High Gas Prices a Blessing in Disguise???
I mean no one wants to pay high prices for gas, but in a sense maybe now we will get our act together about other sources of energy. I read today that FORD sales are down 28% because their F-150 Truck and SUVs are not selling as much as last year. I think car (American) companies were so in love with the short term benefits of selling huge cars and now they are ass behind other car makers who were working on fuel efficient cars. Sometimes it takes to be behind the 8-ball to really get asses in gear...no pun intended. |

I don't understand why emissions-free cars are even presented as an issue that needs research. Tesla had that figured out AGES ago. |

Join the 1,241,026+ people who have signed the petition to lower prices by drilling domestically:
http://www.americansolutions.com
I'm all for environmental friendly vehicles but I just can't afford one at the moment so in the meantime I'd rather gas prices drop so I can go back to drinking Grey Goose rather than Kamchatka. Know what I'm saying??

Re: High Gas Prices a Blessing in Disguise???
^^hate to tell ya, but drilling is not lowering gas prices any time soon nor ever. 1st up oil is finite, u can not "drill ur way to freedom from (in our President's words) 'our addiction to oil'". How can we be addcited to oil and the solution to be 'drill for more oil'. It is a 1 +1 = 4 equation. Also just to build and prospect and drill and refine oil is so damn expensive that of the millions and millions of acres of land here in america that oil companies own via our government they (oil co.) have not built a new refinery in like 50 years. Why, because it cost more to build/prospect/get/refine the oil then they could make from it. They are a business with one goal (to make $$$, which I DO NO KNOCK) at the end of the day.
I am no tree hugger by any stretch of the imagination but oil is the tangible god (little 'g') on earth (meaning that our world is dominated and run by it). With India and China's populations swelling and surpassing ours easily we (USA) need to pivot cause we will not compete with them to buy that form of energy in the near future. Gas prices (even with more gas in the market) are never coming down. Even with more gas found companies can 'hold out' and pretty much set the prices because there is no regulation and again in the end of the day oil is a FINITE product that will end one day...

Re: High Gas Prices a Blessing in Disguise???
A million people may have signed that petition (527 started by Newt Gingirch), but McCain's stance is even in contrast to what his supporters (whom i assume primarily signed that) is. He is leaving it up to the states to decide not making a national policy. Floridians will not vote for that off of their shores in the Atlantic or The Gulf (it is a death sentence politically, even hard Repubs never do so), Texans probably will allow it in the Gulf, be interesting to see about other Gulf boardering states, South Carolina won't (even Lindsey Grahm [Senator from SC] who is McCain's biggest supporter voted hard against it like a couple of years ago) and u must be smoking the stuff if u think Californians, Oregonians or Washingtonites will vote for this off of their beaches.
So the petition is fine and dandy, but me signing it is in effect opposing both McCain and Obama's position on this. Plus think if McCain wins and it becomes a states choice you start getting into trade isolation deals between states. So say Texas charges CA higher then Iowans or will states get mad at CA if we don't drill but because of our population we suck most of the oil up. Just opens up a can of problems. If u are going to drill then i say just make it s a federal issue and supercede the states rights. |

Re: High Gas Prices a Blessing in Disguise???
We have 3x the oil reserves as Saudi Arabia but can't drill it because of government sanctions.
Meanwhile, Brazil's economy explodes from drilling in the Atlantic but congress won't allow us to drill off shore.
Technology with drilling nowadays is so advanced there is very little chance of oil spill. I think people will be so impressed by the technology the oil companies has and depressed by the price of gasoline, the votings would be a landslide.
Newt Gingrich video was a good watch.

Re: High Gas Prices a Blessing in Disguise???
The more we pay for gas, the faster we will reach an alternative. I cant wait for the days of $20 a gallon. People will s**t themselves.
Then all those alternate fuel patents that the oil industry and automobile industry have held for over 50 years might actually see the light of day.
Shame it takes so long to create a change. |

Re: High Gas Prices a Blessing in Disguise???
The prices may go up, but the profits don't change. Dont forget the supreme courts recent ruling on the exxon valez spill, s**t one of the justices had to exclude himself from voting because he owns stock in the damn company. Government is in bed with big oil and that requires a change from within. We can speak with our wallets, but at the same time, until the demand is eliminated, we have no influence. All it will take is a tax credit or a rebate check to make alot of apathetic people forget about this whole thing. It takes a change in fundamental thought and hopefully people are going to be motivated by prices. |

"We have 3x the oil reserves as Saudi Arabia but can't drill it because of government sanctions."
-----------------
That is the line that oil execs will say, but what is funny is that they already own millions of acres of land that they can explore which they haven't. It is called speculation and they are guesstimating where the oil is (it is a tough business). Also again OIL is finite...u can't not break ur addiction to oil by drilling for more oil. Also BRAZIL is a country without states rights, the USA is not (unless the gov. issues imminent domain, but try that in Oregon or CA or FL and watch it fail).
It just sucks cause we have been sitting on our hands for all this time |

Re: High Gas Prices a Blessing in Disguise???
yeah, recreating a completely new energy/feuling infrastructure will take decades. in iceland they are testing out hydrogen feuling stations and vehicles for public transit and it says that even in a country of their small size it would take years to fully switch over. imagine how long it would/will take for us? as stubborn as we are? by the time the switch is made some crazy new technology will have been invented and the alternative energy sources we're just thinking of changing to now will be obsolete. crazy times ahead....crazy times indeed.

Re: High Gas Prices a Blessing in Disguise???
At a local level does it not piss you off that there was an existing ligth rail system in Los Angeles. GM and FORD pushed for the development of an bast network of freeways and the Red Cars desapeared. For those familiar with the Beltmont tunes one of the stations. Now we are forking out a fortune to replace this rail system. All of this was influenced by oil and automotive producers. So yes this is defenetly a blessing maybee we will not only look at alternatives but also get more involved in our local goverments. |

Re: High Gas Prices a Blessing in Disguise???
hehe you guys should check the prices in Eu for gas .its double from the US or 1.6 Eur for a Liter of gas or about 9,5 - 10 dollars for a galon (if i calculate right : 4 l = 1 gallon)
the prices in the US are so cheap, because of the governmental subsidies that are payed trying to keep the prices low.
energy efficiency (from transportation, industry and buildings) and the use of renewable energies can solve your problem solar energy is abundant here and is under-used
as for the cars, i suppose there is a LPG gas systems you guys can install in your cars ... LPG is half the price from the gas , and if burned right, its co2 emissions are hillariously low and its safe allright
my major back in eu is renewable energy and resources yeah eeezzzz |
