If the beat is phat, and you feel it. Play it. Don't get caught up TRYING to be original. Come with your style. The crowd will apreciate it, and use that energy and passion you feel to make the best music you can, not to hate fellow junglists that just like the sound and play it. |

"i can have a set full of dark nasty FRESH plates....."
Having a set of nasty plates won't help at all when you are spinning in your bedroom. You still have to get out to big clubs and perform to large crowds to get your name out there. |

Re: any one else like me?
i think it all depends on why you buy records many my friends and I in sd have this discussion all the time and we came to the conclusion that we are collectors somtimes we buy a track that we know we will never play out but the track strikes a chord some how. so i say buy what you want because you want it in your collection . |

Re: any one else like me?
i think what he's saying is that the lower-level dj who maybe hasn't spun out and has that as a personal goal of his, has much better chances by spinning different s**t. not just to be different or original, but when you think about it, as some point, technical skill becomes much less of a crowd-drawing attribute at the higher levels where tracks and reputation, often based on production (tracks), go even further. So if you're playing the same thing as the guy's who's already proven and "ahead of you" at a lower level, no one really has any reason to give you a chance because you offer nothing someone already there has. How do you progress if you're moving at the same speed as those starting the race (as an analogy) before you?
Play what you want, yes, and there are a lot of NASTY plates out there that won't ever show up on RedEye and still keep the floor rocking with a new (to the masses) sound. Lots of peeps coming up right now, just gotta keep yer nose to the floor.
ive shifted away from a focus of spinning out myself. Production has me absolutely grabbed by the nuts. Feels nice! =)

Re: any one else like me?
i hear ya... i am always searching for tunes (going through all the white labels and no names) looking for some good s**t that isn't heard all over the place... and try to balance that with some stuff that people know, cause that will get them on the floor and movin... but keep it fresh...
i feel ya all the way... i would like to play all unknown sheezy, but i think the crowd feels it a little more when you mix it up.. |
