Does anyone actually buy tunes they sweat here?

just wondering .. everybody might be up on some random tune .. but once it hits release do people actually spend $$ on buying an A-lister's b-side?

Re: Does anyone actually buy tunes they sweat here?

to me it all depends on the release date. it's like having sloppy seconds. i wouldn't want to buy a tune thats been rinsed so hard for the previous 3-6 months that by the time it comes out it has no effect on the crowd i would prefer to spend my money on a tune that is released quicker while it's still hot. i mean the point of selling records is so DJ's can play them. 12''s are obviously not meant for the car nor the home entertainment center so it would make more sense to release dubs quicker while they are still attractive to the DJ's. like take your guys track NEO that tune was being caned by every big dj at WMC in February. A summer release would have been appropriate imo, but its only now just been released for retail sale. At the record store i work at Hip Hop(not just commercial underground too) FLYS off the shelf cause the s**t is hot and its being rinsed by the lil bedroom dj's to the big dj's. the dnb 12''s on the other hand dont sell as quickly because its tired and played out by the time it reaches the bins and as consequence it has a very short shelf life. people want to blame mp3 downloading in dnb but i just don't see it happening with hip hop vinyl sales only with dnb. i think dubplates create a vacuum(plenty of demand but NO supply) and this vacuum is filled by p2p sharing. just my personal view on the whole thing

oh i also wonder if t would be a good thing for labels to consider releasing cd maxi singles or ep's rather than just two tunes??? there are alot of non djs out there who i think would like to buy something portable and convenient than a cumbersome 12'' the dillinja and lemon d CD with a DVD is a perfect example of entering new(to dnb) markets of listeners rather than only supplying dj's.

Re: Does anyone actually buy tunes they sweat here?

I picked up the Neo,only becuase I still like for my personal collection. But I have to agree.Producers should hold on to their s**t instead of sending it to every dj and their mom.

Re: Does anyone actually buy tunes they sweat here?

i think so too...these records arent s**t once its been played out by all the headliners for 2 months! I like FRESH beats in my crate...so hard to find nowdays....and i hardly ever pay attention to this column...i buy what sounds good to me when its released..

and i bought neo for the same reason...its going on my shelf...not my crate.

Re: Does anyone actually buy tunes they sweat here?

Well, this is how I think it'll get better. I try and keep the dubplate bizness to a minimum. Rinsin a bunch on mix cd's is cool, but as far as playin out, if its local i'll keep it mostly full release, and I rarely play dubs by people other than those in my own crew. As far as giving out my own tunes, I'm very selective, and so are my label mates. People jock our tunes, but not many people have them. We have tunes from three years ago that will still sell once we get the f**kin money to start distribution. thats my 2 cents.

No, I meant rinsin dubplates on your mixed cd's, not rinsin cdr's. I think CDR is ruining everything, I use it though, go figure.

Re: Does anyone actually buy tunes they sweat here?

if i had the money, tables and i gave a s**t about playing out i would. but there are many many djs out that have that covered. play what you like....who cares....oh wait...other djs do....who make up 99% of the crowds....aha.

Re: Does anyone actually buy tunes they sweat here?

If I truly feel a tune and somehow get it without a pretty label.
when I have money I will buy the released version to support the artist.

Re: Does anyone actually buy tunes they sweat here?

don't really sweat too many dubs. its like being a child and wanting that big red fire truck for christmas and seeing the commercial for it in january, knowing you wont get your own till the end of december.

however, regardless i will still buy the release if i like the tune. i finally picked up barcelona and the remixes a week or two ago. f**k if i know how long its been out. i remember seeing posts about it being on dub forever ago. i dig the tune and im glad to add it to the archive, regardless of whether or not im going to play it out at the current time.

Re: Does anyone actually buy tunes they sweat here?

I don't care much for dubs unless I was a producer testing the crowd reaction to a new tune i was gonna release...

I'll play a rekkid if its burnt, oldschool, newschool, whatever, its music to me and it does not have to be un-played stuff either...

I seriously wish that D&B vinyl culture was more like hip-hop.... You can still drop an oldschool run dmc track and its cool... If you did that in D&B your considerd not cool cause you have old rekkids...

Re: Does anyone actually buy tunes they sweat here?

i think it depends on the track. i know when im in the crowd dancing certain things about certain tracks set the crowd off, and its usually tracks that I like. so I spin what I would want to hear if i were out there on the floor.

Re: Does anyone actually buy tunes they sweat here?
