Re: Why do you not VOTE.
1) Because in essence some believe 1 vote doesn't matter.
2) If you genuinely won't compromise ur principles and vote for the either/or. Like if u were a Ron Paul supporter and u refuse to vote for the lesser of 'evils' in either McCain or Obama
3) I personally don't vote on initiatives if i haven't read on them. I leave them blank.
4) Laziness, Traffic, Taking off From Work, In-Experience
just some reasons i would think |

Re: Why do you not VOTE.
we live in a free country where we can do just about anything we want. we have the right to. we also have a right to vote for the person to run our country. most counties dont have that right. they get a leader wether they like it or not. i say the least thing we can contribut to our country is VOTE. its not that hard, and if you are one of those people that think if you vote then you will get jury duty. thats not true, you can get jury duty even if you dont register to vote.

Re: Why do you not VOTE.
Yeah, but the assumption underlying voting is that we actually have a choice.
I submit to you that since the vast majority (maybe all?) of our presidents to date have been related, our government is representative of an aristocracy that has manipulated us into believing we're free when we are actually slaves.
The odds against having a succession of related leaders in this country defies the idea that this is anything but calculated.

Re: Why do you not VOTE.
ignorance is bliss.
the media is scary we are conditioned to ignore what is happening because the reality portrayed by the media is one of TERROR....
also I always vote, but I realize that in this 2 party system my choices are dumb and dumber.. non of the people I have ever voted for has even come close to winning an election so I understand why people would opt out...
the system simply does not work..
winner take al elections with less than half the people voting seems liek a far cry from anything even closely resembling democracy... every other industrialized country in the world gives you a day off just so you can vote...
but here in the land of the free you are lucky if your boss will give you 5 extra minutes to run back home to your assigned polling station to participate in the "democratic " process.
things are not black and white.
there are reasonable people that want to vote but can not for a multitude of reasons.
in california a democratic state it seems pointless to vote for any one that doesn't agree with the democrats.
again no one I have ever voted for has mad et into any public office...
so I understand people no wanting o vote.. even though I do not agree with it..
I vote even though I know my vote won't change s**t. |

Re: Why do you not VOTE.
I’ll give you more that one. The state of California is, for the most part a liberal state. Meaning, for President, the state will vote for a democrat, in staggering numbers compared to other states.
Electoral college- If McCain pulls in 2 million votes, and Obama pulls in 6 million, those extra 4 million votes go into the trash, all because of the Electoral College. Remember Bush lost to Gore in the popular vote. My vote doesn’t mean squat.
Money buys elections-There is such an emphasis on how much money is brought in for the election campaign. This means they can hire the best marketing people, and sell you on voting for them. More commercials mean more votes. It has nothing to do with qualification.
The system is broken- A voter can study up on the candidates, check their past votes in the senate, pay attention to the possibilities of who the candidate will likely put in their cabinet, and vote accordingly. But, some dip that has been brainwashed by pundits, and scared into voting by P Diddy stressing “Vote or Die” will vote one way, just because he or she seems cool. That means all that studying was for nothing, that voters vote has been cancelled out by some dip.
There are plenty more. Most importantly voters have no idea how politics work. Nor could they, it is such a complicated process that it would enlist a full time job just to comprehend everything. |

Re: Why do you not VOTE.
Fair enough, but is that really a choice?
Nobody's ever won by write-in, no huge corporate lobbies pay for write-in candidate campaigns, no major parties support write-in candidates.
The illusion of choice is that we are presented a giant douche and a turd sandwich, and all other candidates are downplayed. I mean... Ron Paul got the shaft from all media networks even as a major party candidate - they refused to give him even half of the air time they gave to douchebags like Giuliani, all based on Paul's rejection of the official "Republican" agenda.
Political parties have even removed the choice of candidates from the people by introducing superdelegates. Now parties have full control over the way party candidates are chosen, which is unconstitutional - this is not government of, by, and for the people.
So you're right... but just on a technicality, because corporate funding (i.e. lobbying) and/or support of major political players (i.e. Bush family for McCain, Zbiegniew Brzezinski for Obama) with their own agendas is really how candidates are made valid. Would you agree or disagree?

Re: Why do you not VOTE.
The true question of this post should be why do you not vote on local or state elections. These are the candidates that truly shape our country. George Bush could not take us to war on his own. He has to get approval on practically everything he does. This is what that whole checks and balances is all about.
Because of local politicians, some areas allow medical marijuana dispensaries, and some don’t. There are tons of other types of these initiatives that are important, but with the wrong or right politician in office, these things that matter to you can come to light, or get swept under the run. |

really though I voted against arnold.. and I vote every single time there is anything out there to vote on.. sometimes(rarely) like with prop 215 does anything I vote for actually go into effect. plus the lack of information about who's who and what is what makes for a very uniformed electorate.
the sad part as that joe sixpack could give a s**t about voting and would be happy to send their offspring out t save democracy in Iraq without giving it a second thought.. everything from the media to the school system is designed to separate us from our ability to make informed and rational decisions. |

So true. But why do people not care. I think its because whole process is so complicated. There is a reason why Washington DC has the most lawyers out of any where in the country.
How are people suppose to understand politics when schools really don't address that subject. This is where voting for members of your local school board come into play. |

Re: Why do you not VOTE.
Well, he didn't get Congressional approval for the war. He just went.
For the record, Executive Orders and Signing Statements BYPASS CHECKS AND BALANCES.
This administration has been carrying out GROSSLY unconstitutional activity for years.
Re: Medical Marijuana.
State law allows it. Federal law doesn't, although it's unconstitutional for them to rule on it. And the law enforcement of this state cooperates with the federal government to disregard state law. That's what happens every time there's a raid.
