the 9-5, reception at that - so I have a lot of time to devote to my stalking/promoting, hahaha. When I'm not in front of my computer for 8 hours a day, I usually don't think too much about it.

Over all, yes, I like Myspace and I still use it. It's fun and interesting. People are fun and interesting! I think both those sites are awesome ways to keep in touch with others and express your self.

i have two myspace accts..one is personal that i only use for friends & fam and i only add peoples i know or musicians i REALLY like and want to keep up to date with...the second is just business and is for my makeup artistry

facebook..i just really started using mine but i've had it forever..kinda trippy when people from kindergarden are finding you hahahah...but two things with facebook
1-you get TONS of really annoying "app" invites to play stupid games or like give friends stupid gifts
2-one positive thing is you gotta pretty much know someones full name to find them...so not a bunch of random add requests like myspace...or at least thats what i've found.

yeah so i block 99% of the apps, which cuts down on those invites!

also i have turned off notification emails for app invites.

and finally i agree with both of what you say about friends and it being more personal.

what i do on facebook is only add people i know in real life or that i've collaborated with online in some way.
