Re: wireless midi
sounds dope! I think I'd have to get one of those 80's synths with a guitar strap and bring that s**t back

Re: wireless midi
we (midiman) are releasing this technology by the end of summer along with a bunch of other dope gear.
but just imagine being able to make basslines walking around anywhere no cables attached. |

Re: wireless midi
you work for midiman, huh? what do you do over there? i have some thoughts and designs on some hardware would like to speak to someone about but i'm scared of going to roland/akai/emu etc etc cuz they'll just rip me off like the big 'ol corporate bastids they are..
wireless midi sounds kinda dope.. i had an idea for something similar using The Shared Wireless Access Protocol, which is based on cordless phone technology, provides 800K to 1.6M bit/sec with a range of about 150 feet. fast enuff for midi and with a decent range...

Re: wireless midi
wireless midi is the next evolution, in music and production.
it seems to me to be the next logical step in music and production |

Re: wireless midi
midi = rs232 serial@9600 baud
ther are LOTS of rs232->rf trancievers available... so one could do it themselves... I think trancievers are in the 50-100$ range so it could get expensive quick...
also... there are midi->rf tranciever adapters for Intellibeam lighting controller and probablly alot of other atage lighting systems... most of that stuff is controlled via midi as well and this allows them to do controll without a long ass heavy and expensive snake...
that's cool hta m-audio is gonna do a consumer version... what does the tranciever look like? how bulky and how costly? is there any error chacking or redundancy built in or is it just a straight data bridge? |

Re: wireless midi
lol - how'd I guess? i was just going to say, "use bluetooth" - then I read a little further down - and you are! haha... Now, what you should do is make Audio I/O - from say, an FX Module, or EQ... whatever... but make that wireless as well, so they can all communicate on the same protocol - sorta like a WiFi Blue Tooth style
The advantage of this, would be the amount of wires involved. This would call for a clean setup w/o the hassle of wires. If you guys ever tapped into it this far, you could also program a control panel. The control panel could be either controled by a standalone software or via HTTP. (sort of like a router) - by having this, you can control what piece of hardware is communicating with what (like a router). Also, a thing to think about with this, is that since you can control what goes where... say you have your Synth, you have your processors and EQs and what not... or hell, even ANOTHER COMPUTER - what you could do in the control panel is mix the signals instead of having wires daisy chain each other... or having to run samples through each, at seperate times (to those who are limited in certain hardware pieces) then you can easily control it via your Bluetooth technology control panel haha... I'm full of ideas, I looked into bluetooth for other concepts (involving cars and computer networks) - if you'd like to tap more into my brain, just get a hold of me... royalty? jk
All-in-all, Bluetooth is the SHIT! Cars are coming out with some BT technology mainly for phones and security methods. But imagine being a passanger in a car equiped w/ BT... you have a wireless PalmOS BT Software haha - and can use the synth in the car... over the speakers - rawkin out haha... I know thats just over the top, but thats the kind of stuff you can do with BT... You'll be hearing TONs of hype about Bluetooth in the next year or so - its just going to blow the fizzuck up! WIRELESS STYLE! haha... Wireless Studio!
*shrugs* okay i'll shut up, i prob. sound re-taw-ded...
