close to buying a synth... need help
I'm looking at Korgs atm... but really i'd buy anything that did what I needed.
Can anybody recommend SPECS that i should look for? i guess my price range is about 1200-1500.
Currently scouring ebay to get an idea of what's out there.
I know ultimately i'll just have to walk my ass to guitar center for a play day, to f**k around with all the different synths and get a feel for what I like - just need to know what specs define quality... i don't want a s**tty piece of equipment.
any help appreciated. thank you. |

Re: close to buying a synth... need help
if you want a synth that has drum sounds / synth sounds / live instrument sample type sounds etc... then korg trinity type synths is the way to go..
personally i hate those.. so im not the person to ask for those.. haha..
but..
you can get somefin like a JP8000 for 800 bux (from dj rap) and then get a sampler or some kind of drum modual or even a small rack mount synth like a NORD MODULAR or even a used Virus! |

korg or get an mpc with a sound module. fantom are cool. just make sure you have a cool sequncer in the synth with a lot of sounds. the korg samples so thats dope. yo finish up thogh you need a computer i like digital performer with reason the synth and a mpc . just start putting the pieces together until you have a killer workstation |

Re: close to buying a synth... need help
the virus c is my first reaction to your price range...it seems like a lot of people have them but that's because it's good. also novation is putting out some good gear lately, the k-station might fit your bill although it is limited in voices and timbres next to the C. Have you considered software? |

Re: close to buying a synth... need help
I’ve fallen in love with the Virus, but saw the Novation - K-Station at Sam Ash for something like $$600-700.
However... The K-station didn’t blow my mind. It sounded VERY similar to my MS2000, which I might add I use for nothing more than a MIDI controller.
"Synth" wise... I think Slappy hit it on the nose with the korg trinity. If it’s more of an analog modeling devise you’re looking for, Id for sure go with either with a Nord or a Virus. (HANDS DOWN!!)
All these I might add can easily be budgeted into your price range. |

Re: close to buying a synth... need help
if you are looking for a synth with drums sounds as well, check out the novation ks4. do you plan on sequencing on the synth, or with software? if software, then why pay more money for a board with a sequencer that you won't use? i suggest spending some time at guitar center and figuring out which sounds you like best.. btw, which guitar center do you go to? i work at the san marcos location, so if you are near there, i'd be happy to spend time with you going over the prosand cons of some gear.
peace!
