Why
Do we deny that we the community are entering (are) in a recession. I see people having a hard time not only keeping up with everyday living and extras are becoming that extras. (drop in attendance at your favorite spots) How does the Junglist community feel about this. I see blue collar gone already.

Re: Why
working harder will not get you farther. you still make the same amount of money, and the value of the dollar is dropping...
right now its safe to say if you dont have your money in anything besides low risk or commodities, your screwed.
gas is going up, rent everywhere is going up because people can not afford to buy homes.. how is working harder going to solve that problem.... us as Americans were greedy and blind to the problems that were caused in the last 4 -6 years. i saw it all happen before my eyes.. people pulling out 120% loans on their homes with high hopes that property values would continue to rise. now 75% of Americans are faced with loan balances that are anywhere from 100-150% of what their property is actually worth... the only logical solution is to walk away from it for most people, and the ripple effect on the economy begins...
society as a whole created this mess..and there isn't anything or any amount of help/money the feds can give to fix it. and i hate to say it, but looking at all the charts and predictions, its only going to get worse until the end of next year..

Re: Why
I personally know people who bust their ass 150% everyday and they are still loosing their homes. Hard work will guide you on the rigth direction but the way we as a populus spend money (keeping up the jones). Will just help us dig a deeper hole and the affects will be felt by anyone making under 150,00 a year which most on JS are under. Homes being foreclosed is the begining. And that 401 k most have at work will be cut in half at the rate the economy is going money under the matress just took on a new meaning. |

Re: Why
working harder did the trick during the great depression....
oh wait no it didn't.
the new deal did the trick... but we can thank our republican administrations and (former) congress for undoing just about all the good stuff from the new deal.
yay.

Re: Why
this isnt highschool anymore... working harder will get you better grades, but it will not make you enough money to put you into a better financial state. your spending, your habits, and your ideals keep you where you are...
honestly, your a product of your surroundings... look at your 5 closest friends, and you will see your self...if your 5 closest are going out every night, drinking, drugs, partying, then thers a good chance you are doing the same, or you wouldnt be that close with them.
as Nas says, "im a surround my self with rich n* until 6 n* carry me" |

Re: Why
maybe people need to think beyond working mere 8 hour jobs. lately i've been working 10+ hour days and on top of that im starting another job today.
i've got to pay the bills somehow and sitting around bitching about them isn't gonna fix a damn thing |

Re: Why
thats great, until you hit that point of diminishing returns...
how hard do you want to work, for money that you cant spend because a) you dont have time too becuase your working so hard for it, or b) because its not worth what it was worth 2 weeks ago...
you have to work x% harder every day, because every day the dollar loses x% of value...

Re: Why
It is not termed a "recession" yet because by the mere definition it hasn't happened (at least i don't think). Also a lot of day traders and "speculators" in the oil markets are driven by consumer attitudes, thus if u say "yep a recession is coming up", it scares the population and changes their buying habits. Obviously it is a slow growth coupled with inflation and a housing market in crisis which is really bad. |

i believe our economy has to not grow for 3 quarters for it to be an official recession. we're getting there. |

Re: Why
The economy has been masked with interest rate cuts. The last thing in a recession to happen is usually the crash of the housing market. How is it possible to have people loosing their jobs and homes if we still have not entered a recession. Things just dont add up. |

Re: Why
RECESSION
An extended decline in general business activity, typically two consecutive quarters of falling real gross national product.
----------------------------
Now it may be slow growth but measuring the GNP is different. |
