Re: DRUMZ---
I just borrowed a 202, there not that bad, some of the kits have some kick, not too bad action either. I use reason, but the drums suck. those patern based drum machines dont seem to have any live feel, no syncopation. |

Re: DRUMZ---
well, that all depends on how you're using it..i for one am very detail oriented as to how the Velocity and Gate times are used in my loops but i mainly use the redrum and reason in general in sequence mode that way im not limited to patterns and actually program songs and not just patterns....

Re: DRUMZ---
Do you mean Extrapolate?
Sure Doc...First off, i am a drummer as well, it was the first instrument i ever learned how to play 14 years ago. The reason I mention this is because when i began producing this music i would record my drums in realtime and just quantize. But that just made it harsh sometimes so now it's just straight step-recording my beats on the grids.
Now as for Reason the way you do this is:
Right click on the sequencer and create a new sequencer track and w/ the little drop down menu you can select the redrum or the dr.rex depending on what you preffer. Under edit mode not arrange mode yet,
make sure show velocity lane show pattern lane and show drum lane buttons are pressed.
program a beat---I am not going to waste my time showing you this because im assuming you already know how.
lower the velocity on the last and middle kicks and snare fills and you can give your loops that "natural" triplet feel.
evryone has their own techniques...for doing this yet some formulas sound similar to keep the traks mixable e.g. (old Tech-itch v.s Dom & Roland, dark Teebee vs. old Photek...Dillinja v.s Danny Breaks etc..)
hope this helped a little... |

Re: DRUMZ---
Ive done something to that sort by setting the first kick a little heavier than the second. what is the gate time? what does that do? |

Re: DRUMZ---
I use anything in anyway. My main sequencer is the MPC which is perfect for percusion but will do just as good on breakz. I used the internal MPC sampler ( S2000 ) but it lacks on impact sub. Low frequencies don't do well on it, so I got th ESI2000 which takes care of that, but I also have a 505 and a 606 ( which I needs mod. ) and a novation drumstation. So sometimes sampling and sometimes no samples. |

Re: DRUMZ---
Velocity= how hard or how soft you want the note to play.
Gate = how Long or Short you extend the note...Use the drawtool and drag out a note..you'll see.
start experimenting, you won't master this right away but once you get the hang of it you'll be hooked.
it's all in the edit mode and also once you've finshed one section that's when you begin copying and pasting and start actually "breaking" the beat...
little off topic but..
that's the thing i kinda got sad that there was so much left undone w/ breakbeats and the style just turned to "rollers"...don't get me wrong I'm down w/ the style it's fun to make and dance to. but It was Tracks like Ed-rush and Nico's "Technology" and any of the old Reinforced s**t like paradoxe's "snake style" that seduced me to making this music.
That's pretty much also the only thing I loved about ragga-jungle too was the complex drum programming, you could tell these cats put a lot of time effort into slicing up their beats.
now it's more focus on the bass than the drums and when we bust out a shattered beat the dancefloor just dissipates. but i'm seeing more broken styles flourish like that trak murder inc. form dj ink and panacea is going back to his roots as well, so i see a little shadow creeping in...but don't mind me i'm just rambling my thoughts. |

Re: DRUMZ---
yes!!! i think i need some help on how to lay down drum patterns!!
I use an xp30 and record drums in real time with arpeggios into my master trax sequencer...Somethin tells me this is not the way most of you do it because alot of the rolls/patterns i hear in jungle is almost impossible to hit this way... Help a lost jungle brotha out somebody... What type of software hardware should I really be using?? Or am I just not skilled enuff in layin down arpeggio drum patterns?

Re: DRUMZ---
arpeggio drumz!!! i remember doing that s**t wth the Mc.505.
it sounded harsh as f**k but different.
xp30 sounds fat if you add the built in compression to the drumz specially the session card drumz....Tech itch uses rolands drum sounds but the way he does it is resampling into his akai.
one tip if you want to stop using arpeggio is to learn how to step record...this is the math of drum and bass.. |

Re: DRUMZ---
I hear you malfunktion,
I'm always intriuged and tossed around by the new funk basslines that keep "rollin" through a lot of dnb trax, but what brought me in was the intense drum programming of squarepusher, dillinja, raw, etc.. Those guys were what originally got my mind thinking that way and I've been producing ever since lol.
BTW, to answer your original ?, I have mainly dled samples off the net, around 20,000+ or so of all types of sounds, mostly drums! There are all kinds of drums in these samples, it's just my ever growing mass collection of samples from the net.
I have used wave generators to create sounds I use as a percussive instraments I guess I get my samples in many ways, but primarily from the net

Re: DRUMZ---
Malfunktion werd... tnx for the info ... but my problem is....I dont have the option to step record on my sequencer...I know there are many many many different setups and options to make this possible...What proggies should i be using for this or is it hardware??? I know its possible with the yamaha remix/akai mpc2000xL, but I was just hoping there was some kind of sequencing software that i could hook up my xp30 to step record... Does cubase or logic audio support this? Or do I have to go with somethin like reason/rebirth? What do you use??? I know there are so many ways to do this. And just thinkin about all my options makes my head hurt... Please help a confused brotha out lol...
Annias what type of program are you using for downloadin these drum samples?? And how do you incorporate these to your trax? What proggie are you using.....?
Sorry fellas, Im kinda new to producin jungle and am currently in the experimentation mode...

Re: DRUMZ---
Well,
Most of the time I'm downloading off of http sites not ftp, so handy dandy download accellerator takes care of the DL's of all the .zip, .wav, and .mp3's that I've collected.
I use Fruity Loops 3.0 full to alter the silence, sometimes Sound Forge 5 helps with this process.

Re: DRUMZ---
infektious,
cubase and logic both have what you need. it's not exactly step sequencing, but it has a screen that's basically the same thing. if you have outboard gear (xp30) then you should go with cubase or logic. reason is more for peeps without outboard gear. good luck!

I love my S6000. Two gig hard drive that's networked with my PC through a usb card. So loading samples is drag & drop. Plus, it has sixteen outs for all your EQing and compressing. |

Machinedrum! Fun as f**k to play. No good for d&b though, but still make some cool beats with it! Great for a spaced out trip hop vibe. |
