Re: Modulars
modulars are ill. But for me, they're more of a separate hobby than something I would actually use in a song. As soon as I have an extra $6000 lying around I'll probably build myself a big MOTM rack...that's the s**t. If you're interested in modular synthesis, check out some software like Reaktor by Native Instruments. This softsynth is so flexible that you can download virtual SH101s, Juno6s, Wavestations, etc. etc, all built on the Reaktor system. It's dope.

Re: Modulars
MOTM's are sick as f**k i heat that big ass wall vacuum synth at NAMM last year and it blew me away. I spent hours trying diffrent modulation routes and patches.
I was lucky that guy let me play with it.
have you checked out any of the Doepfer stuff that s**t is f**king illll
they had a synth that had 32 voice osclillators I can't imagine the bass i could make with something like that...
bass quakes straight out.. i would need a sytem that outputs 10hz lows. hehehe |

Re: Modulars
damn I believe 32 oscillators is known as "brain damage setting". hey what's the differences between the doepfer modulars and the MOTM stuff? Price, capabilities, etc? |

Re: Modulars
most MOTM's gear is Vacuum tube Synthesis wich heats up like a mofo thus requiring an internall cooling system and detunes very often.
Doepfer are just staight Asic modulars so they detune but they don't heat up but you can do endless stacking and routing.

Re: Modulars
I just got an A100. I'll let you know what I think. My boss has a 35 panel serge. That thing kicks some serious ass. He's been collecting it over the years, so some of it is new and some is old. There's a guy selling a bunch of serge modules on ebay right now. If you want the dopest modular stuff around, go serge. Serge is a spin off from Buchla years ago. Their stuff is absolutely top notch, but you sefinitely pay for it. |

Re: Modulars
hehe.. MOTM i havent heard mention of that for a f**kin while...
nord modular does a great job of modular synth and is very affordable...
and you dont have to worry about breaking / broken patch cables

Re: Modulars
yes i know you were refereing to analog ones...
i have worked on many of them...
but for cost / accessability / functions is concerned the nord is the best for the money.. |

Re: Modulars
actually if i had the money for a nord modular I would rather get a korg ms20....real analog and space effective...
I could give a f**k about replacing a 50 cent patch cable. |

ahaha
that's great...
Korg pieces that I'm going to get eventually-
Ms-10-Ms-20-classics
Z-1--for those who know
miniKorg--for vocoding purposes
Wavestation AD or EX---The Last(hardware) wavetable vectorsynth.. this is what Waldorf wishes they could make... |

Re: Modulars
I have a minikorg k2. Also known as the 700s. You can make some s**t with it if you want. Its actually one of the originals, with the univox plate on it, although i took that off. It was made by korg, but they were called keio electronics back then, and they were distributed by univox. Kinda like an OEM deal. |

i don't know much about modulars, but i want to change that... a friend of mine has a wiard modular and it's craaaaazy!
i don't really like much korg product, but i would really like to have a ms-20, it's on my wish list. those are sick. i also wouldn't mind having a wavestation for pads. |

Re: Modulars
some of the better modular synth makers are:
technosaurus (www.technosaurus.ch)
serge (unofficial site: http://www.scampers.com/EGRES/index.htm)
analoguesolutions.com (lots of different analog modular synths)
analogue systems (http://www.analoguesystems.co.uk/index3.htm)
the serge and technosaurus are my two faves, though there are some cool new modulars coming out on the analoguesolutions site... |
