Dillinja (what happened)

damn, i used to love his productions. the stuff he did under Capone was dope too.... but damn, this tune "s**t bag" or "S bag" is horible! if you haven't heard it, judge for yourself.

Dillinja - don't hate on a champ

SBag roolz just like all the other Dillinja tunes. Go to a show where D&B and dancin' is the move and drop it, you'll see. His tunes are for dancin and brockin' to - not for chin strokin' and over-analyzation.

Now - get to dancin'!

Re: Dillinja (what happened)

i just think its funny that people say "i hate clownstep... i hate wobble....too much clownstep.... yada yada yada", then i get to the clubs and when it gets played the dancefloor is going crazy. im sure some of the people saying that are dancing as well, or else you wouldnt be at that club seeing whatever dj you knew you were going to see that night. then when someone calls dark dnb "kill your mom drum and bass", some people get all offended. its all drum and bass and i love it all. sure there are crap tunes and of course there are many great tunes but it really all comes down to your own personal preference of what you like. there are reasons why tunes like s**tbag get played a lot, it may not be for everyone but when you see a whole dancefloor going off you know the tune has something. this isnt directed at anyone, this is just my observation from being out in the clubs.

end rant.... i dont even know where that came from, im dead tired today haha

not feelin' s-bag at all (i really dislike it). that is just me. i think dilinja is a great producer, with tons of amazing tunes under his belt - however, this one just wasn't for me... but, it does make the dancefloor jump.

some wobble/clown is really good, some of it sucks ---- same as every sub-genre of dnb. good news, there's room for all of us!

yeah... i dunno. I still think dillinja is one of the most influential people in dnb today. his tunes are what everyone trys to imitate as far as mixdown and clarity on a club setup... his albums are very good for the most part, he is as og as you get.. um lets see... what else, he has a really cool f**k you if you dont like me attitude...

i dig him almost always. sbag not so much. i think it sounds like my worst nightmares pitched and sped up until around 4 min in i want my head to explode.

anyone remember fast car?? i mean he knows exactly what will sell and he markets on it. he makes money of music and feeds his family off dnb.

so... my point after all this rambling is... dont hate. congradulate son!!

Re: Dillinja (what happened)

i could see that, but i don't think S Bag is evolutionary. in fact i think dillinja has probably evolved less than any other producer around nowadays. he is a brilliant engineer but his tunes are piss poor IMO in terms of quality music.

good engineering =/= good music

also, we know where the music came from: RAVE HARDCORE

and when we "returned to our roots", a lot of that hardcore revival stuff was equally piss poor. whatever you may think of dylan or total science now, all their (respective) tunes had the exact same basslines.

yes it's all drum and bass, but saying that generic cookie cutter dancefloor anthem bizness is the same thing as, for instance, paradox, is like saying velvet revolver and pink floyd are the same.

Re: Dillinja (what happened)

Herbal influenced statements. I do despise Haters of big name's in the Junglescene. If it were'nt for the exploration that these Big Names' partake in, Drum and Bass would'nt be where it is today.

Ever changing, evolution, progressiveness, it's all a good thing. No need to hate on a great artist for one bad piece of work.

although, I do hate that chatterbox track on Aphrodites' Overdrive. We need some more Original MC's out there though, that's for sure. Understandable, clear, no racing to be the fastest Dr. Seuss rhymer's out there. The DJ's are what we come out to see.

Re: Dillinja (what happened)

i disagree on the basis that when you go out to a club here, the vibe is different from anywhere else in the world. here in the states, and in california, we expect MCs to be amazing, because we're snobs. the best hip hop in the world has come out of the united states, and so we hold the MC to a higher standard here than anywhere.

however, the purpose of the MC in most other dnb scenes in the world is to be a hype man. perhaps the point of this is being further lost as the drum and bass scene in america becomes more and more of a club thing instead of a rave / party thing.

as much as i have tended to dislike MCs in the past, they are an undeniable part of the scene. i agree with you that all that yabba-dabba-doo bulls**t is old and needs to go away. that is not craft, that is gibberish and the egotistical blasphemy of craft. but don't hate on MCs... they bring people into the scene that perhaps would otherwise not be involved, and the bigger the scene becomes due to the magnetism of this music and everyone who takes part in creating it, either live or in studio, the better.

Re: Dillinja (what happened)

i'm with trench.

this one is pure garbage. The background noise is actually a single key preset from Absynth, meaning he held a button down and it took all of 1 second to create. this is not an evolution of anything, it's de-evolution. it's sad to see someone who helped spark drum n bass writing a tune that sounds like it came from a 13 year old on a casio. I always measured my production values against the early German stuff, not the early UK stuff. I dunno, at least my drums are harder so I guess I have room to talk.
